    S ky was gloomy, breeze was blowing, and she was looking at the stars through the window of her room. The tears from her eyes were rolling down across her cheeks. She felt as low as never before. She was whimpering, suddenly she heard a knock at the door of her room. In a very soothing voice, her mother called Mahnoor, Mahnoor, Dearie open the door, your father has just arrived. You were to talk to him, afterward, he would go to visit his neighborhood friend. Mahnoor replied in a very doleful tone, hmm, coming.

    Mahnoor a fledgling beautiful girl of 9th-grade, closed the window, drew the curtains and went downstairs holding a paper and pen in her hand for a signature from her father. With trembling hand, she passed the paper to her father and asked for his signature.

    Her father, Saleem Ahmed, threw away the paper and said, Go and help your mother in the kitchen.

    Deep inside, Mahnoor knew that her father would never agree to sign it. It was a permission for an outing with her batch mates.

    She collected the permission paper from the floor. With tearful eyes and without uttering a single word, she moved towards her mother and suddenly Mahnoor’s grandmother, Fatimah
