About this ebook

Where are the Armenians of the Armenian highland? Where on earth have they gone? How did they disappear? How is it that of the 7 million Armenians existing in the 14th century was left only two million by 1920, that otherwise, if no genocides were inflicted, should have counted as much as 75 million people today, instead of 10? Communism and Nazism could implement such a racist and xenophobic ideology only for 70 and 25 years, respectively, causing that amount of human and material damage and aberration we all know. No other genocide has ever lasted so many centuries and no other state has perpetrated as many genocides against as many ethnicities as Turkey. An estimated 11 million Armenians have been reportedly exterminated from 1065 to 1923, through a mechanism of cyclical genocides. More than 4 million Christians endured genocide and died at the hands of the Turks between 1890 and 1923. Let us not forget the scope and brutality of the events that exterminated the three-quarter of the Armenian people, reduced the Armenian homeland and its colossal cultural heritage to rubbles. Armenia was then occupied and partitioned among neighboring countries. More than 3 thousand Armenian churches were either confiscated, destroyed, dilapidated, blown up, turned into stores, stables or mosques, intentionally left to fall into disrepair or ruination.
Ottoman-Turkish, Pan-Turkist, and radical Islamist establishments have never concealed a certain fascination, glorification, and praise for genocide, to the point to elevating it to a state-adopted strategy-dogma, to a mystification extent, supported with a contributive and elusive ideology: denial. And genocide deniers are three times more likely to commit genocide again than other governments. Neither Armenian nor Turkish historiography have ever reported even fringe elements of Turkish establishment and political school of thought open to dialog with Armenians, much less a sympathizer, if at all.
Historically, all genocide committing countries have manifested resentment and promoted reconciliation with the survivors, except for Turkey, thus holding the truth hostage through denial and distortive misinformation, preventing even its own people from accessing to genocide historical information - although 15 years ago, only 2% of Turkish population knew and accepted the truth, presently 15% - and threatening the international community of any recognition consequences. Somebody has to invite Turkey to rationality, responsibility, and consciousness. If the Armenians were to be assimilated, Islamized and Turkified, genocide wouldnt happen. Ottoman Turkey lost the war and the empire but gained the battle against the Armenians. An estimated 6 to 8 million hidden or crypto Armenians, the progeny of the orphans and the Islamized Armenians who survived, will be challenging Turkey in the foreseeable future: whims of history.
Since the Ottoman-Turks incursions into Asia Minor, genocide never ceased, nor the Christian community took the trouble to protect the first Christian nation-state on earth. To quote Martin Luther Ling In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends

    FOREWORD

The Armenian genocide of 1915 is known as the first of the 20th century and the second most-studied after the Holocaust. It can lay claim to a considerable volume of multilingual literature. Contrary to what is widely believed, the 1915 genocide of the Armenians is neither the first nor the last Armenians had to endure. The Armenian genocide is associated and coincides with the incursion of the Seljuk and the Ottoman Turks into Asia Minor, i.e. the Armenian homeland, from the 11th century, stretching to Ataturk’s reign in the 20th century. In the case of Azerbaijan, genocide was implemented in relatively more recent times, since it became a state only in 1918, then instructed by Turkey on genocide implementing tactics. An estimated 11 million Armenians were killed from 1065 to 1923. No other genocide has lasted so many centuries and no other state has perpetrated as many genocides against as many ethnicities as Turkey. It is also the only self-financed genocide of history. The Ottoman-Turkish deep state policy of colonialism, brutalization and criminal intimidation has made of the Armenian people its staunchest enemy. Many populations have disappeared by natural causes or evolution, but only a few are those who were extinct by genocide. The Armenian people could narrowly escape such a destiny. Nevertheless, the Armenian nation has managed to survive like the fabled Phoenix… The Armenians, through their horrible historical experience, do really know the true face of radical Islam. While recent genocides, 1909, 1915 are amply documented, we know little about the previous ones. However, we can ask a very concrete question. Where are the Armenians of the Armenian Highland? Why has been the Armenian population historically declining? History tells us that in the 14th century there existed 7 million Armenians. According to the replacement theory every 25 years a population is expected to double, unless epidemics, disproportioned wars, natural disasters and, genocides, occur, within a fertility rate of 2.11 children per family. History tells us, besides, that the average medieval Armenian family consisted of 12 to 20 members. Now, taking into account the aforementioned theory, within the logic of empiricism, rationalism, and syllogism, it should be fairly easy to deduce the reason for the decline in the Armenian population. Had not genocides taken place the Armenians should nowadays have soared to more than 75 million, instead of barely 10 million. Genocide and Pan-Turkism, in other words, came to establish a direct and mutual proportionality: the advancement of Pan-Turkism was made possible with cyclical genocides. Pan-Turkism is the ideology of the Turks, inherited from their Ottoman ancestors, which aspires to unite into one political entity, possibly under Turkish leadership, all Turkic peoples and tribes who live in Turkey, Asia, and eastern Europe, and speak languages and dialects belonging to the Turkic language family. If non-Muslim populations happen to be around, such as Armenians, Greeks, and Assyrians, a policy has to be implemented which will eliminate them. The process has usually three steps. The first is diplomatic: peaceful Turkification attempts and eventual Islamization. If this fails, step two takes over: ethnic cleansing. Should this fail as well, then the sole alternative left is genocide. That’s the so beloved art of massacre of the Turks, a sort of Ottoman-Turkish genetic disease. When habits change into character … Furthermore, if any Muslim ethnic group opposes or resists Pan-Turkism such as the Kurds and the Alevi, the alternative is the same. Currently, Turkish neo-Ottoman, pan-Turkic and radical Islamist President Erdogan is reviving this ideology. To this day, Pan-Turkism has failed to advance but through genocides. Hence its praise and glorification, necessity and inevitability in an ever-developing geopolitical realpolitik. Despite the historical rivalry, very rare are the instances where a Sunni and Shia state could build a genuine and intimate relationship, except for Sunni Turkey and Shia Azerbaijan which are bound in Pan-Turkism radical Islam and share a common vision toward genocide, exclusively in an anti-Armenian function-mission, thus establishing a full-fledged axis of evil. Consider how deep and hateful is the relationship between Shia and Sunni Muslims generally and Shia Iran and Sunni Saudi Arabia particularly.

There is a critical need for further studies, mainly in light of unrelenting Turkish denial of committing the genocide of the Armenians. This volume is intended as a modest contribution to shed light and raise awareness in this respect. Instead of investigating and diagnosing, repenting and reconciling, Turkey has chosen to invest massive public financial resources in misinformation, distortion and historical falsification; marching straight, undaunted and with great pride toward denial. According to Dr. Gregory Stanton, Research Professor in Genocide Studies and Prevention at the George Mason University, Virginia, genocide-denying governments are three times more likely to commit genocide again than other governments. As if it becomes an addiction then develops into a sort of genetic predisposition. This is why sometimes in this volume we refer to genocide as an addictive Turkic instinct. As a result, Turkey and Azerbaijan do pose an existential threat to Armenia. The big challenge for Turkey consists of a series of paradoxes: how to come to terms with its past? How to give up the horrible ideology called Pan-Turkism which if accompanied with radical Islam and fomented with Turkish nationalism and racism is capable of delivering an unlimited devastating impact in genocidal terms which can equal the horrors of Nazi-Fascism and Communism. Turkey cannot but see itself as a paladin of a self-declared exceptionalism and mission, under which a series of genocides were perpetrated. How become a genuine democracy while promoting Pan-Turkism generating Islamic fundamentalism and claiming western values of civilized states? What kind of identity is Turkey looking for in nurturing and alimenting Pan-Turkism and radical Islam? Turkey keeps looking to East while retaining its NATO membership. It lobbies for EU accession while it indulges in domestic repression and abuses democracy. While other states which have committed genocide have repented, apologized, mended fences and paid reparation to their victims or their successors, or otherwise refrained from such practice, Turkey seemingly takes national pride in perpetrating genocides against the Armenian people, as well as Greeks, Assyrians, Kurds and others. Turkish establishment routine threatens Armenia, indulges in hostile political discourse, blockades Armenia, rejects conciliatory attempts and instigates Azerbaijan into genocidal enterprises against the Armenians. Turkey is inhabited by 50 minorities speaking 36 languages, the largest among them being the Kurds, the Alevis, and the Islamized or crypto Armenians. The latter are the children of genocide survivors who were meant to assimilate, to Turkify, to Kurdify, and to Islamize. Whims of history, they survived and somehow kept their identity, now a thorn in Turkey’s side. Nevertheless, Turkey has criminalized the concept of identity by constitutionally stipulating the non-existence of other than Turks and by creating a bizarre legal mechanism which can throw into jail whoever dares to make public his non-Turkish identity or ethnicity, thus committing the crime of offending the so-called Turkishness, a sort of amour proper of the Turks. Even worse, ipso facto it can be interpreted as threatening the national security and unity. Kurds, for example, are known as mountain Turks. How can such a state be defined a democracy? The West seems unable, maybe unwilling, to confront the blackmailing and intimidating approach of Turkey. It keeps ignoring Turkish and Azerbaijani policy of not abiding by international humanitarian and criminal law. Turkey exploits to the full its strategic and geopolitical location. It also gets highly advantageous economic concessions from the West in addition to NATO membership: these are the three components still able to guarantee the territorial integrity of the country. Azerbaijan, in turn, exploits its oil-rich reserves and is a multiethnic and synthetic state as well, with 30 ethnic groups or minorities. Both Turkey and Azerbaijan can still survive thanks to domestic, ethnic repression. Forging ahead, meaning planning more genocides, thus fueling Pan-Turkism and radical Islam, is the sole alternate perspective they can rely on. Such a choice keeps them away from democracy and questions Islam and its compatibility with democracy. Both in Turkey and in Azerbaijan ethnic Turks and ethnic Azerbaijanis are a minority. Hence, the theory of serial genocides as an imperative both in retrospective, i.e. historical, and prospective sense. Hence the praise of genocide to the point of becoming so instinctive, so natural and so acceptable as to form a cornerstone of national policy. Their geopolitical evolution appears to be modeled typically on ex-Soviet Union and former Yugoslavia examples: as long as the central power is strong enough, it can control, repress and silence the minorities, i.e. the centrifugal tendencies. However, both fell apart, the former in 15 piece-states and the latter in 8. History does not only repeat itself but is also implacable, no entity and no power are allowed to exceed their life cycle.

The Ottoman-Turkish genocidal-jihadi systematic attack is a twin strategy that has eliminated the three-quarters of the Armenian people, destroyed 90% of the Armenian civilization, left the Armenian cultural heritage lying in ruins and led to the confiscation of property. More than 5 thousand Armenian churches spread throughout Turkey, Iran, Azerbaijan, and Georgia were either confiscated or destroyed, blown up, turned into stores or public toilets, stables or mosques, intentionally left to fall into disrepair or ruination.

Sunni Muslim Radical Turks have politically intoxicated Armenia’s neighboring countries forcing them to adopt similar strategies. Thus, Christian Russians, Shia Muslim Azerbaijanis, Shia Iran and Christian Georgians, to a greater or lesser extent, have participated to the physical elimination and cultural heritage destruction of the Armenian people, while Christian Europe, with a common general system of values it had created for itself, passively assisted, speculating between religious demagogy and economic profit. Notwithstanding their cultural background, historical expertise and scientific achievements, Europeans fell victim to their own historic miscalculations. By refusing to militarily back Armenians first, to prevent the fall of the Armenian kingdoms of the Bagratids and of Cilicia, 1064 and 1375 respectively, and the fall of Byzantium and Constantinople, later in 1453, they have eliminated two frontline buffer states capable of inhibiting Muslim incursions from Central Asia toward Europe, thus contributing to the elimination of the native populations of Asia Minor and allowing Islam to approach Europe. Byzantium had, in turn, rejected any military alliance consideration with Armenia. At the end, the same enemy had them both eliminated. Thus, Byzantium had ceased to exist as a Christian power after 1100 years. By the time the first Crusades began, 1095, Muslims had conquered two-thirds of the Christian world. It took almost 500 years to avert the peril and react accordingly. But it was too late, and the consequences are plain to see. The current peaceful invasion of Europe is not immune from those historical facts. The Europeans refused to support the Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia, so it had to surrender and fall. Their favorable assent to the genocide of 1915 has resulted in the destruction of Armenia and the Armenian people. This is how they facilitated the advancement of Islam which is now penetrating into Europe.

A diplomatic attack has followed WWI. Armenia kept being a bone of contention among neighboring countries. Once stripped of its historic lands, Armenia underwent diplomatic genocide accompanied with military aggression. A series of treaties, of doubtful legality, have legalized territorial amputations to the benefit of neighboring countries. Thus, Armenia has lost ninety percent of its historic homeland. Nor Soviet Armenia was exempt from further harassment and mass deportations, this time from Soviet authorities, continuing from what Turks had left incomplete. An exhausted people made up of refugees, orphans, genocide survivors, suffering epidemics, and famine, underwent soviet persecution and ethnic cleansing, tens of thousands of Armenians were exiled to Siberia, on the road to nowhere! The Armenian Church, the scientific community, the intellectuals and the military were practically annihilated.

Genocide experts maintain that genocide as an act of destruction of a people and/or state is accompanied by the construction of a parallel and alternative one. Indeed, by decimating the Armenians’ native homeland Turks have founded their new state called Turkey, which, in turn, could come into existence, grow and prosper on the land of the Armenians thank to confiscation of Armenians’ property, wealth and assets: an outrage to the Armenians’ human dignity and their millennial civilization, to mankind, justice and ethics.

    CHAPTER ONE

    WHO ARE THE TURKS

This volume is not intended to be against Islam, but rather against radical Islam. The Armenians have been historically able to coexist and to come to terms with moderate Islam. Proof of it is the almost two centuries of relatively peaceful Arab domination on Armenia, 7th to 9th, and more recently the reception of 1915 genocide survivors by almost all Arab countries, where they were granted all rights to peacefully live, worship, build churches and schools, and keep their national identity within mutual respect.

Few people know the true face of Islam. Since the very day the Turks appeared on the international arena, or at least since they accepted Islam, down to these days they have been relentlessly promoting intercultural confrontation, interreligious hatred, interethnic conflicts and, sectarian tensions, thus fueling the struggle among civilizations in order for them to gain political and territorial benefit. To this end, they set up an ideology, built up an army and adapted Islam to better serve their purposes. Among the main methods, they employed more often than not should be placed the so beloved practice of genocide, so phlegmatically and consistently inflicted. Disregard for civilian life was and still is universal. It’s truly about an anthropological exceptional case of the Turks. A tale of countless genocides. Many former colonialist empires, once failed or fallen, have simply abandoned their past glory and dreams and started all over again, thus adapting their policy to the international requirements of the specific historic time, i.e. the new order. That’s not the Turkish case. In Turkey, they refuse to understand this is an anachronism devoid of meaning. Turkish political elite is still living in the past. Same ideology, methodology and action plan is imposed on Azerbaijan, by Turkey.

To quote American author Napoleon Hill (1883-1970) Whatever the mind of a man can conceive and believe, it can achieve. That’s what the Turkish mind has conceived, believed and overwhelmingly achieved. The satanic and uncompromising plan, however, is still in progress. The Armenian genocide is a highly politicized topic and is not what the Armenians claim, it’s rather an unequivocal fact of history. Turkish schoolchildren are taught that the Armenian genocide is a myth. Islamist radicalization is an early Turkish conception and not a phenomenon of recent times. Its roots date back to the century Islam was founded, the 7th, with a due distinction between Arabs, Persians-Iranians, and Turks. Turkish-Islamic terror’s first victims were the Christians, namely the Armenians. Another broad generalization is that Turks’ extermination plan of the Armenians was conceived in 1915. Not at all, if anything, centuries-long before. The Armenians’ is the world’s long lasted genocide that transcended time and space, quality and quantity, matter and spirit. By 1915 genocide simply reached its implementation’s peak point. History reports the Hundred Years’ War, 1337-1453, between England and France and the Thirty Years’ War of Central Europe, 1618-1648, between Catholics and Protestants, through which the Roman Empire intended to impose a general religious uniformity on Europe. However, it remains silent over the Turkish unilateral, undeclared war on the Armenians and Armenia, the forgotten Christianity cradle. The assertion that socialism corrodes the human spirit is rather a euphemism compared to Ottomanism or Turkishness which definitely vaunt wipeout virtues that undermined a whole race, the Armenian, both in the temporal and spiritual sense.

The crimes that Turks, the funding and founding fathers of Islamic fundamentalism and radical Islam, have committed against the Armenian people have resulted in essentially an attack on the Armenians’ human and moral dignity and their human spirit, an outrage to humanity, a defeat of human conscience and ultimately in a devaluation of creation in an existential and universal sense. The concept of ethnic cleansing is too restrictive compared to the Turkish practices of abolition, at least partial, of humanity. As mentioned above, Arabs held a relatively moderate and pragmatic attitude in regard to Armenia. During the two centuries of Arab rule rare or irrelevant were suppression attempts of the Armenian Church or the Armenian heritage. Neither forcible imposition of Islam on the Armenians or assimilation policies worthy of mention were promoted. Arabs respected the Armenian legacy confining themselves to politically limiting the Armenians’ regional role and simply imposing heavier taxes, which was the lesser evil. An evidence of Arabs’ positive interaction with Armenia could be represented by the inscriptions, in Arabic, found in Armenia, as well as works of fine manuscripts preserved in the Madenataran of Yerevan, the national library. A significant abidance by the culture and arts, a sensibility towards civilization, civic and religious freedoms and a guarantee of prosperity is commendable.

Another example of Muslim cultural-architectural contribution to civilization is the heritage of Andalusia, in the Iberian Peninsula. Muslim Arabs had enough scientific achievements to develop philosophy, mathematics, and chemistry, while Persians gave birth to a consistent literature and patronized the translation of classical Greek texts, thus making the glory of the Islamic Golden Age. None of those has ever applied to Turkey and the Turks. In other words, moderate or even conservative Islam has granted a chance of coexistence with Armenians and Christians, while radical Islam has opted for their elimination. An example of moderate Arabs’ tolerance is given by the historical fact that the survivors of the Armenian genocide who were driven out from their ancestral land to the Arab countries Syria, Iraq, Jordan, and Lebanon where they were welcomed, assisted and sheltered. Even under the most terrible totalitarian rules, they were respected until ISIS came, and another cycle of violence and exodus occurred. However, if on one hand, radical Islam never relinquished violence and genocidal inclinations towards Christians, on the other, moderate Muslim states have never reprimanded or incarcerated any radical Muslim terrorist for any anti-Christian activity, or even murder. For example, tens of churches have been burned in Egypt, but no terrorist was ever charged with pillage and arson or murder.

The Turks, instead, since the very day they conquered Asia Minor, XI century, expressed a more radical, violent, confrontational, oppressive, suppressive, terroristic and genocidal attitude against all nations they happened to deal with, chiefly concentrating on the Christian populations, but on Muslim minorities as well, and particularly, unleashing their furious impulsiveness and instinctive, unlimited and annihilating potential against the Armenians. Instead of alleviating and solving ethnic and sectarian tensions they have chosen to fuel them in order to get the political and territorial benefit. More accurately, the Turks, compared to Arabs or Iranians, hold an extreme interpretation of the Quran and allegedly an arguable superiority expressed through an exacerbated form of nationalism verging on fanaticism, culminating in a concoction of Islamic fundamentalism and racism. According to the legendary French general-president Charles De Gaulle, patriotism is when the love of one’s own people comes first while nationalism is when hate for people other than your own comes first. Anyone claiming that Turkey is a democracy is peddling fiction.

In his commencement address at Yale University, Connecticut, on June 11, 1962, President John F. Kennedy declared We subject all facts to a prefabricated set of interpretations. We enjoy the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought. Thus, we are invited to re-interpret historic facts that others, in past times and different circumstances, have processed based on their perceptions and interests. If we really are living in a new era where liberalism and liberty, freedom, freedom of speech and expression are virtually in the vanguard of the emancipation of human life and spirit, then we need to build our own opinion in authentic thought.

Apart from moral considerations, there is the legal, juridical aspect of genocide that should be discussed. Was it genocide or not? What is genocide? Is the Turkish alibi credible? Hundreds of books were published in as many languages by the most notorious scholars of the world. The Armenian genocide is the second most studied case of genocide after the holocaust. The genocidal and tyrannical nature of the Turkish Ottoman bloodlust over the course of hundreds of years is amply documented. In the early 20th century, Turkey had, thank Germany, the apparatus, and technology to execute in mass the entire Armenian population that may well have been annihilated. Most objective American and foreign historians who have studied the question unequivocally agree that it was a deliberate, calculated genocide. What do the American and European peoples know of the Armenian genocide? To be sure, some western high school textbooks acknowledge it. Genocide recognition is on the rise. The then president of the United States Grover Cleveland addressing the Congress on Dec. 2, 1895, declared: Occurrences in Turkey have continued to excite concern…Massacres of Christians in Armenia and the development…of a spirit of fanatic hostility to Christian influences…have been lately shocked civilization. This statement was issued long before 1915, and as we will be discussing throughout this book, Seljuk-Ottoman-Turkish plan of extermination of the Armenian ethnos was conceived in the 11th century and ever since never ceased from being implemented.

The Ottoman-Turkish imperialism worked really hard. The year 951 establishes the beginning of the genocide of the Christian nations by the Muslim Turkic plunderers, criminals, and hate preachers. Ever since Armenian, Assyrian and Greek genocides, but also that of the Yezidis’ 500 thousand victims, and other non-Christian minorities were part of an extermination campaign orchestrated by Muslim Turks. Therefore, WWI was just a cover for the final solution to rid the Ottoman Empire of its native Christian citizens, with the silent assent of the Christian powers. To the sharp decrease of the Christian element of the Ottoman Empire coincides a diametrically opposed and more relevant increment of the Muslim settlers.

The Seljuk-Ottoman-Turkish invasion of Armenia in the 11th century represents the starting point of a long-term process of assassination of a whole people as if they already implemented a premeditated plan, inspired to a radical, extremist interpretation of the Quran, based on violence and murder. In 1064, Sultan Alp Arslan, whose victory over the Byzantines at Manzikert ushered in the Turkish settlement of Asia Minor, invaded and destroyed the city of Ani, the then capital of the Armenian Kingdom. Contemporary Arab historian Sibt ibn al-Jawzi recorded in his main work Mira’at al-zaman, The army entered the city, massacred its inhabitants, pillaged and burned it, leaving it in ruins. … Dead bodies were so many that they blocked the streets; one could not go anywhere without stepping over them. And the number of prisoners was not less than 50,000 souls. … I was determined to enter the city and see the destruction with my own eyes. I tried to find a street in which I would not have to walk over the corpses, but that was impossible. Muslim Turks made conquered Christians, Jewish, and non-Muslim populations into second-class citizens and required them to ransom their lives once a year by paying an exorbitant jizyah tax, the exact same practice is promoted today by ISIS against the Christian populations of Iraq and Syria.

In any event, whatever people may think, there are more than 100 verses in the Quran that typically incite not only to violence but also to death, versus our Bibles’ turn the other cheek. Dissension, difference and alternative values are rejected. The Turks have an extraordinary capability to conceal their real, instinctive attitude. We all are delighted to see Turkish statesmen or diplomats in Western dress code, apparently polite, cynically smiling and rigidly abiding the diplomatic praxis and protocol under the guise of a gentleman. However, all that glitters are not gold, and a suit doesn’t make a man. There is a masked Quran scholar and a concealed hate preacher therein. Incitement and promotion of violent forms of confrontation, with Turkification rejecting both Muslims and Christians, prevail. Turkish - at first sight - invisible Islamic fundamentalist ideology was and still is, majestically covered through diplomatic action and commonplace. Only Saudi Wahhabism – so called after its founder Mohammed Ibn Al Wahab, 1702-1792 - which is the ideological pillar of the Saudi Kingdom, an ultraconservative religious Sunni fundamentalist, terrorism-oriented ideology and doctrine considering Islam the only true religion, as a result willing then to eliminate all other religions, could compete with Turkish Islamic extremist ideology. A difference, if any, would be the beard and the clothing… Same ideology the Saudis could pass to Al-Qaeda and later to ISIS. That’s how the Saudis endorsed and funded the Mujahidin of Afghanistan and could defeat the Red Army of the Soviet in 1979, and Iraq’s Saddam Hussein war against Shia Iran as well.

Who and what has determined the Turkish democracy to be as genuine as a Western democracy? It’s rather an autocratically managed pseudo-democracy. And how about the coup d’états?
