About this ebook

Reiki was there in the past and present and will be there in future. The world is controlled by natural laws and universal energy; we call it God, Allah, or Ishwar.

In Japanese, rei means God's wisdom or the Higher Power, and ki is life force energy. In Russian, reiki means bioplasmic energy. In Sanskrit, reiki means divine and infinite energy. This is the primary power, and with this energy, the material world (i.e., matter) is created. It is not related or limited to any religion or caste. Reiki is advantageous for all living and nonliving matter.

This basic energy is wholly responsible for the evolution of mankind and ones spiritual progress. Reiki helps to keep the body and mind healthy. The six enemiesanger, greed, lust, fear, jealousy, and envyare big roadblocks in the way of lifes progress, which can be eradicated with the help of reiki. By connecting the energy of our inner conscience with the universal energy, we can overcome diseases, low confidence levels, personality disorders, lifes dissatisfactions, fear and mental restlessness, etc., through reiki initiation and dedicated practice. Reiki changes ones outlook toward life and makes ones existence meaningful and complete in this widespread universe.

    Dedication

    ||Pitrudevobhava||

    To my beloved parents, my dear mother Dr. Malati Patil and my late father Shri Madhavrao Patil, who gave me my value system, provided me with timely encouragement during the course of my work and at all other times of my life. Even as the blessings of my late father still shower on my path, my mother continues to be my inspiration till date. I dedicate this book, with due respect, therefore to my parents.

    Foreword

    Today as I bring this book to, you, my readers…

    …my mind is brimming with immense joy. Let me explain why. Till date, in my medical practice, I have come across many patients. Most of these patients, I noticed equate a doctor to God, this is so because the doctor relieves them, by treating them and at times hopefully by curing them, of their agony and pain caused by various ailments. Often a typical patient comes to us doctors, with a lot of hope in his or her heart and literally pleads, saying Doctor, do whatever you can but relieve me from the suffering of this disease. I feel, every doctor feels from the bottom of his heart that he should respond to such pleadings of their patients and not just medically treat them but actually must successfully cure them. Thus, it has been my earnest desire and a sincere endeavour to address this issue of the suffering and the dilemma of such patients. From this sentiment has sprung my humble thought of developing the ‘integrated therapeutic approach’ so as to treat the medical disorders, especially the ones that are chronic and not amenable to the so called reductionist treatments. I firmly believe that curing the patient (and not just ‘treating’ her or him for a medical ailment), is more important than just the type of therapy given to him or her. It is a given that it has to be a medically legitimate treatment. With this thought in mind, I evaluated various different types of therapies that were necessary as well as valid for treating the patients and those at the same time found to be effective as well in such a treatment. Upon this observation, along with the mainstream medicine, I started including such treatments in my integrated therapeutic approach. Even as I did so, I saw to it that I had thoroughly studied all these therapeutic systems so as to assess their medical orientation as well as the fact that they were evidence based. Side by side, I also assessed and verified the pros and cons of each system. In my evaluation, I observed such a combined treatment on one side and that administered to the patients of KEM hospital, where I was working then, on the other. Very soon I realized that I could devise a new healing method by combining the different systems of medicine – both mainstream as well as the alternate. I firmly believed that this could not only help cure the patient but also do away with the root cause of the disease itself and that too without any side effects.

    Later, I began evaluating this combined approach of mine in various patients who consented for a treatment with it. It was from this very approach that the ‘Integrated therapy’ (Sanyukta Upchar Padhati) was born. I was of the opinion that it was necessary to let this integrated approach benefit maximum number of patients albeit with a well-structured treatment protocol. This gave birth to my incepting various medical clinics where people could come easily and avail this form of combined treatment. Even now I am working towards bringing this treatment nearer to the patients, closer to their regional location through such clinics which provide this combined therapeutic approach, which now are spread across Maharashtra.

    Even as I worked towards this combined method of treatment which also included Reiki; over a period of time I realized that there was scant knowledge of Reiki amongst the patients whom I treated as also the masses at large, irrespective of their education. It was also felt that there was inadequate scientific information about the various alternate therapies and therefore knowledge and trust only and solely on modern medicine prevailed. Sadly, people lack sufficient awareness of the other forms of treatment which have existed since thousands of years, despite the fact that the other branches of alternative medicine do provide assurance of a permanent cure; even then they are not considered on a serious note when it comes to seeking them as a resort to treating the disease and are actually unfortunately, looked down upon, thinking them to be inferior and unscientific. Such type of skewed outlook has caused a huge loss to the society at large. So as to awaken the trust of the people in these alternate systems of Medicine I authored Arogya Ved, a series of publications in which I have given the details of the illness in an easy to understand manner without compromising on the scientific aspects. The proof of the pudding is in eating it and therefore I would rather consider this integrated therapeutic approach of mine as successful only when it provides cure to the patient and not just present itself as another modality of treatment. I feel proud to share with you that I have treated many patients successfully with this combined approach and the testimonials of these patients have been published in this book.

    I thank all my co-workers and colleagues as also express my special thanks to Reiki Master Dr.Baburao Kshirsagar, my Reiki students and my patients who persuaded me to write this book. I extend my gratitude to Partridge for publishing my book and thus giving me a chance to share my knowledge to the society.

    It is my humble wish that through this book a common man would get to know more easily about various diseases and the appropriate way of their treatment. This is my first attempt towards this book and therefore I do look forward to your suggestions related to it, if any, which are most welcome. Going forward, your valuable inputs will enable me to make due corrections in this simple book.

    History of Reiki

    Reiki means Universal Life-giving Energy. Involving Reiki in one’s spiritual evolution or one’s good health by itself implies Reiki meditation or healing. Reiki can be utilized for the wellbeing of all living beings or non-living things existent in this Universe. Detailed description about this phenomenon called Reiki has been given in this book. We shall begin by understanding the History of Reiki.

    Although being originated in early India, this age old knowledge of Reiki got extinct over the period of time. It was unknown almost till the 19th century. Due to the stupendous efforts and committed meditation of Dr. Mikao Usui, this knowledge was re-enlivened in the 19th century and this extraordinary technique which he named as Reiki, was spread to the ordinary beings.

    DR. MIKAO USUI

    Dr. Mikao Usui was born in mid, 19th century in Japan. He was employed as the Principal of the Great School of Christian Missionaries in the Kyoto City of Japan. During one of his teaching sessions he rendered a heart churning lecture to his students on Bible and Jesus Christ’s humane social services towards the society. On delivering this lecture, one of the students asking for pardon, questioned, if Dr. Mikao Usui had complete faith on the Bible and Jesus Christ to which Dr. Mikao Usui answered in the affirmative saying that Yes, I have profound faith and high respect for every word mentioned on every page of the Bible which is nothing but the truth and also on every act of Jesus Christ. Every description of my lecture is a fact and I can assure you on the same.

    The student retorted by saying that, But Sir, after giving it a deep thought and after our discussion, we have concluded that it is baseless that Jesus Christ could heal any diseased person by just placing his palms on the person. Dr. Mikao Usui realized that he had never given this a second thought. He couldn’t suffice his student’s query and doubt with a rational answer. As a result Dr. Mikao Usui was left deeply restless as he was not able to provide his student with satisfactory answers. He undertook a pledge in his mind of getting to the root of the query and finding out the right answers to the same without fail. He resigned from his post as the Principal of the College and decided to go to the Christian countries to resolve his problem. He first went to Chicago, America to grasp the Christian scriptures and literature where Dr. Mikao Usui’s deep study and research earned him the Doctorate’s degree from the Chicago University, but was unsuccessful in getting the answers to the root query of his study. He was awarded with a Doctorate by the Chicago University for his script on Healing by God and his relation to Man but was not revealed with the secrets of the extraordinary strengths of Christ, the Lord. He would indulge in analytical discussions with the Heads of all the Churches to understand the science and secret behind Jesus Christ’s healing experiences by just placing his hands on the diseased person, but was not satisfied with the required answers. Hence he undertook to study the scriptures of other religions as well that were available in the library of Chicago University. From this study he sensed that his question will be well answered in China and India as their religion and faith was found to be the most ancient of all. Hence he travelled to China, Tibet and North India. He learnt Sanskrit language and studied the Hindu Scriptures. He also studied the religious scriptures of Gautam Buddha. He was successful in gaining answers to many of his questions from Gautam Buddha’s religious scriptures of Kamalsutra, but was not quenched by answers to all his questions. During this period he also mastered the Pali language. He absorbed himself into learning from the various Buddhist religious institutions in India and from ancient scriptures found in the great library of Ancient Nalanda University. Dr. Mikao Usui learnt the Chinese language as well on urgency basis so that he could study the Buddhist scriptures of China. Going back to the moment when Dr. Mikao Usui had achieved his doctorate from Chicago University, it was understood that he had returned to Japan and visited one of the Pagoda’s where he met one 72 year old Buddhist monk. It was that diligent Buddhist monk who had advised Dr. Mikao Usui to travel to India to study the ancient Buddhist scriptures. Now Dr. Mikao Usui travelled back to Japan once again wishing to meet the same monk but unfortunately this meeting was not destined as the old monk had attained salvation during the gap of many years. But he met the religious Master who had taken the position of the Buddhist monk. The Master recognized Dr. Mikao Usui as he was well aware of the discussions held between Dr. Mikao Usui and the late Buddhist Monk. He gave moral support to Dr. Mikao Usui and both sat together for serious discussion and brainstorming on the issue. After mutual discussion it was concluded that both will meditate on the matter in question. Both Dr. Mikao Usui and the Master went to their rooms and each meditated in seclusion for the entire night as per the Sanskrit formulas in Kamalsutra of Gautam Buddha. Both met each other in the morning of the next day to share with each other their meditation experiences and it so happened that they matched with each other. The Buddhist Master advised Dr. Mikao Usui to meditate focusing on the chanting of the mantras in the Kamalsutra. Dr. Mikao Usui asked the Master to suggest to him the secluded place where he could mediate in peace and without any disturbances on which the Master asked Dr. Mikao Usui to look out for the right place on Kuriyama, a pious mountain near Kyoto. Similarly the next day itself Dr. Mikao Usui took off for the mountain called Kuriyama which was 17 miles away from Kyoto city, but before leaving he called to speak to a boy who stayed in that institute and told him that he was going to the Kuriyama mountain to meditate for 21 days without food and water. He told him that he would return on finding the answers to his questions, but in case he did not return then it should be understood that he is dead and he along with his accomplices should go to the flat forest land on the tip of mountain to search for his dead body and do the burial of his body in a suitable place of this pagoda itself. Dr. Mikao Usui then took the shortest way to walk to the Kuriyama mountain and to find a suitable place to start
