About this ebook

The past fifty years have seen a steady decline of biblical mores in the United States and much of Western culture. As if in response, the frequency and magnitude of disasters and suffering, both natural and manmade, seems to be exploding everywhere. What might this mean for you and me, America, and humankind?

Author Jay Anthony has witnessed much of the decline firsthand. In Junk Food Christianity: The Decline of the USA, the End Times, and Biblical Prophecy, he surveys numerous and often subtle ways Americans, even within many Christian churches, have strayed ever further from following Gods Word as their moral standard. As the god of feelings is increasingly celebrated and worshipped at many a pulpit and altar, Junk Food Christianity draws our attention to how God historically dealt with humankindin particular with the chosen people, when they, too, strayed from Gods Word. Discover how numerous gods have infiltrated our lives. Learn how God reacted when previous generations evicted him from their lives. What can we learn from the signs of our times? Our loving God forewarns us of an impending fate for those who choose to ignore the harbingers accompanying the decline of mores.

Are we headed for the end times of our nation, of the World? Is there any hope? Junk Food Christianity: The Decline of the US, the End Times, and Biblical Prophecy holds the key to a way out of our predicament and to saving ourselves, our nation, and perhaps life on this planet!

    PREFACE

Worldwide, the past fifty years have given rise to a shocking increase in the frequency and magnitude of disasters, both man-made and natural. Since 2008, the United States has experienced the following:

    • The worst economic period since the Great Depression

    • A devastating tripling in the national debt, which has led to the threat of the removal of the US dollar as the oil currency and which could usher in a potential worldwide depression or worse

    • A political refusal to adequately enforce the southern border of our nation even while extremists from other countries have vowed to invade and harm America and its people

At the same time, the world has experienced the following:

    • The toppling of many Middle Eastern governments, destabilizing the region and leading to the rise of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS)

    • Russia’s seemingly calculated increase in aggression against certain countries along its borders

    • The hidden dangers of a potential flare-up lurking at the Indian-Pakistan border

    • The unparalleled, rampant spread of Ebola in Western Africa

    • In the perceived safety and comfort of isolation from the physical violence and suffering, American Christian churches in great numbers remain disturbingly silent while ISIS enslaves, slaughters, butchers, even crucifies thousands of brother and sister Christians (and others) of all ages for their faith and beliefs.

This essay reflects the result of more than five decades of seeing the declining mores of American and Western world cultures and noting how God has dealt historically with humankind, in particular, with the chosen people when they strayed from God’s Word and will.

I’ve observed that during this time, we, the people of America, even within a wide range of Christian churches, have strayed further and further from using God’s Word as the source of our moral standards. The god of feelings is now celebrated and worshipped at the pulpit and altar of many a church! Along with this, we have allowed our courts, our political leaders, and our mass media to dictate more and more of what is deemed to be acceptable public morality. We have all but cast God out of our public classrooms and have substituted other gods in the void.

It leaves me wondering how long God will stand by before acting as He did earlier to get humankind back under the dominance of God’s Word and in the spirit of fulfilling God’s will. I wonder, too, if all that we are now seeing is but a contemporary round of harbingers, given by God to forewarn us of our impending fate should we not open our eyes, our minds, and our hearts to live more faithfully according to and guided by God’s Word.

    INTRODUCTION

All around us, we see the world we live in experiencing trauma after trauma. Myriad uncertainties, pains, and fears are rampant in the United States and Western nations as tens and perhaps hundreds of thousands experience, directly or indirectly, the pains and sufferings of climate extremes, pandemics, and natural and man-made disasters and atrocities. Exacerbating these, the dynamic power shifts within and among nations are happening at a historic pace! These are a few examples.

    • Record percentages of Americans (over 46.5 million people for each of 2012, 2013, 2014) depend on government food assistance (US Department of Agriculture Data, as of March 6, 2015) as welfare and Medicaid continue to expand while full-time work becomes scarcer. Since 1969 the number of dependent people has gone up over 16-fold and the total annual costs of the program have increased to 296 times the original annual cost!

    • Our government debt has essentially tripled in six years, threatening
