    My London

Knew you when your skyline did not inspire

When rickshaws were non-existent for hire

The soot of long-forgotten chimneys darkened you

And your pavements were not pleasant to view

People rode slam door trains and the tube into your heart

Singing along to The Jam’s Down at the Tube Station at Midnight

The headlines haven’t changed much and neither has acumen

They still endlessly tell of death and sorrow and madmen

Like the spectator watching a master magician in form

I have observed enthralled as you transform

Change has come in the things around you a-plenty

And on the City roads where the speed limit now is twenty

Look at you now as you sparkle in the bright sunshine

Glass covered towers thrusting into your sky, pristine

Cleaner today, your spring heart beats vibrantly

Always striving to renew yourself constantly

I walk along your most famous throbbing heart of a Street

Where all nationalities in the world come and meet

Even though your streets are not paved with gold

It’s always enjoyable being part of your world.

    Mortality

I have seen all the disaster movies

The better if they’re full of baddies

Blue Earth set for a doomsday collision

Amongst us no survivors by omission

Sitting at my desk looking at the rosy evening sky

Reflecting and trying to make sense of why

Will there be no corporeal me any more

By the end of this century just like all men before

    Inner reflection is what
