About this ebook

In this series of short stories, each one incorporates an individual plot within the fictional genre. Jellyfish Scars pulls the strings of the heart, while Healing Water leaves a lifetime worth of mystery. Lastly, The Comare incorporates the unnerving, with an Italian edge.

Sara Erlichman

Sara Erlichman is a 2014 graduate of Virginia Wesleyan College earning a Bachelor of Arts in Communication. JELLYFISH SCARS

Of all the scents in the world, there is not another scent that compares to that of the ocean. Nothing is greater than waking up to that aroma, which revitalizes all senses from the drowsy state of slumber. The plan today, is the same as yesterday. Running along the beach for a while, I then take a nice swim in the ocean to the big red buoy. Swimming. If there were one thing I could do in my life before I died, it would be to swim in the ocean. Sure I have done it a million times, but it is worth it. This is the only place where I open my thoughts, my mind, and my emotions, ever. Since I learned to swim it was my only craving and later, my lifeline.

The routine is usually a morning and night workout. On the way to work I run into Gabriela.

Hello, my love! Happy birthday, Gabriela says with a giant hug.

    Thanks, Gabriela.

Another wonderful year of life, and more to look forward to, she said half to me, half speculating possibilities of the future.

    Yea, another year, I echo.

As most days go, work all day and a homemade dinner are also routine. Such meaningless days. But why? Because I lack the social life of a typical young woman? Maybe, perhaps, but I prefer it that way.

Running from the house to the shore, I am anxious to swim tonight. After all, it is a special day. My speed is slowed down grudgingly when reaching the sand, but still I am determined to dive into the water and swim for hours. The first wave that hits is the most chilling and revitalizing feeling ever. If only the world was like an ocean; silent, clear, and beautiful. With every stroke and kick, I propel myself towards the buoy. All the memories of my family and life run through my head, giving me sharp little tingles from my emotions down to
