DEDICATION
This book is in the remembrance of my late husband, Timothy L. Burno who passed away in 2011. I dedicate this book to my children, Dana M. Miller, who passed away on October 3, 2012, Scherell Seldon and Kendall Miller; grandchildren, Theresa Miller and Anthony Butler Jr.; great-grandchild, Sabriyah Miller, Dalil Washington; and goddaughter, Mrs. Gladys Pride Thompson and, her husband, Mr. James Thompson. I thank God for them being in my life.
A special thanks to my pastor, Elder Jamie Sanders, and first lady, Pricilla Sanders; Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Grant; my entire church family; a special friend of the family, Beverly McDonald; and all the staff and volunteers at the Fayetteville City Rescue Mission. These people prayed and cried with me and talked me through my sickness and struggles after the death of my husband.
PREFACE
M Y HUSBAND PASSED away on November 19, 2011. He had cancer. He did not want to go to a nursing home or hospice. I followed his wishes. After he passed, I was so weak in my body I could not tell anyone how I felt because I was so drained. I held his body out for seventeen days so I could get some strength to handle business. I broke out with the shingles on my left shoulder. I could not stop because of the shingles; I had to keep moving. I took him back to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, for a viewing and service; and then brought him back to Fayetteville, North Carolina on December 6 th for the final viewing and bu rial.
On December 12, 2011, I was in the emergency room getting a stent in my heart. I stayed in the hospital for two days. I came home to finish healing. I was home for about two weeks when I fell over the reclining chair and bumped my right knee and my groin area. Both parts swelled up and caused me painful discomfort.
This started a two and a half year roller-coaster ride of sickness. I had to get my right knee operated on because it was swelling and turning purple. They found out I had infection in my right knee. Then my left knee had to be checked for infection also. True enough, they found out that infection was in my left knee also. But my groin was still swelling. They cleaned out my right knee. They put an antibiotic stay in my left knee. Pain, pain, pain. I had to be bold and strong in the midst of the pain. All I had was the Word of God.
My scripture was Isaiah 41:10; this scripture took me through the ups and the downs. This put me in a wheelchair, and from a wheelchair to a walker, then to a cane. I thank God for the Cape Fear Valley staff for taking care of me. God bless them. The scripture from Isaiah 41:10 states,
Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee; with the right hand of my righteousness.
I was blessed just keeping this on my mind.
I had to take antibiotics for a year three times a day. God was with me all the way. When they were ready to do the surgery on my left knee, I had to have a pelvic scan to see why my groin are was still swollen. They found
