    About the Author

    Saved, Sure, and Secure

    N o matter how educated and sophisticated people are, there are some elemental questions that have occupied their thoughts at various times in their lives—questions such as, Where did I come from? Why am I here? Where am I going?

    In his many years of ministry, the author has been called upon to answer hundreds of questions regarding life and the afterlife from sincere seekers after truth. With so many philosophies, opinions, and religions popping up and floating around, where can authoritative answers be found?

    Based solidly on the only infallible source of truth, the Bible, this book answers three of life’s most important questions:

    How can I be saved?

    How can I be sure that I am saved?

    How can I know that my salvation is secure?

    Those who have discovered the answers to these important questions experience a settled peace in the innermost recesses of their souls that nothing can disturb. Whatever else may be taking place in their lives—physical, financial, social, or emotional challenges—they can rest peacefully because the ultimate issues are settled.

    In the depths of the ocean, there is a tranquility that is not disturbed by the storms that are occurring on the surface. So it is in the hearts of those who have the imperturbable confidence that they are saved, sure, and secure.

    T he book you are holding in your hand contains the answer to one of the most important questions you will ever ask about life. This question is extremely important and immensely personal. It is the question of destiny: Where will I go when I die? All religions and all philosophical systems attempt to answer this question. It is considered one of the big five questions of life. Its answer holds the key to unlocking the meaning of life itself, which is another big question all people ask. Saved, Sure, and Secure deals with one of the oldest questions posed in the Bible: How can a human being become right with God? (Job 25:4). The answer to this question is found in the biblical notion of being saved. It also presupposes the most apparent truth about life: humankind is estranged from its creator and stands in need of a right relationship with God—in a word, righteousness. People need to be right with God. So what is wrong? It is sin!

    The doctrine of salvation (called soteriology) is the Bible’s teaching concerning being saved and being right with God. The Bible contains the truth about humankind’s plight and need to believe on Christ for salvation, thus becoming Christian. People who are saved are called Christians, meaning little Christs. This is because Jesus Christ is the author and finisher of their salvation. Salvation is of the Lord—the Lord Jesus Christ. Through his death, burial, and resurrection, Christ proved that he was the only one qualified to be the author of salvation. Therefore, religion apart from him is worthless. This is why there can only be one way to be right with God. It is according to His word and teaching that anyone can be certain of being saved.

    If you know Christ, this book will further equip you to share the gospel, which Christ commands all his followers to do. If you are not a Christian, then this book will provide you with all the answers pertaining to the big question, Where will I go when I die? It has been said that the death rate is still one per person. In light of this, Saved, Sure, and Secure may be the most important book you will ever read!

    With appreciation to the following people::

    Monica, my precious wife, steadfast co-laborer, greatest inspiration, and dearest friend;

    Ed Hinckley, a genuine brother in Christ who has encouraged me greatly in my ministry for many years;

    Marion Manning, whose wise counsel and editing skills were invaluable to me as I prepared the manuscript;

    all the faithful brothers and sisters in Christ who have loved me and prayed for me through the tough times and the thrilling times;

    and most of all, the Lord Jesus Christ, by whose grace and for whose glory this little book has been written.

    Author’s Note

    T hroughout this book you will notice some Scripture references in parentheses, such as the following:

    God has a lot invested in you, and He has some wonderful plans for you. He says that His plans are to prosper you, to keep you from harm, and to give you hope for the future (Jeremiah 29:11).

    You are encouraged to look up these references in the Bible and read them, as they will shed further light on the subjects being discussed. Always go to God’s inspired Word, the Bible, as the final authority on matters of faith and practice.
