About this ebook

Over 90 percent of West Africa's rainforests have been destroyed, and many amphibian species are on the verge of extinction. A very proactive ecologist, Gilbert Adum, and his team have been working hard to protect one of the planet's most endangered animals, the giant squeaker frogs (Arthroleptis krokosua) found in Ghana. Only twenty-eight individuals of this species are known to be existing. This book is a poetic narration of the gory tale of two giant squeaker frogs who happen to be the last of their kind. Listy and Disty were just lucky to have escaped the contamination that had just wiped out their family. But unfortunately, when they thought they had found a new home, an ugly avalanche of misadventures befalls them. Eventually, the frogs are dragged to court to fight for their natural right to life.

    FROG FACTS

    • Because frogs drink through their skin, they are susceptible to several manmade threats. In some parts of the world, frog population has declined due to habitat destruction during developments, mining activities, and the damming of rivers and streams. Frogs are also sensitive to water pollution and acid rain.

    • Chemicals, drug residues and other pollutants in water bodies appear to be causing deformities in frogs. Malformed frogs can serve as a warning that there is something contaminating the environment that might be harmful to people.

    From the misty hills,

    Listy and Disty rolled down;

            escaping the creepy contamination

               that was destroying the Frog nation.

                       Slowly, steadily, gradually;

                          moving on, holding on, one step at a time;

                          weary legs, fading breath, yet determined.

    Listy: Roll on Disty.

    Disty: I can’t feel my legs Listy.

                                             Listy: Just keep rolling brother.

                                                 Disty: I miss mother.

    Listy: Not this time Disty.

    Disty: But I miss her Listy.

    Disty: Would she come for us?

    Listy: I can’t feel my mouth.

    Disty: How did you speak then?

    Listy: Words just came out.

    Disty: Listy where is mother? Where is father?

    Listy: Disty they are gone forever, do not bother.

    Disty: No. I will bother forever.
