About this ebook
Daryl Talbot
I am Daryl Talbot, Cowboy/Military Cartoonist. My cartoons and illustrations are used in magazines, books, T-shirts and greeting cards. My work is seen regularly in LEATHERNECK magazine and LEANIN TREE greeting cards. I cartooned for WESTERN HORSEMAN magazine for 45 years. I graduated from Oklahoma State University with a degree in art education in 1973. I was a member of the National Cartoonists Society for several years, but now I'm a member of Cowboy Cartoonists International. In 1997 I received the Will Rogers Cowboy Cartoonist of the Year Award from the Academy of Western Artists and 1st and 3rd Place in the all Navy cartoon contest in ALL HANDS magazine in 1975. There are 4 books collecting my cowboy cartoons published by Pelican Publishing Co. and New Forums Press. After serving in the Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force Reserve, Army Reserve and Oklahoma Air National Guard and retiring after 22 years of military service, a 5th book, LAUGHING IN CADENCE, was born collecting my military magazine cartoons from '70s to '09 from New Forums Press. These cartoons appeared in LEATHERNECK MAGAZINE and SOLDIERS MAGAZINE. This book, LAUGHING IN RANK AND FILE, is my second in a continuing series of military magazine cartoons. Active duty military and veterans of all branches and their families and friends can relate to the humor. We are all brothers and sisters-in-arms regardless of the branch in which you served and share many of the same experiences. Serving in peace time and war humor can be found. I think you will find some of it this collection of cartoons. Laugh and enjoy.

INTRODUCTION
I often am asked how I came to serve in four branches of the armed forces. Well, it wasn’t intentional. It started with me attending college in a small Oklahoma town and not getting much mail. All G.I.’s know how important mail is when you
