About the Author
PROLOGUE
"Four enormously talented actors have been nominated by their peers for their outstanding performances in a leading role. They are Daniel Day-Lewis for The Method Man, Tom Cruise for I Am Tom Cruise, Will Smith for Family Business, and last but not least, Madiba A. Rose for Great Expectations."
The nominees received a thunderous round of applause.
And the Oscar for best performance by an actor in a leading role goes to …
Silence loomed over the Kodak Theatre at the eighty-third Academy Awards ceremony. Everyone waited in anticipation for the latest master actor to be revealed and crowned King of Tinsel Town, his name forever going down in cinematic history.
For those unfamiliar with the cinema and entertainment world, the Academy Awards is the award ceremony of the entertainment calendar. Of all the award shows, everyone knows that the Academy is the only one that actually matters. Its awards are by far the most lucrative, prestigious, and celebrated awards in modern-day cinema. They are the awards that all aspiring actors and filmmakers dream of during childhood as they watch their heroes and idols flamboyantly walk on the red carpet, wearing the boldest and most eye-catching designer gowns and tuxedos money can buy.
The flirtatious vixen given the honour of announcing the leading actor was none other than the previous year’s leading actress, Sofia Mendez. Her semi-transparent Versace dress made heads turn and set minds to wondering. Her tall, sexy, curvaceous body and seductive eyes were capable of making any man forget his marital vows and fall under her charms. And the winner goes to …
she said softly as she slowly peeled back the envelope, playing to the eager suspense of the audience and fellow nominees.
Her eyes widened in shock as she peeked at the name written on the card. The winner is Madiba A. Rose.
Huge rounds of applause erupted throughout the theatre; gasps of shock and laughter sounded from every corner of the auditorium. How was this possible? For the first time in the Academy’s history, a black African man had won the coveted crown of leading actor in Hollywood. A crown many in Africa had not even heard of was now to be worn by one of their own. How had it been possible for a man who, months earlier, was practically unknown to become an instant cinema legend from his first feature film?
As an act of respect and appreciation, the fellow nominees, along with the entire auditorium, rose and gave Madiba a standing ovation as he made his way up to the stage. Time seemed to have no end as he walked, everything feeling like one long dream as numerous people came to hug him, shake his hand, congratulate him, and share in his achievements. He wore a black tailor-made Tom Ford suit that cost thousands. A good choice, he thought; it showed off his masculine physique and made his charming good looks even more evident.
After much tussling and weaving, Madiba finally made it to the stage. Kissing Sofia Mendez on the cheeks, he took his statuette from her. They gracefully complimented each other. At that moment anyone would have easily been forgiven for mistaking them for a power couple.
Madiba stood before the biggest names and faces in Hollywood and millions of television viewers from around the world. Many had no clue whom this young, sexy African man was or where he had come from; they were intrigued to hear what he had to say.
