I am just a normal twelve year old girl, I love music, I like to dance, but I absolutely love to read and write. I can block out the whole world with those two things (reading and writing). I like sports mostly basketball and soccer. I randomly sing at times and love the color red.

I’M in Love with My Stepbrother - Rickhya Ware

    CHAPTER 1

Hey, I’m Ashanti. I’m eighteen. My life has been rough. I have been bullied ever since ninth grade. My dad died, my mom left, and I was adopted three times. I had never fallen in love because I had never been to a home that long enough to fall, but that changed.

I was at the airport waiting for my foster mom to pick me up. I don’t know if she has any kids at all. I sat at Starbucks drinking a chocolate frappe when I heard someone call my name. I turn around to see my foster mom. I get up from my chair, grab my luggage, and walk up to her. She was very excited to see me. She gave me a big hug, and I hugged her back for what felt like minutes but was only seconds. We let go. She grabbed my luggage and walked to the car with me following behind. When we got in the car, we started talking.

Mom: So how was the flight?

Ashanti: It was good, but the food was nasty. I laughed at the thought. Do I have any brothers or sisters here in California?

Mom: Yes, um, you have a brother, and his name is Ricky.

After that, the ride to the house was quiet, but the quiet only lasted two minutes because that’s when we pulled into the driveway. I got my luggage as my foster mom opened the door. As I walked into the three-story house, my eyes widened as what I saw in front of me: a marble staircase with many doors, a kitchen that was really beautiful, and a living room a fifty-five-feet plasma screen TV. I was amazed. I guess it showed on my face because my mom cleared her throat and said, You like what you see? I nod my head saying yes, and I knew that I was going to love it here.

    *Ricky’s POV*

I hear my mom talking to somebody in the living room. I walk out to see my mom talking to a girl. Once I saw her, I know that was my foster sister. I didn’t know that she would be that cute. Wait, stop, Ricky. That’s your new sister, but she is just so beautiful.

    *Ashanti’s POV*

As my new mother was done talking, she showed me upstairs to my room, which was the second door to the left. As we reached the top, there was a boy coming from the bathroom with only his boxers on. My mom said this is my new brother Ricky, and he was really cute in a brotherly way.

We said hi and went on with each other’s business. My room was next to his, so I could hear everything from music to him on the phone.

As I unpacked, there was a knock at the door. Come in, I yelled to see Ricky walk in. I know this is your first day and all, but there’s a party tonight. Do you want to come? Ricky said. Depends. If you help me unpack, I can go. If you don’t, then I can’t go to this party, I said.

Then looks like I’m helpin’ you, gurlllll, he said in a girl’s voice. I laughed, and so did he. We finished unpacking my stuff within thirty minutes and had twenty left before we got to the party because it starts at eight. I started to get dressed. I didn’t know if it was casual or formal, and I wasn’t going to ask Ricky, so I dressed up in a dress that was midthigh. It was tight at the top and flared out at the bottom. The dress was purple, so I wore a pair of black Converse (not a really big fan of heels so, yeah, sneakers and Converse).

I was finished just in time and walked downstairs to see Ricky dressed in a blue-and-white striped shirt, dark blue jeans, and a pair of sneakers. Once he saw me, I think his mouth dropped open.

    *Ricky’s POV*

As I was watching TV, I heard Ashanti’s door open. I turn around to see her as beautiful as ever. My jaw dropped, but I tried my best to cover it up.

    *Ashanti’s POV*

Ricky got up from the couch and said, Ready to go? You bet, I said. We walked to my mom to say goodbye and drove to the party, which was only fifteen minutes away. Once I entered the already-filled house, music was blaring. I went to the kitchen because I lost Ricky in the crowd, most of whom were half drunk. I sat on the counter with an Arizona drink in my hand when a boy my age came up to me and asked me to dance. Yes was my answer, and he took my hand, and we headed out on the dance floor. We were dancing to every song that came on until a slow song. He pulled me close, and I felt something hard in his pants. To make it worse, I decided to grind on him. He was smiling with every move I made. Then Ricky pulls me away from him and hands me a water as if I were drunk. Why did you pull me away, and why did you hand me a water? I’m not drunk, I said. He looked mad and didn’t say anything, so I turned around and was heading back to the dance floor when Ricky pulled me again and said, I gave you a water ’cause I thought you were drunk because the way you danced on him was inappropriate, and I don’t want you grinding on anyone that you just met. Man, was he mad, but I made it worse. You can’t tell me what to do, but he’s probably gone now. Let’s go home. I stormed out of the house with Ricky right behind me. The ride home was silent, and you could feel the tension. We pulled into the driveway, I stormed into the house, changed into my pajamas, and fell straight to sleep thinking about tonight.

I wake up with a note taped to an Android phone. I read the note, which said:

Here’s your new phone. It already has my number and Ricky’s number. Have a wonderful day.

    Love,

    Mom

I smiled and got out of bed, not wanting to talk to Ricky. I jump in the shower, and the hot water felt good. I never wanted to leave, but I had to I got out. I put on shorts and a shirt that said Arizona and walked downstairs. Ricky was still sleeping, and I was glad he was. That way, I can get back at him. I got a glass, put some ice and water in it, and went upstairs. He was snoring lightly. I took the cup, went close to his face, and poured it on him. He jumped up so fast gasping and breathing heavy. I was laughing like crazy. He got up, and I ran out his room downstairs. He caught up and grabbed me. Let the tickle monster release, he said. He got on top of me and tickled me. I was kicking and throwing my hands. Ricky … I … can’t … breathe, I said. He got off me laughing. I was going to get him back. I made myself some breakfast.

Ricky came into the kitchen. Some of my friends are coming over and playing video games. Whenever you want, you can join us, he said. Sure, what time are they coming? I said when someone knocked on the door. Now. He ran to the door. It swung open to reveal four boys about his age or a year or two older. Ricky gave them all hugs. I was behind Ricky, but I sat on the couch just to see how long it will take him and his friends to notice when a boy came up to me. Hey, I’m JC. He put out his hand. I took it, and he pulled me into a hug. Soon after, every boy introduced themselves. Hey, I’m Sam Hi, I’m Kian Yo, gurl, I’m Connor. I laughed at him. Ricky seemed to have jealousy in his eyes. As the guys ran to the kitchen, I pulled Rick aside. Are you okay? I said. Yeah was his only answer. I decided that I wasn’t going to play video games with the guys. Everyone asked me why, but all I said was Just not in the mood. The reason was because I wanted Ricky to enjoy his guests without me intruding. I went up to my room and started blasting music. I was dancing, twerking, and all when a Nicki Minaj song came on. I would rap the words I knew while dance against the wall. I didn’t hear my room door open when the song ended. I turn around to see five satisfied guys including Ricky. Then I start to get comments: That gurl can work it, Connor said. I never knew a girl can dance so good, JC said. Twerk it, gurlll, Ricky said. Sam stayed quiet. Why did you guys come in my room? I said. We came in to tell you to turn the music down, but instead we saw a show, JC said. At the time, the song The Way by Ariana Grande came on. I wanted to dance but couldn’t, so I moved my hips lightly and shifted my weight. The boys left, so I turned up the music even more. I went to my window, opened it, and made my way to the roof. My only peace is on any roof of any house. I hear my music coming from the room when all of a sudden it stopped. I thought the radio in my room batteries had died when I hear someone yelling my name. I climb down from the roof through the window. Nobody was in my room, so I went to the kitchen. I walked into the kitchen to see everyone with worried expression on their faces. When they saw me, their faces lightened up, and I was attacked with hugs. I hugged each of them. What happened while I was on the roof? They all exchanged looks when Connor said, You were on the roof? Yes, I wanted to be alone out the house, I said. We thought you were hurt, JC said. I smiled. Well, as you can see, I’m not, I said as I twirled around. They laughed. I headed back to my room, and the guys went to the living room. Five minutes later, I ran downstairs, yelling, I want to go to the beach. I jumped on the couch and landed between Kian and Ricky. Ricky looked at everyone else. They all nodded. LET’S GO TO THE BEACH! Ricky yelled. I went up to my room and had a red bikini. I put on shorts and T-shirt over it. When I went downstairs, everyone was ready. We got into the small car, which could sit two people only, so I sat on JC’s lap and Connor sat on Kian’s while Sam and Ricky sat in the front. Ricky drove to the beach. On our way, one of my favorite songs came on. It was Blurred Lines by Robin Thicke. I totally forgot I was sitting on JC’s lap and was basically grinding on him. When I felt a bulge through his pants, I turned around to see his face, which was already red. Nobody noticed, so I was happy about that. I whispered sorry to JC, and his response was Don’t worry, I like it with a smirk on his face. When I turned back around, we were parking. JC’s bulge wasn’t all the way calm, so I stayed on top of him pretending that I was doing something until I didn’t feel it anymore. I climbed out. We walked the pathway and reached the sand. I put down my towel, sat down my phone and everything else, then sat down just for a little while the boys were already in the water. I get up, take off my shorts and shirt, and walk toward the water when a boy my age came toward me. Hey, my name’s Jake, and you’re beautiful, Jake said. I smiled. My name is Ashanti, I said. Want to come to a party tonight at my house? he said. Only if my brother and his friends can come, I said. Fine by me only if you dance with me, Jake said. Okay, see ya there. We exchanged numbers. He walked away, and I stepped into the water to be lifted by Kian, dunking me into the water. All the boys circled splashing water, but I escaped. Since there was so much water everywhere, I went under water and swam through an opening between Sam and Kian. I swam to shore. I got my towel and all the sand off it and wrapped it around me. The boys started coming out if the water when they notice I wasn’t there. I put on my shorts and shirt. Everybody got their stuff and left.

    *At the House*

I go up to my room, and jump into the shower. I put on a pair of dark blue jeans and a shirt that says I’m better off single, which was my
