Do you even consider yourself human? Mute asked her.

She couldnt respond.

Aleena was an eighteen-year-old freak. She felt like she didnt fit in her own planet as she learned the truth of how humans were reborn into earth after dying in a whole different galaxy. When her family moved to a new place, Aleena left the house to go live with her now-married older brother. Aleena is constantly being warned by her past self of a war that is on its way. Aleena is only interested in interacting with a handsome songwriter, Mute.

T ICK TOCK. TICK tock. Tick tock.

Do you really think those two will change? Aleena’s mother shouted.

Maranda, why is it that the only ones you seem to care about includes everyone other than Aleena? Aleena’s father retorts.

That isn’t true. Aleena just isn’t working like she should and she is influencing Tess to act the same. That girl barely communicates with me, or anyone for that matter!

The driver acted as though he’d heard nothing as he kept his eyes on the road. Her father scoffed, then pointed accusing hands at her mother.

Aren’t you the cause of the lack of her communication? If you weren’t so focused on that mistake Eric, then maybe she would have felt more love from you!

Me? And Eric is not a mistake. He has done everything you have ever asked him to do since the day he could speak. You’re the one who practically disowned him for not taking over your company! Because of you Aete has also left the house, leaving one decent kid! her mother explained.

The watch on Aleena’s hand moved slowly and made noise. She was silent seeing as there was nothing she could tell them to keep them quiet. She breathed in then out, leaning her head back against the chair. When did they ever not talk about her? Aleena was so used to it that she no longer cared.

One decent kid? Who? Dolly? The girl maybe somewhat school smart, but all she ever manages to show her teachers is how much trouble she could cause after being suspended for the fortieth time! Aleena’s father defended her. Aleena might seem like she lacks, but I feel there is potential somewhere in her. Those average grades can increase with some inspiration.

That’s because that’s all that girl can manage to obtain and that’s all she is ever going to be worth. Tess used to get really good grades but now her grades are slipping to Aleena’s level. Every time she gets the report card she hands them to Aleena first and receives a nod of approval. You still call that a good child?

Even with her eyes completely closed and covered, Aleena saw her mother pointing at her.

They were on their way to their new house, which was in the neighborhood where a lot of rich families were also living. Aleena had Beats clinging to her ears, with her usual black leather sweater on. The hood was extremely long in the front so no one could see her eyes or ears and most of her nose. Her mouth and chin should have been the only parts of her face that anyone would be able to see. The sweater was like a vest, so its arms stopped at her collar bone, but taking it off meant she literally had to detach it from her. It was a living and breathing sweater that Glen had given life to.

You’re only acting this way because you have been so busy trying to make amazing artists out of untalented rookies! Do you even remember the last time you actually spent time with your own family, Aleena’s mother started crying.

You are wrong about the talents of the kids I have found. They create incredible paintings that have the media going crazy, and that is attracting many important people to my company. They are the main reason that we are moving to a bigger and better place. Her father placed his hands over her mother’s.

Her mother slapped it away. Are you kidding me? My designing business, which has sky rocketed ever since the billionaire’s wife started buying my products, is what gave us the money to buy this new beautiful house! And guess what? Now that we are going to live in this new neighborhood, these three are going to school in Crimson Privy, her mother ordered.

Her father tried to refuse but she intervened. I don’t care about your hard feelings about Eric. He is still your son and he should still be a part of his sisters’ lives, and that is not something I will allow you to prevent. I have already spoken to Mark about entering them into his school as an exception and reluctantly he agreed.

Aleena’s father nodded, and that was the end of that conversation. As they sat in the back seats that went around in a circle, Tess and Dolly snored together, making the rest of the ride even more uncomfortable for Aleena.

    *     *     *

They walked in to be greeted by many maids bowing their head respectfully. They took everyone’s bags after bowing about a million times. Aleena walked in with her three suitcases in hand, only to have a persistent maid take them from her as another offered to show her around.

Aleena spoke once, Where is my room?

Her father answered, Any room you want.

Aleena allowed a maid with pigtails to lead her around, showing her all the possible rooms that could be the next location she spent all her time in. Aleena felt uncomfortable as she followed Pigtails from room to room, so Aleena finally chose a random one with one window. She didn’t unpack but took out her nightgown and toothbrush. Aleena took a shower and brushed her teeth before locking her door and going straight to bed.

When there was knocking at her door, she shouted, Leave me alone!

Whoever it was got the hint when she didn’t open the door the next four times they knocked. Aleena wanted to run to the door and tell whoever was there all of her problems but that was only a wish that may never be granted. If she told anyone, she would have to make them remember and that meant the possibility of death. As Aleena finally opened her eyes, she closed it again, waiting for it to happen, but she didn’t feel the sudden sleepiness she usually did. In fact, Aleena didn’t sleep at all that night, only closing her eyes, waiting for it to drag her away. But it simply never came.

I guess no horrifying creature’s appearing in my dreams tonight. Great!

    *     *     *

The next morning came and Aleena realized the whole time she was trying to sleep she ended up actually just staring through the ceiling and out at the stars instead. She took a shower before getting dressed. She still didn’t think to unpack her things yet. Aleena didn’t feel comfortable here. There was no noise or sound of life around here, and it only tortured her spirit even more. She didn’t like the rooms and was annoyed by the people that went with the house. Her older brother Eric would be visiting today, so she hoped that seeing him would make her feel somewhat reassured by this place and her new life here.

Both of her parents’ businesses were expanding and growing extremely famous. Both of them were now constantly being asked to attend well-known events that made them even more famous and more focused on business. At least they stopped trying to form dolls out of them after Aete left the house with Eric. Aleena thought it was better this way because at least they had something to keep them distracted. Did you see them? She sighed to herself. They are using their kids as a way to continue controlling their companies when they retired. Aleena already made it clear to herself that her parents weren’t like those of other teenagers, if that applied to her. They were cruel on a different level and sometimes tried to pressure her into losing her temper. Aleena knew that she couldn’t allow herself to lose her temper, because she would become a danger to all those who were near and held a painful past life.

Aleena heard a knock at her door, and when she went to get it, she saw her breakfast in a tray on a cart that had juice and milk at the bottom. Aleena ate and took out her phone, only to remember how she forgot to charge it last night. Aleena went through her suitcase again and found the charger at the bottom. She plugged her phone into the charger then finally decided to leave the room when she felt the need to wander.

A couple of screams caused Aleena’s sensitive ears to twitch in disapproval. Now she had her dark blue hoodie on designed the same way her black hoodie yesterday was. All her shirts had these types of specially designed hoodies to hide half of her face. Aleena had a black long-sleeved shirt under her sweater vest hoodie reaching her collar bone. Aleena didn’t look like a human girl like people would have thought. Her eyes couldn’t adjust to a sun that didn’t give as much light as her blue G-gol, so she only saw the dark outlines of objects. Without the hood, she couldn’t see the people around her.

Aleena has been like this since she was little and got into a little accident her parents were involved in. The only difference was that she hadn’t met Glen yet, who told her to rid herself of the sunglasses that wouldn’t help her see humans. The sun Duzell lived with all her life was the same sun Aleena’s eyes seemed to adapt with. The world was a dark place when she didn’t have Glen. He not only made it possible to see people through the hood, but she could also see colors for the first time. Aleena could only see the colors of her own eyes without the hood, seeing how it stood out even in the dark. They appeared extremely shocked and fascinated about her iris switching colors time to time.

Aleena remembered always feeling eyes on her when she was little because her parents used to use even her eyes to get more attention. People always believed that she was wearing eye lenses because there was no way for a person to actually have white pupils. Well, there is a first for everything. At least she believed that she wasn’t the first unusual person on this earth.

Mom! Eric said as their mother screamed in joy.

Tears came down their mother’s cheeks as she tried to wipe the new ones away. Slowly her hands reached Eric’s face and she said ever so motherly, Oh, baby, how have you been? Have you been eating? Why do you look so thin? Eric, how come you rarely call me? Didn’t you know that Mommy missed you? I missed you.

I’m sorry, Mom. I’ve been really busy. I haven’t had the time to call but I missed you too, Mom, he answered sweetly like the momma’s boy he always was.

His wife came up next to him, smiling and acting extremely nice. Hello, Mother, how have you been?

Hello, Danna, have you been taking good care of my son? Mother then hugged Danna.

Another scream came from up the stairs and everyone looked up to see Dolly rushing down. She threw her arms around Eric, crying loudly and Eric hugged her back. Aleena didn’t walk over to them; instead, watched as everything unfolded roughly as her father came out of his new study and caught sight of Eric and his wife.

Dolly was still oblivious to Father’s presences as she sniffed after each word. I thought I might never see you again. It’s been so, long Eric. Did you even think about your little sister at all?

I’m sorry I didn’t call. I never forgot about my sweet little sister. From what I heard, you aren’t so innocent anymore. Would you like to tell me what is going on with you later on? Eric was calm when handling Dolly.

Dolly only ever listened to Eric to begin with, so it was no surprise when she nodded her head. Hmm.

It’s been awhile, Eric. Her father finally interrupted their little moment.

Dolly slowly pulled away as Eric turned stiff and to their father. He nodded. Hey, Dad.

    Hello, Father, Danna added.

Hello, Danna, it’s been a long time since I’ve seen you. How is your father? Is Eric taking good care of you? Dad turned from a cold expression towards Eric to a completely calm and happy one with Danna. Please come in and sit.

We only came for a short time. I don’t think we should over stay our— Danna was already cut off.

Mother and Dolly were already leading Danna to what Aleena believed to be the new dining room. Stay a bit. It won’t be a problem and I wish to talk to you.

Eric finally turned to Aleena. He brightened as he came to her before their father could say something else to him. Eric’s arms were open but Aleena didn’t go to hug him, feeling like it would end awkwardly. She made a fist then extended it out for him to hit with his own and he smile and did just that.

Their father interrupted their little moment and said, Eric, see me for a moment.

Eric tensed up again but turned back around to their father. Aleena punched his shoulder, making him turn back to her before she spoke to her father firmly, I actually wanted to talk to Eric first. I think we need to put the hate and bitterness away for next time. Aleena turned back to Eric before she said, So let’s go talk.

Tess came down the stairs, seeing Eric, and nodded. Hey, Eric, where have you been?

    Around, Eric answered.

I got somewhere to go right now but let’s catch up later, Tess said that as she walked out the door, looking back once to wave goodbye to Eric.

Later. Okay let’s talk. Eric followed Aleena.

The two ended up in Aleena’s room and she closed the door behind them. Get comfortable.

Get comfortable? You’re not going to ask why I haven’t called or if I missed you or anything? He looked at her as if she was supposed to have asked something like that.

Well, I can only guess that you didn’t call due to Dad’s asshole of an attitude. Whether you missed me or not depends on you. What should it matter to me? I only said to follow me because I didn’t want you and Dad to start again after all these years, Aleena said, almost too calmly for him.

I guess you think you have the situation all figured out. Eric seemed angry.

Aleena nodded, That girl, Danna? You guys aren’t getting along as well as you pretend to be, am I right? It’s a fake cover, isn’t it?

Eric’s eyes met Aleena’s with shock. How did you—

She didn’t have her ring on, Aleena quickly said.

Yeah, so that doesn’t mean she doesn’t love me. Eric tried to cover up the lies they created.

"Oh please! I saw the disgusted look you gave her when
