Deep in our souls we all want our lives to count—but do you know why? Because God made you. He crafted you with purpose. Inside your DNA is not just the code for your hair color, height, athletic ability, intelligence, or any other such things. Those are just the things that we can see and measure. No, in your very makeup are the seeds of greatness that God intended for you to cultivate and grow to bring his light into this dark world.

    PREFACE

No book was ever written by accident, so why do you hold this book in your hands? Because I wanted to give you something that I never had. I want to give you a road map—a road map to your destiny.

God made you. He crafted you with purpose. Inside you, inside your DNA, are not just the codings of hair color, height, athletic ability, intelligence, or any other such things. Those are just the things we can see and measure. No, in your very makeup are the seeds of greatness that God intended for you to cultivate and grow to bring His light into this dark world, but look around you. Do you see much light? Do you see much greatness? Do you look at many people and say, Wow! They were made for that? Unless you live on a different planet than I do, the answer is no. Most people never become more than casual livers of life, observers of the ordinary, and experiencers of the usual, but is that what God intended?

This book is a recipe for rebellion against the ordinary life. Is it a road map to destiny? Yes, but that is really just a rose-colored metaphor. This book is really a compass and a machete because that’s all you need to move forward. You see, in this book I’m giving you True North and a tool to cut away the obstacles that you will face on your journey. What’s awesome is that inside you (are you ready for this?), God has already set your destination. You feel that, don’t you? Like something deep inside you wants to pull you into something truly great, but you just don’t know what it is? It’s there, and you are going to discover it. More than that, with your trusty compass and your sharp machete, you are going to get there. In this book, each chapter is like a refueling station on your journey, providing you with needed supplies and the coordinates of your next stop. It’s a hard path. Your arms will get tired from clearing the way before you, and at times you will feel completely lost. You can quit at any time, but you know in your heart of hearts that that decision only guarantees that you will never see your destiny fulfilled, so keep going. If you do, you too will become … A David.

    Where Are The Davids?

    INTRODUCTION

What is a David? The better question is, Who was David? If you live in the US or UK, there’s a good chance that you don’t really know. You might have heard of David right before a mismatched athletic contest, where the commentator said something like, This is a real David-and-Goliath matchup. This usually happens right before the David gets completely mauled, mutilated, and destroyed by the Goliath. Why? Because David isn’t supposed to win. If you’ve ever read the story of David in your Bible, however, you know something interesting … he does.

When we find David, he’s young, about sixteen years old. This handsome and athletic but basically normal teen is out on a sun-scorched field, facing the warrior-giant named Goliath, who carries a shield the size of Texas and a spear you could drive into the ground and stick a regulation basketball hoop on. This is the original David vs. Goliath matchup. So how does David come out for battle? Did he come out to face this monster of a man in the most high-tech armored chariot that Israel could produce? Did he roll out wearing the most sophisticated new body armor sent down from heaven on special delivery just for him? No, he went out carrying nothing but a shepherd’s staff, a sling, and a bag of five stones, but is that all that he had? No. He had a secret weapon, one that no one could see or could even guess that he possessed. He had his God.

David is one of the great heroes of the Bible for one reason—because he stepped out into battle against impossible odds for the honor and glory of God—and he won.

    Where Are The Davids?

Today, Western Christianity is in a battle as never before. In the nation that pioneered the world missions movement, Great Britain, it is estimated that almost 40 percent of people don’t believe in God. The United States, another cornerstone of Christianity for the last three hundred years, is
