I. FAMILY POEMS
Walt Disney
He was father to the characters we all love Created
through inspiration from above.
A benevolent man appearing on T V.
Who reigned over a make believe reality.
We grew up with Mickey, Donald, and Goofy too.
Morning cartoons were fun for me and you.
The Plausible Impossible seemed so true.
Hey, I believed them. So did you.
Hey, Pluto
, became familiar words to us.
We loved how Minnie made Mickey blush.
Goofy’s lucid explanations superseded expectation.
We became a nation of vivid imagination.
Walt’s imagination spread far and near.
We became members of that club so dear.
The one where we wore big ears
And called ourselves Mouseketeers.
Zorro seemed real in cape and mask.
The Z is what we loved to see.
We all rode with him in his disguise
He sought to bring justice to the countryside.
Sleeping Beauty and Snow White are real to me.
After all they live in castles you can see.
So are Daniel Boone and the pirates of old.
I know that’s true. I’ve seen his frontier and their gold.
Walt Disney’s kingdom still stands today In a special place adorned with his name.
The things mentioned above are still the same.
You can enter this magic realm any day.
Really nothing has changed.
The people today are different.
The characters remain the same.
Only one man has Walt Disney’s Name.
Amelia Earhart
Oh Lady, Oh Lady where have you been for so long?
Into the hearts of many you have landed your charm.
Time has not forgotten its heroine, This is your song.
You attempted to fly where no woman before had ever gone.
And succeed you did on beyond the intended goal in mind.
Enduring in our memory, your incomplete journey lasts through time.
Around the world we are all still in wonder of your legacy.
About a great American heroine still shrouded in mystery.
In your Lockheed Electra America flew beside you with pride.
We all marveled at that unshakable courage you had inside.
You have made us proud, and so in this song we sing out loud.
Come fly again. Fly high forever into the silver lined clouds of our minds.
You are The Flying Queen who will never be forgotten by us.
Fly on. Fly on, Oh Woman of Greatness, with courage and love.
In our hearts and minds you are always arriving on time.
We give tribute to a rare woman of valor with qualities of a star.
Who reached her destination in history and left us all better by far.*
Einstein Or Dr Seuss?
I am trying to decide who is the Best is!
Is it Einstein is? or Dr Seuss is?
It is a dilemma you see.
Do I count imagination too
Or just what you see?
Logic will take you from A to B to C.
The Cat will teach you the A,B, C’s.
I think they wonder and both think
What color is under the kitchen sink.
If the true sign of intelligence is not Knowledge but imagination then, They have both expressed equally On beyond the ordinary we z.
Their genius starts, when ideas start flowing.
When their ideas stop flowing,
Then their genius stops going
Until they start up again knowing.
If succeed they want, then succeed they will.
They live as though all things are miracles still.
Live they do not like miracles they have not.
They both seem to know what they want to know.
They can take you to far off places you want to go.
Things get better because they care a lot more.
Keeping things simple both ideas and words, They take us where we will not get bored.
That’s the trademark of their genius underscored.
Einstein we know loved to write many notes in a book.
Seuss wrote many books that we note are loved.
I am glad their imagination comes a little at a time.
Who could handle the math and rhyme,
If it came all at one time?
When Seuss is rhyming and Einstein is equating An hour seems like a second.
When Seuss is equating and Einstein is rhyming A second seems like an hour. That’s Relativity!
Where is it we really want to be?
As far as the thoughts of these greats
Refer to reality, they are uncertain.
And as far as they are certain
They do not refer to things of certainty.
One thinks that what can be counted
May not always count.
The other does teach us how to count.
I am a believer in the good they both can do.
They have created a better world for both me and you.
One may change the theory to fit the facts.
Not to be out done is one who changes
The facts, so they may fit the theory.
Does this always apply, you may query?
Well, I have had my say
And fun along the way.
What do you say?
Which one is on top in life’s game.
I think they are differently the same!
If you’re not sure, you can ask today.
Just go hop on pop!
My Real Life Stars
This is a poem that can’t be topped.
You have to hear it without a stop.
Words come out they won’t wait.
The subject matter is just first rate.
In this poem I do not hesitate
I have tried not to bloviate.
Writing this poem must be fate.
It has never been done before this date.
There were two boys I used to know
Now young men really on the go.
Both very clever this is for sure
I love them so much close to adore.
You tell me there is only one sun.
But in my world there are two.
They brighten my day in a double way
As I see it from a Dad’s point of view.
Take it from me someone in the know
These are my sons Stars in my show.
I got tickets for a front row seat.
As life’s movies go this can’t be beat.
I’d ask you to join me if I could.
Admission is limited to a special few
To the people whose lives they touch
With their unique talents as such.
If you are fortunate to know them too,
I commend you part of the selected few.
Being around them I always feel new.
No better thing in life do I like to do.
I could go on till the moon turns blue.
Oh why not there’s nothing better to do.
Don’t worry you will be out for dinner.
If not you’ll be like me a lot thinner.
An idea for them is easy to jump start.
What I say comes from my heart.
These two are surely the main part.
They always have been from the start.
Now to see them I take non stop.
Once they were as close to me
As a skip jump and hop on pop.
When they sat on my knee.
I used to read them stories at night.
Now I write them poems in daylight.
What I say comes from my heart.
It helps me stay close when we’re apart.
In this poem is spent special time.
Care has been given for fine rhyme
For two handsome sons of mine.
I will always love them for all time.
Captain Video
Impressed upon my young mind
Was this first series of its kind.
I quickly adorned my special suit
In time for my Video Ranger pursuit.
The idea of space travel was new.
I volunteered for something to do.
Even though I was only seven
Blasting off for space we flew.
I played Captain Video well
It was real anybody could tell.
Upholding truth and justice for you
On planets was what we would do.
I remember well for the first time
On the scene a real Robot
