Born into a family of avid readers in Christchurch, New Zealand where Friday night was Public Library night and the weekend was for reading. Inspired by Pam Ayers, Charles Dickens and Kermit the Frog I’ve decided to stop chasing rainbows and build my own pot of gold in books. The joy of reading or being read a story is something every one should experience and making books accessible in this day of everything electronic is even more important. I believe reading a book teaches more than just the words on the page. For the reader and listener it can help us to find that quite safe spot while the world is rushing at us. To be able draw up the virtual draw bridge, escape into a book and fight a dragon or two is priceless. Reading exposes us to new ideas and words and for this reason I do not use simple language often found in great abundance in children’s books but real words for real people in a real world and sometimes the older forgotten words too.
