    Introduction

    The Real Problem

A wide section of the Indian population with the exception of a small elite section though learning the English language is unable to speak the language. Those studying in government schools (where education is free) and in remote villages are not comfortable with the language. They are unable to frame a sentence correctly. When they reach the college level, they are again at a disadvantage. Even the students in English medium schools are not free from the problem. Professionals hailing from remote small towns and villages, too, have a difficulty with the language.

Being aware of the problem, a remedial teaching programme was introduced in colleges, which gives extra lectures to those facing the language problem, but is rather implemented ineffectively. The attendance is poor and the course is a repetition of that certain basics taught earlier.

India is a labour-intensive economy, where labour is our asset and labour needs the training to enable our youngsters to penetrate the international market. It is heart-rending to know that a few organisations and NGOs are working in this direction of helping the underprivileged sections. This book lays down a format to work upon.

In this book, I have suggested the Dialogue Method in Seven Models to overcome the problem. It would be an advantage to have a 50-100 marks assessment on the exercises in the book; else, it may not be taken seriously. The models are intended to sort out the confusion and make a road to clear thinking. May the students understand what they learn in its entirety. The teaching methods have been experimented upon, but further experimentation in a wider scene will be fruitful. The authorities have to be convinced about the practical unfolding of the results of the method.

The book is a collection of poems written in a simple language, for series of English classes. These are related to life-experiences of Munira. Munira’s mother leaves her a legacy of poems, her lessons for life. For her, each day begins with welcoming arms to embrace the sun’s rays. Goddess Saraswati inspired her to dance, sing and learn. She experienced triumph and defeat while flying the kite, but also learned to smile. Her toys taught her meaningful lessons The student learns grammar, as he flies on the wings of poetry.

The butterflies take birth, somewhere, on the bosom of the earth and spread the message of love. Munira had a deep friendship with the butterfly and is, in fact, the butterfly enveloped in the everlasting love of the flower. The butterfly, as if, seeking something desperately from the depth of the heart, enclosed. in the flower of the golden vase, and finally lost her breath on a moonlit night. That was the tragic end of the butterfly. Is the moon real, Munira asked but saw a different light. The light was the message from heaven, for the butterfly was a true messenger of God.

On one rainy day, the thief stole into Munira’s cottage, escaped in his raincoat, and was caught later when he narrated his true story in the passive voice. On very special occasions, the Pizza man has a prompt and ready service to serve at Munira’s door. The clouds plan a holiday for Munira, and on the flooded street, Imraan, then, has an adventurous sail to Munira’s cottage. Munira merges with the song of Goddess Saraswati. She sings, and dances in glory with the butterfly from heaven.

I hope, that the reader also wears the wings of poesy, and is transcended into a new world, where Munira lives. The exercises on dialogue making, and identifying the sentences in the model chain would help in the construction of correct meaningful sentences. Smart World, which is a training institute, has adopted the method with good proven results. This is the beginning of a long journey, which the author wishes to tread.

The grammatical dialogues should be practised by writing them several times according to the need of the individual learner.

The tables should be memorised, understood and written for greater clarity.

Best Wishes to every student, learner, teacher and reader.
