About this ebook

For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord. They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. In those days when you pray, I will listen.

Jeremiah 29: 1112 NLT

In a world of constant noise, it is no surprise that many of us struggle to tune in to hear what God has to say to us. Yet, God is very interested in every detail of our lives. He still speaks.

Do you believe that God can communicate with you today as He did with Eve, Abraham, Samuel, and Moses?

Do you believe that He wants to have intimate conversations with you like He had with Mary, Zacchaeus, the Samaritan woman at the well, and Peter?

Do you believe that He still performs miracles to make lame individuals walk again, as He did in the past?

In this devotional that shares personal experiences and life lessons learnt from biblical characters and nature, Ruth Pearson encourages the reader to have a more intimate relationship with Father God. Her prayer is that you will be renewed and transformed by developing your own personal relationship with Father as you listen for His voice.

How do you distinguish God’s voice from your own impressions or internal conversations? This question was answered for me in an impactful way one weekend when I attended the Overcoming Emotional Baggage retreat hosted by Gladys Famoriyo. Here is what happened.

It was the weekend of 23–25 May 2014, Friday through Sunday. I had been invited to attend as one of the speakers. As with all my speaking engagements, I asked God to go ahead of me and direct everything I said and did. This weekend was no exception. However, God was about to reveal Himself in a remarkable way, which would enhance my faith and trust in Him, and in the power of His voice, to direct us in every situation of life.

The Friday evening was an uplifting experience as we worshipped in an atmosphere of praise and petition to God. We received messages that were delivered through the spoken word and Bible verses. We were all expectant about what God would do over the weekend. I noticed that one of the attendees, Ruth, a young woman who had been in hospital during that week, had to be supported by two friends who assisted her when she sat, stood, and walked. She used a walking stick as an aid because she’d had a severe attack brought on by her lupus. I began praying at once for her healing.

The next day, as I sat at lunch with Ruth and her friends, Ruth shared her concerns about her Motability scooter, which she needed to help her mobilise. As she had started out to travel to the retreat the previous day, she used her scooter to get from her house to her car. However, when she arrived at the retreat venue and tried to get the scooter – which would take her from the car park to the building –started, the scooter would not work. As concerns were aired about how she would get around subsequently, I felt a deep conviction that Ruth would be healed during the retreat. However, before I had time to process the implications of what I felt and thought, I heard myself respond with confidence and conviction: "Could it be that the fact that the scooter broke down outside this very venue is an indication that you won’t be needing it for your return journey? I believe God is letting you know that you will be walking out of
