About this ebook

The title for this book was inspired by the love and protection that mothers should give to their children. Like mama birds protect and teach their young, the human race should do so much more for their children. The love and protection of a family can last a lifetime. For Sarah, that love would be tried and tested through the years with a stepfather whose physical and emotional abuse of her beloved mother would bring them to the brink of hatred. She lived with a longing to be a little girl with a real father and a passion to read like most of her friends. You will see that the simple things in life are at times taken for granted, and the simple things should be remembered and cherished every day.

    Chapter 1

I just finished a double shift at the mill, and I attempted to hurry to the car. But I was just too tired to rush. I looked at my watch and realized that I had about an hour to make the thirty-mile drive home and see the children off to school. Then I'd get into bed for a few hours of sleep, fix dinner, and start all over again. I hadn't realized how truly tired I was until I was midway through the drive home. I began to relax, and the road seemed as if it was hypnotizing me into a soft, gentle sleep. When I got home, all five of the children were all dressed and ready for school. My two teenagers were fussing over the usual spot in the bathroom. My two oldest daughters were
