My name is Edward Becker, and I am originally from California, the sunshine state. While my dad was in the U.S. Navy, we lived in San Diego, and my mom was a school teacher. My little sister was born there also and our family became complete. After we spent sometime in the west, our family moved to the rural state of Indiana. Here in Indiana, I have lived most of my life, and the experiences here have helped inspire me to write this book for you. I enjoy Silver Beach near Lake Michigan, and I like to take walks with my children. I also like to roam through the larger parks in the Northern part of Indiana. I enjoy the songs that nature sings, the outdoors, and the journeys I take in my free time to escape the harshness of our world.

    Chapter 1

In the beginning of the world, there was nothing but a vast darkness and a large ocean that completely covered the entire world. Waves of water smashing against nothing, just flowing, filled with energy, with a constant flow and a constant power. A larger power moved across the waters of the great deep. The world brought forth a land mass, and from the land, it began to grow vegetation.

After some time, a certain tree began to grow in the middle of a lush green field. The tree gained consciousness of the world it was living on. The tree smiled and said, The world is beautiful and thankful for the life given to it! The tree then saw hands in the sky, placing a beautiful blue star in its heavens. After the star began to shine brightly, three pink harvest moons were placed in the heavens.

The wind began to blow, and the tree felt a joy beyond words. It looked again to the heavens of its Maker and expressed how thankful it was for being given this life. The hands then touched the tree, and it began to glow brightly and with great beauty. The tree smiled and felt the love from its Maker. I understand now, said the tree. I have a kingdom to help manifest.

After the tree had done these things, the Spirit touched the tree one more time and gave the tree a name.

Yes, I understand, said the tree. Thank you for the name you have given me. My name is the Maker.

The spirit left the surface of the world, and the Maker had one more task.

Come forth, my little ones, said the Maker. I will make four clans with my roots that are in this world, and I will call this world Forest.

Out of the dirt from the world of Forest came four clans of creatures. They looked human but with a different touch. One clan has a human body with features of a bear. Another clan has human features but with that of a lion. Yet another clan has human features but with that of a fox. And the last clan looked human, but with features of a rabbit.

Go, my children, and spread among the world of Forest and reproduce children from your clans, said the Maker. I am very pleased with your form.

The tree smiled, and the clans began to move in four different directions upon the world of Forest. One of each clan remained behind to stay with the tree.

As for the four of you, I will teach you wisdom, said the Maker. I will take care of you and feed you knowledge. All I ask is that you listen with the ears I have given you.

The little children smiled and happily stayed behind as their clans continued to disappear into the great paradise, a forest created upon the world of Forest.

The children look very much human. The great bear child is stocky, with long hair upon his body. He has a face of a human with ears of a bear and a tail of a bear. The child looks as if it is brown skinned and beautiful. The great bear child has brown eyes, and he is tall.

The red fox child is shorter than the great bear child. This child has red skin and the face of a human. She has red eyes and is very desirable to the eye. She has the ears of a fox and the tail of a fox.

The white rabbit child looks human and has the face of a human. Her eyes are white, and she is also very desirable to the eye. She has the ears and the tail of a fluffy white rabbit. Like the fox child, she is petite and shorter than the bear child.

The golden lion child is taller than the females, but a little shorter than the bear child. He has golden skin and eyes, shining brightly as the blue star in the sky shines its light upon his eyes. The golden lion has short hair upon its body, and it has a human-looking face and the ears and tail of a lion.

The four children stood before the tree in their innocence, feeling the wind in their hair and the warmth of the sunlight upon their skin.

Come and sit, my beautiful children! requested the Maker. I have much to share with you.

The four children sat in the soft green grass around the tree and prepared to listen to the wisdom of the tree.

My children, my name is the Maker, said the tree with much joy in his green eyes. I am your father. I made you out of the love of my heart, and your image is what I thought it should always be. I made you to walk freely upon our world of Forest and to breed. I also made you to take care of our world given to us by my Maker, the Great Spirit, who is in the heavens.

The bear child opened its mouth, but no words came out. He looked at the tree and pointed at his mouth.

Go ahead, child! You may speak to me! said the Maker.

The bear child tried to speak again and said, Maker, what is my name?

Your name will be Bear, said the Maker, smiling. I hope you will love your name as it is given by me.

I will, Father, said Bear, smiling, with a tear in his brown eyes.

What is my name? asked the red fox child.

Your name will be Fox, replied the Maker. I love you, my child!

Her heart became filled with a deep love, and she said, I love you too, Father.

What is my name? asked the white rabbit child.

Your name shall be Rabbit, replied the Maker, a name from the love in my heart.

The young girl smiled and shed a tear from her eye, saying, I love you, Father!

The Maker smiled, saying, I love you too, Rabbit!

What is my name? asked the golden lion.

Your name will be Lion, replied the Maker. Your name will be one of honor and kingship and, most importantly, of love.

Thank you, Father. I will always love you! said Lion, smiling as the wind flowed through the golden hair upon his head.

The warm air from the sun and the cool breeze flowing from the ocean felt good upon the children’s skin. The ocean was at the east of their location on Forest.

The tree smiled and said, Children, you must never eat the fruit upon my branches without my permission. That is the first commandment I will give you. If you eat of it without my permission, it will damn you forever to death. Right now, you are eternal and cannot die by sickness or disease.

    All the children nodded.

Lion, curious by nature, asked, Why, Father, may we not eat of the tree without your permission?

He smiled, saying, Child, if you eat from the tree with my permission, you will be blessed with life and knowledge. If you eat it without my permission, you will have lesser knowledge, and you will die as the rest of your clan. It is part of the harmony of this world that you obey my commandments.

Yes, Father! said Lion, feeling goose bumps upon his skin, staring at the roots of the Maker.

Next, said the Maker, you may not breed with one another. You must breed with another from your clan and one of the opposite sex for the sole purpose of creating life. Any other acts of your breeding outside of what I have spoken will be considered dishonorable, and eternity will be stripped away from you.

    The children again nodded.

Thirdly, do not lie or cheat or kill a member of one of the four clans. You must love each other unconditionally! said the tree with a strong voice.

    The children nodded again.

Now, my little children, I will send you to your clans with a scroll from the bark of my tree to explain the things I have said here today, said the Maker as his branches brought down four scrolls to give to the children.

The children took their scrolls from the branches of the tree. The children said their good-byes and took off in four different directions to their clans.

Bear took off toward the north. His clan shall occupy the northern part of the forest. His people are better suited for the north because of the way their bodies were made by the Maker. His long brown hair will keep him warm in a cooler environment. They also have the knowledge of fire.

Fox headed to the east. Her clan will occupy the eastern part of the forest. Her people were chosen for the east by the Maker because of the skill they will have for fishing. Her clan will also have the knowledge of water.

Rabbit headed to the west toward the mountains in the forest. They are majestic and beautiful to lay the eyes upon. The clouds encircle the mountain range. Her clan will occupy the west, for they will have the knowledge of air. The rabbit clan will have a great skill in agriculture.

Lion headed for the south to live in the thickest part of the forest. The lion clan will have highly skilled hunters. They can hunt anything on the land. They are mighty in strength and quick on their feet. They have the knowledge of earth.

Now their journeys have begun. Off toward their destinies they roam.

Bear is a gentle child. He is quiet and patient. His size would intimidate a human. The other children he shared his time with around the tree were smaller, but they felt safe with him. Bear is a protector. Bear’s clan generally enjoys eating things like berries and nuts, and their clan does not generally eat meat of any kind. In Bear’s journey, he travels to a part of the forest with hills and steep climbs, which lead to higher altitude. He began to notice the chill in the air. He looked around and noticed the different types of trees in this region that are producing berries and nuts. Bear became hungry now that he is away from the Maker. His stomach began to growl.

Maker, can you hear me? asked Bear as he listened for a voice.

The wind began to blow a little from the north.

Yes, Bear, I can hear you, replied the Maker.

Bear was filled with joy as soon as heard the Maker’s voice.

Maker, Father, I am hungry, and I do not know what to eat in the forest, said Bear.

You may eat the berries and the nuts growing on the trees, replied the Maker. That is the food for your clan.

Thank you, Maker, said Bear gratefully as he reached for a berry. He plucked the berry from the tree and put it in his mouth, unsure of what eating the berry would be like. He kind of tossed it around in his mouth and noticed that he enjoyed the taste of it. Then he plucked another and another.

Careful, Bear! said the Maker. Only eat until you are not hungry anymore. Eat too much, and it will make you sick in your stomach.

Thank you, Father! said Bear as he pulled his hand back away from the berry that he was going to eat. He was not hungry anymore and decided to continue on his journey. The wind started blowing a little harder from the north, and the woods began to thin. He started to notice the farther north he traveled, the vegetation on the ground started to become smaller.

Off in the distance, he could see smoke rising into the sky above the trees and could smell the scent of wood burning.

I must be close, said Bear, smelling the air.

He could also smell the scent of the others in his clan. He started to run toward the smell. In a clearing, under a few tall trees, he saw something.

A creature was sitting on a log with a fire not too far away, trying to stay warm. The creature had pointed ears with a human face and a humanlike body just like the four clans, but the creature is somehow different. The creature looked up at Bear and smiled. It had no tail.

Hi, said the creature with a beautiful voice. Come sit with me.

Bear, unsure, walked over to what appeared to be a female. He approached her with great caution. He sat down, observing her body, and he noticed how beautiful she was. She played with her blonde white hair and stared into his deep brown eyes with her deep blue eyes.

What is your name? asked Bear, watching her carefully.

My name is Lilly, said the girl. What is your name, you handsome boy?

My name is Bear, he replied with a smile. You do not look like one of the four clans. What are you? You are a girl. But from where?

She looked up at the sky and pointed toward the moons, saying, I am from there, the one farthest to the right, the one preparing to set above the western horizon. I am what they called a Star. This is my first visit to this world. What is it called?

It is called Forest, replied Bear.

That is a beautiful name, said Lilly. Who named this world?

    Father, the Maker, replied Bear.

The Maker, she scuffed a little in her voice.

    What is wrong? asked Bear.

Where is he? asked Lilly, looking around herself slowly. She thought he might be here as well.

Back to the south, replied Bear, where I came from.

Lilly just smiled at the adolescent boy, and she scooted closer with her naked warm body toward Bear.

    Bear’s legs began to quiver.

So, boy, have you ever mated with a female? asked Lilly.

No, not yet, said Bear with a deep voice. I hope to someday.

Why wait? asked Lilly, who appeared close in age to his own. We could mate now. I would love to show you how good it can be with me.

She ran her hand up his leg, and Bear started to feel seduced. Then he jumped up off the log.

I cannot! said Bear, trying to contain himself at this moment.

Why not? asked Lilly, who also stood up to her feet, upset with Bear.

Father said I could only mate with my own in my clan, said Bear.

I am a female, am I not? asked Lilly, trying hard in her pose to show him she is a female. Do I not smell like one?

She ran quickly up to Bear and put her backside in his face close to his nose.

Yes, you are a female, said Bear, backing up, but not one from my own. Leave me be!

She started to cry, and she became upset. She started to glow a pinkish color. The wind started to blow a little from all directions.

Well, if you will not fuck me, I will have to kill and eat you, Lilly said laughing as she put her hands together as if she was going to pray.

Bear became fearful, calling, Father, what is this?

It is a Star, replied Father on the wind. She is not of this world, and she has great power. Look at your scroll in your hand and focus on it!

Bear focused hard on the scroll, and his mind became clear. Bear felt a surge flow through his body, and he began to glow with a fire aura. The scroll in his hand became a sword with fire, a sword he could wield with two hands. The sword was made from the manna of the tree that Father folded ten thousand times, sharp enough to cut through almost anything.

Thank you, Father! said Bear. What do I do now?

Here, Bear, eat this! replied Father as a piece of fruit that hung from Father’s branches descended to him.

Immediately, Bear grabbed the fruit that appeared to come from nowhere and ate it quickly. He felt a pounding in his head and began to see things and have thoughts that had never appeared in his mind before. Father gave him a skill to fight.

My child, be careful and fight well! said Father on the wind. I had not intended to give this gift to you so soon, but I have no other choice. I shall give this gift to the others as well now that I know that we have a threat on our young world.

Lilly just stood in her fighting position, laughing. You think you can defeat me, young boy?

She formed a pink ball of energy on her hand and threw it at Bear.

Bear swung his sword at the ball of energy and deflected it into a tree. Tree limbs began to fall to the ground, and flying creatures hiding in the trees flew away, screaming and howling.

The wind seemed to be gathering strength.

Lilly smiled and drew a sword from her aura. It is a beautiful weapon with a crescent moon symbol. Above the handle on this double-bladed weapon, the sword has an inscription upon it, but Bear could not read it.

Come fight me! said Bear. I know what you are now.

Moreover, what is that? asked Lilly as she ran toward bear preparing to strike him with her weapon.

A whore from another world, said Bear, laughing and smiling, awaiting her attack.

She swung her sword at his neck. Bear blocked her sword and slid his weapon down her sword toward her hands. She jumped back in disarray.

All of that skill from a piece of fruit? she said, amazed. After I kill you, boy, I must have this fruit that you know of. I will visit this father, cut down his branches, and take the fruit for my own!

You are greedy! said Bear, running toward her with his sword.

As he approached her, he swung his sword at her neck. She blocked the sword but not the strength. He knocked the sword from her hand into the ground as it stood straight up. She was in mid-flight from his first attack. He ran up to her quickly and kicked her in her back and elbowed her chest, knocking her down to the ground, with Bear landing behind her.

She was howling from the pain, lying on the ground, defeated by Bear’s attack.

Bear walked up to her with caution and with his sword ready for another attack, saying, Do you yield?

Never! screamed Lilly. You will have to kill me!

She rose slowly back to her feet.

Bear just nodded and repositioned his sword.

Lilly began to float off the ground with her hands together again as if she was praying. The dirt around her began to rise as well.

Bear took quick aim and threw his sword at her chest. Bear is accurate with his eyes. Lilly watched as the sword quickly approached her. She could not move in time. The sword penetrated her aura and went straight through her chest and out her back. Her pink blood began to spray all over the ground below her. She fell from the air back to the ground in her own blood.

Bear’s sword, covered in her blood, landed in a tree behind her, with the sharp end in the tree. Bear stayed back away from her, watching her, pitying her. Bear walked over to the tree to pull his sword out. Bear then proceeded to walk over to Lilly as she gasped for air to breathe and coughed up blood.

Are you happy? asked Bear. Is this what you wanted? I regret this meeting with you.

Lilly looked up at him, laughing, while choking on her own blood.

It’s okay. She smiled. I guess you just do not do it for me.

After she said that, her head just tilted to the side and she took her last breath. Lilly was dead. Bear sat there and just stared at her dead body.

Why did she come here? thought Bear aloud.

She came here with her hate, replied Father on the wind. Her intention was to kill and devour you. Her kind eats the living and consumes their blood.

Is anything she said true? asked Bear, closing his eyes.

Yes! said Father. She came from the moon that set over the horizon. They just arrived there.

I see! said Bear. What shall I do with this one?

Bury her body in the ground here in the forest, said Father. It is not time for the clans to find out about this yet. I hope the other three will not have to contend with what you just went through.

Thank you, Father, for your help! said Bear, opening his eyes.

Bear began to dig a hole in the ground so he could bury the fallen one. He continued to think about the battle and how much he regretted killing her. He knew it did not feel right, even considering what his commandments are. Killing another creature like our own feels so wrong. Eating a creature in the sea is okay. Eating a flying creature is okay. But killing her made me sad, he thought.

Bear is a quick digger, and he finished the hole. He picked up her body off the ground and laid her into the hole gently. He then covered her body with dirt. After the hole was filled in, he picked a flower nearby and laid it upon the dirt.

I will never forget this Lilly, said Bear as he walked away toward the burning wood and the smells of his clan.

The red fox began her journey from the Maker, traveling to the east toward the great ocean where her clan was. The wind smelled good, and she could smell the ocean upon the breeze to help guide her on her journey. She continued down through green hills, in between thickets of forest.

The land to the east is a beautiful contrast of forest thickets and open grassy planes. She had her scroll in her hand. She looked around a lot, seeing the different plants and observing the different creatures that
