About this ebook

Charles Paige Choates story begins in January of 1925 in Baywood, Virginia, a town just eight miles west of Galax, his hometown. In From Baywood to Broadway, he presents an honest and nostalgic memoir of his bucolic life growing up with his large family, graduating from high school in 1942 in a class of fifty-one students.

Choate shares the details of his family, his childhood, growing up on the farm, his service in World War II, his travels abroad, and how he started his own family after meeting Louise, the love of his life. With touching personal reflections and engaging stories, he offers a look at his family history and gives a window into his and his familys life.

A testament to a life well-lived, From Baywood to Broadway narrates one mans story while providing insight into all of the changes and transitions the world has witnessed since his birth in 1925.

    Dedication

This book is dedicated to the memory of Louise Taylor Choate (October 30, 1925 - December 19, 2016). On January 30, 2016, Louise and I celebrated 70 years of marriage, surrounded by our family and friends.

Our journey together spanned many decades and a number of locations; wherever we were, Louise made a home that was warm and welcoming. She was the beloved mother of Susan and Nancy, grandmother of Alan, Kyle, Ryan, and Brian, and great-grandmother to Kierstin, Lee, Logan, Charlotte, and William.

Louise and I also shared a lifelong spiritual journey. She was active in the United Methodist churches in each city where we lived, serving in many capacities. In our retirement, she and I were especially devoted to the Fellowship Sunday School Class, which we helped to found, and to the Stephen Ministry at Snellville United Methodist Church.

Family always came first with Louise, and it is through the memories of those closest to her that she will live on. She is dearly missed and fondly remembered by all of us.
