This book is dedicated to my charming sons Akeem and Joshua. Continue to strive for excellence, knowing that you are able to achieve whatever your minds can conceive. Mr and Mrs Thomas were proud farmers. They raised domestic animals and planted various food items to support their small family. The major earner and most important crop for the Thomas family however, were their yellow yams. Mr and Mrs Thomas lived in a tiny board house in a town called Edgeware, a small and friendly community. Every morning the couple would awaken at 5:00 o’clock, which was when their star rooster would start to crow. They could always depend on him to get them up in time.
image003.jpgMr and Mrs Thomas had one son and they named him Johnny. Mr Thomas always had big dreams for his son. If I could just save up enough money from selling these yellow yams,
he said to himself,
I would be able to send my son to a good school.
I don’t want him to struggle the way I did while growing up and still struggling in my old age." While he was thinking about his son’s future, his wife was busy preparing for her morning chores.
Mrs Thomas hurriedly washed her face and headed to the tiny zinc structure outside the house used for their kitchen. Even though they did not have many fancy things like the other families around town, she was always thankful. Every morning she would hum a happy song while preparing breakfast, and she always wore a smile.
What are we having for breakfast this morning before we head to the farm, honey?
asked Mr Thomas.
