Poetry with a Kick

About this ebook
Don L. Brennan II
I have been writing since the age of twenty-one. I first started writing editorials for The Times Herald. Fourteen of them were published. As a writer and a profound thinker, I feel education and knowledge are easy to attain if you have half of a brain and by simply studying people. When I started this book, it was just meant to be poetry in a “new form” reality-style with a little sarcasm in a comical way. This was never meant to be a biography on DLB and co., but for some reason, it went that way. Sometimes I have a habit of running myself down when maybe I should not, like when I say I know I am nothing. I think it takes ability and talent to be a writer of comedy, reality, and fiction and then to blend it and weave it into poetry or short stories. Over the years, I’ve seen many friends come and go through the prison system, only to continue the same pattern as repeat offenders. If I did not keep my emotions in control, I would have dozens of assault charges on me for smacking the shit out of people, and I’d be put on probation for life. Years ago, when I was younger, I discovered that it’s fairly easy to correct a person with your mouth and not your fist, and it usually works for me. I am a very open-minded person who has an understanding on almost anything—except for people who kill for kicks or religion. If you are bad, then you will be corrected. If you are good, you will be rewarded. I think a lot of white-collar workers on Capitol Hill who make the “laws” really do lack common sense.

the Way It Is
– Introduction –
The poetry you are about to read is very unusual - it’s reality with a touch of comedy and drama -
Has anyone ever read poetry that is so boring you want to fall asleep Well - not here - I’m not into the big hocus-pocus - mumbo jumbo shit that doesn’t make sense -
Anyone can relate to the stories I write - from the high-class to the no-class -
The writing put before you will surely give you a laugh and a thought
– Gonzo Journalism –
– Writing –
Is a style of writing that is written without claims of objectivity - often including the reporter as part of the story - use of sarcasm - humor - exaggeration - and profanity is common - also writing that concerns itself with telling it like it is - the man who gets the credit for inventing this wild writing and bringing it to light: Hunter S Thompson—a very well-known author - Hunter is no longer with us - but his books are - I recommend everything he ever wrote
– In Retrospect –
It’s always interesting to know or have an idea of how a poem or song came to be—in other words - it’s origin - why - how come - and for who - what was the writer thinking at the time -
Was he drinking -
Was he on drugs - Or was he on coffee and a woman
Maybe the writer has a wild imagination and had some crazy events in his life - so he put paper to pen - and voilà! There you have it - a short story - whatever -
After each one I give a little insight as to how the story came to be - and that’s always interesting to the reader -
I am the only poet in history to give insight on the back of each one -
Now just for the record - at the time of everything I wrote - I was straight - hard to believe but true
– Artistic Writing –
Is like a bolt of white lightning - the backlash of absolute truth—to some it could be uncouth - it’s a dangerous commodity to your average modern society - utilizing your personal experience with raw emotion - I represent the accurate findings of human nature - in all forms - rather you live the high life or the low life - I am the reporter of a mad society gone wrong - jungle like thinking high on’s twiking - it’s guns and thugs and a nuthouse on every block - when will it stop - never not
– The Making of a Good Story –
When I’m writing a story - I like to put my personality into what I’m writing about - that’s the key to what makes it so interesting - profanity and sarcasm will pull you in dead center - direct and to the point - with no bullshit
– My Personal Opinion –
– and More –
Some of these stories are so wild and off the hook you just can’t put this book down - it’s a real page-turner - when I first started my so-called writing career - I was twenty-one - I wrote - like - fourteen editorials for the Times Herald - and then came poetry and music
– Just a Reminder –
Some of this poetry could be considered provocative and erotic - but once again it’s just meant to be humorous - do not be affended by it - I think this book is very educational - some people might even want to use it for a reference - if someone is misbehaving - bring out the poet’s book and tell ’em the way it is - I have a page for everyone - with - insight -
– An Entry Thought –
As you slowly enter the pages of this book - always keep in mind - this is the writing of a realist - an observational writer - I do tend to tell it like it is - and that could piss off a few people - maybe it takes a guy like me to spell it out - even if it ticks you off - now don’t get too upset - when you’re done reading this book - there’s a good chance you’ll have a PhD in common sense
– Special Thanks –
To all the crazy bitches who made me feel like I was crazy - You actually propelled me further with my thoughts Thanks again!
– And –
To all my close friends who knew I was a great writer - you will not be forgotten
– + –
I would like to give special thanks to the First Amendment - without the freedom of speech - this book would not be possible - Satire rules -
To the champion spellers who took the time to teach me what I could not do—spell words—thank you so much - we will always be friends
– To My Mother and Sister –
Thanks Again for
The Backup Cash
and to My Dad
Who Went to the Other Side
I Wish You Were Alive
– Self-Interview –
Born in a small town in Michigan - DLB comes from a good working family -
He is a Pisces - and Pisces tend to be real and open -
He loves to write about the world he knows and sometimes lives in -
His style of writing is unique - DLB is a realist - he likes to write about the raw things in life—subjects that your common traditional writer would steer clear of -
He is a very outspoken person in a friendly way - not the ugly way - he could put you in check or tell you off in such an effective manner that you would stop and think about it and actually thank him for being upfront and truthful to your face -
That’s the kind of quality and charisma this man has on people -
A true communicator -
The normal way of living and thinking is not his way - he likes to write in a graphic - comical way -
Now if you’re a person who claims to have seen the light - this book may not be for you -
In the name of good humor - enjoy
WARNING!
To all my associates/friends or
– whoever –
My creativity as a writer will not
Be stifled by anyone because the
Constitution of the Bill of Rights
Gives me the right to write what I want
IF
You come across a story you don’t approve of
– Why worry –
Your name is not there
IF
– It is there –
I must be saying something good about you
And from what I hear - that’s
OK

The Ghost Writer
Like the wind and the water
And the salt of the earth
I roam forever from
The womb of birth
The waters are dark
The bridges are long
Hear me now
For here I sit
Unknown to the world
Writing in vain
Waiting for my train
Will I ever be paid
Will I ever have it made
I do not know
For what I am
But I surely know
Just who I am

– Insight –
I often wonder what my goal is in life - am I the writer I think I am - hell ya! I’m the ghost writer - I have a million movies in my head
Waiting for You
The burning desire
Is getting brighter
The thought of you
To spark my fire
To lick your feet
I cannot wait
I need you now
Before it’s too late
The sway of your walk
To the way
That you talk
My timber is risin’
For all that you are
Give me your love
So raw—so true
Tell me you want me
In time I’ll come through
I’m racin’—I’m pacin’
I’m waiting for you

– Insight –
This girl was so good - almost any man or woman would say - make way - honey - here I come - I’m talkin’ meltdown city - baby! - This could be the world’s greatest love poem
Made in the USA
At one time it was
Our jobs are gone
Our days are long
Back in the day
Of the old Model A
You could truly say
Made in the USA
But that was then
And this is now
Things being made
In Ol’ Moscow
Singapore - Taiwan
Don’t forget Japan
That’s a fact - man
From the nuts
To the bolts
Do you think your
Wrench will fit
Hell no - it won’t
Metric city - baby
But the car says Chevy
That’s pretty heavy
My tools don’t fit
What the hell
Time for a fit
Who’s the man
Runnin this land
Does he give a damn
Hell no!
He gots to go

– Insight –
I was thinking about the golden days of the old USA - they’re gone - the fabric of what this country was built on is lost - when we
