    The Afterwards

My ongoing years had shown a lack of remembrance here and there, so I decided this incoming year to follow thru with a permanent journal. The writings should take place daily; however, knowing my year to year calendar scheduling, it might be every few days or perhaps once a month entry. We’ll see how it goes for me - Caucasian female; 30+ years; middle-class; mid-to-upper socio-economic class level (This representation growth was based upon parents’ professional undertakings and investments.); double degree educated; social exposure and representation adept - exposure via religious committees; socio-political organizations and all related events.

    A Year’s Collection

G iven that timing was of the essence, I decided to try to writ up my day to day events. The to be daily scripting was just that a true overview within happened and to be happening occurrences.

Each line would reflect what I could possibly detail - no extensive descriptors - quips and quotes included - no barrages within language.

I was trusting that this journal would be reflective of the year’s day to day happenings. Growth episodes denoted. No falsehoods but my life’s ups and downs. A true learning experience for future reviews in doing the right thing. Whether they be personal or professional undertakings.

I was at the age of no return and of no other recourse - womanhood. Maturation through the learning processes was evident. My personality traits, as psychologist research deemed, had been formed by the age of four. My hopes were that there might be slight room for some perfection changes.

We’ll see what second to second, minute to minute, hour to hour, day to day and month to month bring about. It was another period in time committed to decision-making and moving on. Definitive actions would have to be taken no matter what life’s moments presented.

Key encounters throughout this year would also be in the private category offerings. No questions would be asked but solicited evaluations would be required before the final evaluatory word. These offers would have to be cautiously taken since I was at the peak of personal and professional representation.

T hank goodness that inclement weather was not upon us as we celebrated New Year’s Eve in open air. The garden gathering under sky lite stars showed near 100 attendees. These were company employees which had been selected based upon profit margin levels. This was the celebration company gift for this year. Previous gift years, as I had been informed, showed 3 nites/4days Bahama cruises, 4 nites/5 days Bermuda cruises.

I was not at the company long enough to be invited to previous gift events; however, this year, I was fortunate enough to be a near new employee within a key position and invited by a profitable higher level administration male employee - quite a good catch if I say so myself. I was readying for a serious significant other. Another commentary is thank goodness that I had decided to switch companies right after my master’s degree. The position representation warranted very good internal and external connections.

I can’t believe the time I spent on designer dress selection - but that’s another story. However, I might have to vent right now relevant to the eve dress search. It began quite calmly within online search websites and as soon as I had been invited, the typical denoted higher end clothiers, ie Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdales, Nordstrom, Saks, Henri Bendel. I was not seeking out more than $1000 in spending so that I could reserve the dress for later uses. I was truly hoping to come within a seasonal sale - likely at a black cloth tapestry fabric - early winter style timing with some full length sheath shift, perhaps strapless but with overjacket or full wrap.

The gruesome hours spent on line couldn’t even match the frustration. I had gone off to select what I considered the exact sizing which of course to say the least did not work. I had to return two dresses and pay some of the postal returns. So with that said and done, off I went to the higher end clothiers and to the final bridal plus shoppes.

This was scheduled to take a full weekend, Saturday and Sunday. The first am stop on a Saturday was the town’s private wedding shoppe. These designers and clothiers were well-known throughout the region; however, they were a bit pricer than expected, so after dress reviewing and trialing for close to one plus hours, I decided to leave my business card and seek a later on appt if I could not find elsewhere.

Directly afterwards, I went to do a nearby lite cafe lunch. This was a new French café with same country’s culinary meal menu. It replenished the human needs. Immediately following, I drove over to the David’s Bridals which seemed more than satisfactory within selections; they had much to offer in the bridesmaid styling. Again, black was shown for this wedding station - so was it for the mother of the bride and groom and guests.

I browsed for what it seemed endless hours and did decide upon a reasonably ticketed $800 sale piece (down from the near $1200). It was on the heavier satin fabric materia - black on black textured design, just as I had envisioned and just gorgeous in trim style and jacket fit. It suited my figure perfectly. The designer name was not as well known as some others but ad marketed within bridal beauty magazines.

Pleased that professional photos were to be taken for that designated holiday evening, I was not reluctant at all to spend the money.

And I was not concerned with the shoes and handbag accessories since I had a while back gifted myself with Jimmy Choo’s, which were reserved for only special event wearings. The silver leather 2 to 2/12 inch dress sandals @ approx $750 and accompanying silver clutch @ approx. $650 perfected the eve’s presentation. A goodly $ match to eve dress.

I had to follow through with hairstyle and makeup appts too. This would include hairpiece bridal style silver accessories with perhaps metallic gauze or silver sprayed flowers. Too, I was to see what would happen at that period in time.

What happened was an upsweep French braid with interwoven silver silk flowers set within black glittery fabric. The makeup would be specialized salon - a much heavier foundation, blush and eye makeup shimmer application would be required, most especially since it was a night time under fluorescent lights and moonlite eve hours.

Back to the NY’er eve company party: the highlighted Waldorf Astoria, NYC, NY hotel with theatre show weekends, ie Friday thru Sunday. The garden hours were 10 pm to midnight; these hours were filled with site to site screen clips. The showings permitted company corporation luxury divisional happenings - not previously open to general employees.

The midnite hour timing exhibited booming fireworks and champagne fluted toasts. Soft close to orchestral music accompanied the outdoors celebration - piano, viola, violins were musically represented and crooned throughout the late eve. Several corners were selected for this luxurious setting; these were represented by company corporation executives. The outdoors temps had been assessed and gauged at the 50’s F degree, which was quite unusual for ending December and beginning January months in a mid-northern state region. The company’s future weather forecasting had permitted this unique gathering site. The initiating 8 pm hour to 10 pm served the attendees with a museum’s ballroom dining and dancing floor reservation.

    January Journal - page 2

Sig announced during the evening that since he was somewhat concerned my not being a smoker the cigar smoking habit would renounce a developing relationship. Not so for me. Although I had never been a smoker, I did not have an aversion to the smoking itself. The scent of a very good cigar was quite different from smelly cigarettes. I found the other pleasing scent was the one of pipe tobacco smoke. Again, this was founded with vg $ tobacco expense. Sig revealed a Cigar Aficionado via an on-line subscription; he also announced a preference for the high quality Dominicans and Cubans.

He enthusiastically mentioned perhaps a quick future travel tour to one of the Caribbean Island tobacco plants with on-site cigar rolling/wrapping manufacturing. Sounded good to me. It appeared that if our relationship panned out, I’d be more than a sophisticated gal on the make…

The Cigar Factory Workshops were offered. These proved interesting. Truth be told, I was about ready to experiment trial the higher priced cigars. I had enjoyed trialing the Capone filtered and flavored cigarillos as in Jamaican Rum. They smoke represented well and appeared sophisticated within social gatherings, to the extent where I was requested to offer out an invite. Which I did. Perhaps I served well with the advertising and marketing aspect of the cigarillos. However reluctant I was of the full cigar tasting offers, I was fully prepared based upon the background of information.

T he beginning of the month was humdrum. It offered just the usual daily targeted work schedule. Just a few quick together eve gatherings with family and friends. Personal rest and relaxation, quality shopping excursions, at home tv movie viewings - these were undertaken as an updated and catch up within the film industry, leading to the year’s Tony and Oscar awards - some of the film repeats were long time listed since they were not taken in at the release year’s timing.

February 14 - Valentine’s Day has arrived. My significant male other, the distinguished company male administrator, has decided upon a romantic weekend for us. His surprise was a Friday evening through Sunday evening getaway. What a pleasure this man is and his happenings. I could easily just step right into wifedom residing with this gent. Let me not romanticize the stone to the extent of being disappointed early on. My representing intent could easily be an immediate discouragement. This would be the first time away together. I was not wishing to show over-anxiousness but indeed was physically safety prepared since I was enthralled with the coupling idea.

The early February month invite was proposed via internal office site representation. He seemed to quietly image before my desk cubicle area. He looked down to my seating level and handed me a note. As I opened the triangularly folded paper, he voiced the contents in perfect cadence. I was somewhat mesmerized by the happening and very rapidly responded in the affirmative.
