Endnotes
I dedicate this book to my parents, Stuart Duane Swenor, and JuaNita May Glaze Swenor. God chose these two to be my parents, and for that I am grateful. God destined that I be born of them, be raised by them, and that I learn from them. They taught me how to live. I have followed in their footsteps by raising my children for Jesus and teaching them to love God.
Thank you, Mom and Dad
Who God Is
When God Came Near
In the hustle and bustle of the over-crowded village
a young man and his wife seek space.
God was sleeping in Mary’s womb.
Will there be any room for God
as He enters into the human race?
When God came near, the angels sang.
When God came near, only the shepherds knew.
God was sleeping in a virgin’s womb.
The Creator of life was Himself created.
There were cobwebs and mice in his nursery.
The cows and sheep stood nearby.
When love came down from heaven
only the angels and shepherds knew.
When God came near, the angels sang.
For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given, and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end, upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, to order it and establish it with judgment and justice from that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.
Isaiah 9:6-7
(New King James Version)
Only a handful of people knew that God had come to earth as a baby that night. People had been expecting it for years, but only a few knew that this child was the One. In those days when a baby was born a choir would gather to sing to welcome the baby. But since no one in this town knew this couple, and everyone was busy with the census, God sent His holy angels to be the choir that would welcome this baby. And the angels didn’t sing to the whole town. No. The angels sang to a few lowly shepherds. God wanted the humble and lowly to visit Jesus. Yes, it takes a lowly and humble heart to welcome the King.
Father,
Thank You for sending Your Son Jesus into our world that night. Thank You for having Your angels sing. Thank You for sending the shepherds to visit the baby. And thank You for Your prophetic Word spoken by Isaiah some 700 years before Jesus came. Your Word is true to the end, Father. Thank You.
Amen

Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel, which means God with us.
Matthew 1:23
(New American Standard)
And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and He who sat on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and wages war.
Revelation 19:11
(New American Standard)
From the time Jesus was born until His death and His coming again, everything about Him is beautiful. Although Jesus’ death on the cross was gruesome, all that it stands for is beautiful. It’s love. Beautiful means having beauty
, and beauty is a quality that delights the senses or exalts the mind; loveliness.
(The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language). ¹ Doesn’t that describe Jesus? Though we’ve never actually seen Jesus, when we think of Jesus, we think of beauty and loveliness. Isn’t that what draws us to Him?
Father,
If beauty is in the eye of the beholder, then I behold beauty in Jesus. Thank You for allowing us to see beauty in Him, even in the cross.
Amen
What Did He Bring?
Jesus left His home in heaven;
angels sang at His birth:
"Glory to God in the highest!
…peace on earth."
From a cradle to a cross,
humble baby to a king,
a sinless man walked this earth,
and what did He bring?
He brought peace on earth
and good will to all men.
He brought forgiveness to a world
that was full of sin.
He brought joy where there was sadness.
He rules the world with truth and grace.
He came to make the blessings flow.
He came to show us His lovely face.
I know the peace He brought to earth,
and the good will He brought to men.
I know this forgiveness that He brought
to this world so full of sin.
I know joy when I am sad.
I know His truth and grace.
I see His blessings flow.
I will see His lovely face.
And You, Child, will be called the prophet of the Highest, for you will go before the face of the Lord to prepare His ways, to give knowledge of salvation to His people…to give light to those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.
Luke 1: 76, 79
(New King James Version)
Jesus came to guide our feet into the way of peace.
That speaks volumes. How many of us do not have peace in our lives? How many of us live with stress, depression, oppression, pain, and suffering? In the midst of all of this, we can know peace
