Dedication
This book is dedicated to the Almighty God who has showered me with many beautiful gifts; He is my sunshine when the skies are grey (2cor4v8).
I also dedicate this book to all safety practitioners who are passionate in raising the general and occupational safety awareness of all individuals all over the world, especially in Africa.
I am also dedicating this book to the following great minds that have inspired me in many different ways from their recorded successes in their individual professions; they are a pride of the female gender:
Mrs Odebunmi Dominga; the Director General, Lagos State Safety Commission; whose work has been amazing in ensuring the advancement of health and safety in Nigeria.
• Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala
• Late Prof Dora Akuyili
• Hon Abike Dabiri-Erewa
• Erelu (Dr) Olusola Obada
• Dr Obi Ezekwesili
• Admiral Hunu Hotonu
• Madam Folorunsho Alakija
• Blessing Okagbare
Acknowledgement
Many thanks to the Lord God Almighty for the gift of life.
My dear Ayodeji, your support has seen my dreams become realities.
My lovely children, who enjoyed themselves in whatever various activities, while I write this book without much disturbance.
My appreciation also goes to my dear parents Mr & Mrs D.O.O.Obisesan (I give to them the award of the best parent) for denying themselves of life’s pleasures to invest in me and my future.
To my lovely siblings, our friends are our choices but our siblings are biological chances
, but as for me, apart from us been joined together by the biological chance if I am to choose, Olayinka, Wemi, and Temitope I would have also chosen you to be my friends, you have been wonderful. So also are Olayinka-2 and Temilola.
I would also like to thank some very special people to me; the measure of a good life is not really in its duration but in its donation; while it is not all scars that shows, it is sometimes not easy when trying to express how someone has touched our lives and has brought such happiness to it. Thank you all.
A great thanks to the founders of Open Clip Art Library Jon Phillps & Bryce Harrington, and all that have contributed to the project.

Accident
Images-1.tifIdeally everybody wishes and hopes to carry on with life and everyday activities’ with no itch at-all; however it is always worth preparing for the unexpected because anything can happen at any time.
When most of us hear the word accident, the immediate thought that seems to travel in our mind is of a car crashing into another car but it is not necessarily so. Accidents can be described as an occurrence that was not predicted which results into harm or damage to property or life and this may happen anywhere, at home, in religious places of worship, at work, at school, recreational places, restaurants or eateries etc.
Discussing accidents into details would possibly require a whole book on its own; this is because there are so many aspects of accidents but things that are common about all forms of accidents is that it may result in people be injured, temporary or permanent physical deformities or death or damage to or loss of property. There are (not limited to):
• Road accidents involve an accident that happens on the road which may possibly involve head-on-collisions of cars, or car hitting a pedestrian or object etc.
• Home accidents involve domestic accidents; most medical statistics surprisingly shows that most accidents occur in the home especially in the kitchens.
• School accidents involve accidents that occur in an educational establishment.
• Workplace accidents are accidents that occur at a place of work, be it a private establishment, government parastatals /ministry, religious workplace, farm work. etc
It is therefore advisable that you find out and make sure you know the phone numbers of accident or emergency related agencies in operation in your country or state of residence, to contact in cases of emergencies; it has been observed that most people do not even know what numbers to call for help in the case of any emergency such as a road accident, fire, flood etc.
♦ For Nigeria; You may check the Nigeria police force website to know the phone number of the police state command for where you reside http://www.npf.gov.ng Emergency contact phone number for FRSC- 0700 22553772 and emergency text only number for FRSC – 0807 7690362 (www.frsc.gov.ng) .
♦ For Ghana: the emergency number to dial in an emergency from your house phone or mobile phone is 191 and TIGO: 0277522288 - you may check the Ghana police website for more details on these numbers or any other police related details. ( http://www.ghanapolice.info)
♦ For the United Kingdom: The emergency number to dial is 999 and ask for the service you want. For example Fire, Ambulance, The Police and the Coast gurad. For medical help that is less urgent, the number to dial is 111 (England)www.nhs.uk/111 . To report crimes and other concerns that does not require emergency response, you are to call 101 (UK wide) http://www.police.uk/contact/101/
It is always advisable that if you are going to be away from your home country or your current country or state of residence for a period of time (probably you are on holiday) you need to find out the emergency phone numbers for the place you would be going into; ahead of going; this is because throughout your period of stay away from your country of usual residence, whatever happens to you especially emergency situations will be handled at the place you are at the time of occurrence.
» Before you travel away from your country of residence or immediately you arrive at the country of your destination. Make sure you go to the
