About this ebook

When one thinks of exoneration, the first thing that comes to mind is incarceration. One may think that a person was sent to prison for a crime committed, but after reviewing solid evidence, it was discovered that the person was not guilty of the alleged crime or has served enough time for a miniscule offense that did not warrant a long-term prison sentence.

This book is not about a physical prison at all; it depicts the life of a young girl who was mentally incarcerated. She was thrust into repetitive sexual abuse beginning at a very young age and continuing through adolescence. After blaming herself for many years, she finally had her sentence of agony, pain, frustration, etc. exonerated.

    FOREWORD

When one thinks of exoneration, the first thing that comes to mind is incarceration. One may think that a person was sent to prison for a crime committed, but after reviewing solid evidence, it was discovered that the person was not guilty of the alleged crime or has served enough time for a miniscule offense that did not warrant a long term prison sentence.

This book is not about a physical prison at all; but it depicts the life of a young girl that was mentally incarcerated. She was thrust into repetitive sexual abuse beginning at a very young age and continued through adolescence. After pinning the blame on herself for many years, she finally had her sentence of agony, pain, frustration, etc. exonerated.

The emotional essence of this story is relatable and understandable by many people that have experienced the same type of abuse that caused them to be bound and imprisoned for many years. We soon learn that imprisonment begins in the mind and only until the mind gives way to freedom is that person truly free.

This book uses poetry as a segway to begin or end each chapter. The boxes at the end of the chapters provide information that can be shared in small groups and/or with individuals.

    MENTAL EXONERATION

    (THE EXONERATED LIFE)

    CHAPTER 1

    By Shelbia Carter Wiley

                    Whose tutelage am I under

And what lessons will I learn

                    Will they affect my being

Or will they make my stomach turn

Will they rob me of my innocence

Or teach me about the deep

I flinch at the subtle invasion

A way out is what I seek

                    Am I the only victim

                    That succumbs to your host

                    Will I survive this destruction

Or lose what I am the most

    ……an innocent girl…

Angela, Angela!, her mother called to her with frustration in her voice.
