    God’s Garden

After a long hard winter, spring was finally arriving! My husband’s family had survived their first hard winter in the country. Only thru miracles God had performed.

The Carl Lawrence family of four had moved to the country upon the doctor’s order. Carl had been disabled but also knew he must support his family.

Carl’s pension had not been activated as yet so they were forced to live on $28.00 per month. His employer had given him emergency funds of $28.00 per month. One dollar for each year he had been employed there, so 28 years.

Now that spring was here Carl could plant a garden. There was a fence that separated the Lawrence property from the neighbor’s property on a hillside. So when the neighbor plowed his garden, he rolled up the fence, came over and plowed the Lawrence property as well. Fenceposts remained intact. Carl eagerly planted the garden hoping for a good harvest.

There was a drought that summer. All the neighbor’s gardens dried up. That is all the gardens except the Lawrence’s. All the wells dried up. However, the Lawrence’s spring still produced plenty of crystal clear water from the perpetual spring on the Lawrence’s property.

Dad Lawrence’s garden was beautiful and green. There were record bumper crops. My husband’s family canned and canned until everything was full. The neighbor’s picked and canned from the Lawrence’s garden. They carried water from the spring on the Lawrence property.

My husband still talks today about those being the largest half runner green beans he ever saw, with record large potatoes, huge beefsteak tomatoes and other plenteous vegetables.

The neighbors could not understand how that on one side of that fence, the garden was dried up and dead, and on the other side it was green and bountiful. They asked Dad Lawrence if he was some kind of agriculture expert? He said No, but every seed I planted, I planted in Jesus’ Name! God blessed and increased the seed!"

What a testimony this was to the whole countryside! They had to acknowledge it was a miracle from God!

    Quicksand

    U. S. 25 was in the process of being built. As usual, all roads always went through my mom and dad’s property. I think there were five of them which kept taking more and more of the farm until finally dad bought the adjoining land behind us.

My dad was a farmer and things were slow in winter. So he took a job as a foreman over a group of men to clear the right of way for the new highway.

It was a cold, rainy, winter day when I left to take dad’s lunch to him. I’m not sure why on this day. Maybe mom just thought something hot would taste good in the bitter cold. Where the equipment had graded the roads, it was solid mud.

I had delivered the lunch and was on the way back home. I decided to try to walk on the graded, filled road. The mud was bad but I had on boots. However, in the middle of the woods, I suddenly began to sink into quicksand. The more I pulled, the deeper I sank, until finally I was into mud to my waist. By this time I was scared. Mainly I was scared because I thought this was the end for me and I was not saved. I cried out to the Lord, Lord, please help me, or I’m going to be buried in this mud. I felt no one would ever know what happened to me, because I had seen movies of people disappearing and never being found. So I was desperate. Just like the miracles that God always performs, all at once I spotted a huge rock. I was able to pull and claw my way up on that rock until I was out of the mud and safe on the other side of the rock. I will honestly never know how I did it. I know I could not had it not been for the Lord and His angels helping me. It was an impossible situation without divine intervention. It wasn’t long after that that I did surrender my life to the Lord and He filled me with the wonderful Holy Ghost, and I was baptized in the wonderful Name of Jesus! There have been many other times in my life that the Lord has spared my life, some I know about and some I don’t. Thank you Lord for being so merciful!!!!!!!!

    The Load Of Coal

When my husband was 12 years old, his dad was disabled and they moved to the country. They had purchased a farm, which had no modern conveniences.

His dad was drawing $28.00 per month. That fed two adults, and two teenage boys, my husband and his older brother. Terence’s dad tithed faithfully on that $28.00 per month. If they had car problems or no gas, he would mail in his $2.80, but faithful they were in their giving.

Their source of heat was coal or wood burning stoves. They had a lot of timber on this land, but getting it harvested was difficult. They would cut the trees closest to their house which was green pine usually. While trying to stay warm burning this green wood, they decided to petition God for some coal.

There was a deep snow on the ground and the road to their house was impassable in winter. Groceries and any other commodity had to be carried across a field to get to the house, thru the mud or snow.

In the early part of the day, there was a knock on the door. It was a minister of like faith. He told them, while I was praying this morning, the Lord kept showing me your name on your mailbox! Then He told me to bring you a load of coal. I knew you had just moved in here, but felt I must obey the Lord! Would you be offended if I brought you a load of coal? No, No, his mom Nellie replied! We prayed this morning for a load of coal! We have been burning green pine and can’t stay warm! So they went outside and this man of God had a horse drawn sled loaded down with coal.

The minister and the Lawrence family unloaded the coal and then there was a time of fellowship and refreshments as prayer was offered to God for supplying the need!

    Angels Unaware

The first winter my husband’s family lived on a farm, God sent several miracles their way.

Terence’s dad had been disabled, and his disability pension had not been activated as yet. The family of 4 was forced to live on $28.00 per month. Carl Lawrence drew a dollar for each year he had worked at the plant. This fed the mother and dad, and 2 teenage boys.

Carl or Pop as I called him tithed faithfully on that $28.00 per month. If their car gave them problems so they were not able to go to church, he would send his $2.80 tithes in the mail. Sometime they did not have gas to go but they were faithful to God.

Food was scarce in the Lawrence household, as well as other staple items. One morning his parents knelt down and prayed for food to feed themselves and their two boys.

Later in the day, there was a knock on the back door. When they answered the door, there was noone there, but there were two large bags of groceries. There were no tracks in the snow, no sign of anyone being there. Only the two big bags of groceries! What praise and rejoicing took place as they thanked God for this blessing!

Were these ministering angels? The Bible speaks of entertaining angels unaware! The Lawrence’s felt this was truly a case of angelic happenings!

The many miracles which happened when my husband lived on that farm strengthened my husband’s faith so greatly! Now as a minister, he has great faith in God!

I marvel at the miracles in his young life. God really blessed him and had His hand on him throughout his life.

    The Flood

It was Monday afternoon, June 16, 2003. Terence had received a phone call about 4:30 p.m. Some elderly man had an AC out. He had asthma so needed a quick repair. Terence decided he would go as supper was not quite ready. (His favorite meal, fried chicken and trimmings). He left about 4:45. Supper would be ready about 5:30, so he said he would be back by then. (I was used to Terence being late when he went on a service call). About 5 minutes after he left we had a cloud burst. I worried about him then. However, when 5:30, 5:45, then 6:00 rolled around I was really getting worried. I began checking the message pads to see if I could find out where he had gone. I called one place and they said No, he isn’t here, but will be tomorrow. I talked to him earlier. After finding the place I thought he had gone, I couldn’t find a name or number on the message. I then called a man who works for him, asking him if Terence had said anything about where he was going. He had said no. We agreed to all pray for his safety.

At 5:50, I turned on the TV to watch the news. Everywhere there were floods. Then I really began to worry. I paced and prayed for God’s protection. Little did I know what was going on at that very moment that Terence was sitting in muddy water to his waist.

About 5:30 Terence had finished the service call. He had started back home. He noticed water running across a road at George’s Creek and Bulaville Road. He watched it a while and could see it wasn’t deep and proceeded to cross the road. Just as he pulled out to cross the road, an avalanche of water rushed at him, thus sweeping the van in the ditch and causing him to float. He tried to back up but then the motor died. Water began to come up in the Van almost instantly. He grabbed his cell phone and called 911. (Thank God he had remembered to take that phone. We had bought the phone so he would have it for emergencies) He talked to 911 while they were trying to dispatch someone to the scene. By the time the rescue people arrived they knew all of Terence’s medical history. They knew that he had had 4 heart bypasses, 2 angio - plasti - stents, was a severe diabetic and had lost half his right foot. They talked to him the whole time telling him what to do. By this time the water was up over the arm rests. He said the thing that scared him most was when the van rocked. He did not know whether it was going to start moving downstream or flip over. Either was a scary scenario. He did stay put which was wise.

The first 2 guys that came did not have equipment to rescue him. Then a second set (firemen) came with a rope. He could not get out on the driver’s side, but had to cross over to the
