    Abused Men

I N A GRADE so young my friends and I could hardly recall the days of grade school when growing up. If there was anything that played back in our minds, it would be witnessing firsthand how women and mothers were being abused in their homes by violent men as they lived in the neighborhood, leaving these boys and other friends with a sick feeling over the years.

These past acts would play back in their minds time after time; so much that they gave their word to treat women with love and respect.

Little did these boys know after growing up and becoming men that things had changed with women in today’s face pace society.

Never would the men would have thought for one moment that women would have abusive behavior toward men, carrying out acts of physical, sexual, emotional, and verbal abuse against men. Leaving many men no choice but to walk out of their home, leaving their children behind.

    Chapter 1

REMEMBERING THE PAST BEFOE THE CHANGES

A FTER YEARS IN college today Rav sits in his parents’ home waiting to attend his graduation ceremony. As thoughts of the past goes through his mind, he has no regrets of living on the university campus and not getting many breaks to come home to see family, and his friends he grew up with.

Now that going to college is over, he hopes to catch up on everything he missed while being a fulltime student and is now receiving his degree.

Relaxing on the couch with his gown on and his cap in hand, he begins to think about the days when he was a boy growing up in grade school.

He stares out the window into the street at the houses his friends’ parents once lived in, and then he gets up and makes his way outside.

Walking down the driveway looking at each home picturing the ill-treatment the women, the mothers had to endure doing that time in his life as a young boy.

Remembering how these women would run out the front doors of their homes hoping someone would help them; if help didn’t come they would make a mad dash to their cars hoping to get away from the abuse of a man that lives in the home.

Looking around the neighborhood, he shakes his head as he gives thoughts behind the visions of the past that goes through his mind.

His dad stood at the front door of his home watching his son and he knows he was thinking about the days when he was young.

He gives his son a moment to himself before going out to join him.

When he approached him at the end of the driveway, he asks, Son, you thinking about the times when you were a small boy, how you used to play up and down this street, and many times up to midnight then I had to come and get you to come in.

Rav smiled but because he didn’t want to tell his dad what was really on his mind or what he was visioning at the point and time.

He didn’t want to bring up the past so after a few words outside they returned back in the home with laughter.

Rav closed the front door behind his dad as his mother appears from her room looking beautiful as ever she blurts out with a smile, I’m ready, is everybody ready to go!

His dad stands at the front door beside his son. He looked at his wife with a smile all over his face!

Then he walks up to her and gives her a kiss before going to get the other kids from their rooms so that they can leave.

Rav had a big grin on his face as he tells his mother how beautiful she looks, letting her know how he hopes the woman of his dream has the same beauty and values when he gets married.

Once everyone was in the front room, Rav lets his family know it is time to go get his degree and opens the door for his mother and the family followed as his dad locks up.

His dad waited until everybody was buckle up before pulling out of the driveway, he blurts out, Are you ready son?

Rav who is enjoying the moment in return, Yes dad, I’ve been waiting on this day for a longtime, let’s go….

Once the family arrived at the stadium, several of Rav’s family members were there to support him. They all approached Rav, giving hugs as well as congratulating him!

He greets each family member and friends with a conversation and smile but there were three people he was really looking for.

These three people were best friends he grew up with in the neighborhood.

Wondering if one good friend will show up and give their support what’s going to be one of the most important days in his life.

After looking over the crowds of people and not seeing them in sight, second latter two of the good friends approached him from behind, surprising him.

The men had big grins on their faces when, and when Rav turned around he couldn’t believe they it was two of the good friends remembering the date!

Kelv and Rod, Rav blurts out with excitement given each other out of control hugs!

He takes the guys over to introduce them to his family who they had not seen in a longtime, especially his mother and father!

Before Rav had to leave for his graduation ceremony, the three of them begin to have a brief conversation on their own.

Rav asks the question about Rick and why he wasn’t here at the ceremony along with the two of them?

Kelv and Rod stood there avoiding the question…then Rod said, Look let us…huh take you out for a celebration dinner before you spend time with your family and that way we can catch up on some things not everything… but huh some…okay.

Rav gave a quick okay before running off to get in line for the graduation ceremony.

Everyone was sitting, waiting on their child’s name to be call so that they can give a shout out, congratulating their family member as he or she walk across the stage.

    Rav name is called.

The family stands up and cheers with his mother leading the way.

Moments later the graduating class has thrown their cap in the air to show they have received their college degrees.

The graduates walk out, everyone was outside laughing, talking and given more hugs with the congratulating class.

A graduating classmate came over to tell Rav he was having a party tonight and he should stop by sometime to night.

Rav thought it was a great idea to stop by later on tonight after spending time with his family. While standing out in the parking lot, Rav asks his parents if it’s okay to spend some time with his two best friends before going home and joining the family.

His mother listens to the unexpected plan, thought about before responding, "Go ahead with your friends but make sure you join the family later.

With the okay from his parents Rav takes off his gown and gives it to his father before getting in the car with Kelv and Rod.

When the guys left the parking lot and drove further down the street Rav brought the question again, So guys, Rick didn’t know about the graduation…you guys didn’t see him to tell him about this day?

Kelv nor Rod didn’t react once again to the question right then.

They where try to decide on a good eating place.

Rav who is riding in the back seat notice no one said anything again, so with a bizarre look he sits back in the seat very calm and he uttered, Is anybody going to say anything by answering the question I just ask.

Rod turns around and looks at Rav, Rick got himself in a lot of trouble when you went off to school; he’s been gone about the same time you were gone so let’s leave it at that and enjoy your day Rav, it’s your day.

Yeah, when I heard about it, I wanted to go see him but I got my own problems, Kelv said as he drove in the parking lot of the restaurant."

Rav sat motionless as he turns and looks out the window of the car… thinking, Oh well….I mean we make our own choices right guys, so let’s go eat.

Walking in the food place after hearing the news about Rick they decide to change the subject and talk about something other than Rick’s problem.

While being seated at their table, Rav is excited to know what his friends have been doing before they lost contact.

So what’s going on with you guys, he asks as the walked to there table

Rod opens the menu before answering, I’m married…but no kids yet, I was able to get a good career job with a firm without going to college but I know going to school will be needed because as we all know the time changes and I must be prepared for that.

Rav gives him eye contact, smiles and said, So you got married and told no one, you didn’t invite me to the wedding!

It wasn’t like that, she wanted a courthouse marriage just me and her, just like the honeymoon, me and her Rod said with a great big grin as he thought about the honeymoon!

Rav smiled back but ask again, No friends…no family at the courthouse wedding…just you two?

Rod is still remembering that day, Yeah just me and my beautiful wife!

So how long have you known her before getting married, Rav asks as he closed his menu?

Rod wasn’t so fund of that question but with pleasure he answered, Love at first sight baby, we were made for each other, she stays home and take care the home…that means who ever in the house which is me, she takes care of me… if know what I mean.

He laughed after that line; Rav did the same but with smirk!

By the way, I have a boy and he looks just like his mother Joyce, Kelv added with a smirk on his face when butting in on the conversation as he begins taking out a picture of his boy!

Rav looked over at Kelv surprised.

He smiles and asks, Is that the same girl you met in college your first year as freshman?

The guys begin ordering their food before looking at the picture Kelv’s picture.

So did you get married like Rod and Rick and didn’t tell nobody? Rav asks as he gives the menu to the waitress?

Kelv gives him the picture of his little boy.

Rav takes the picture, looks at it and smile, Hey man he’s a beautiful boy…how old is he?

He’s six, the proud father said!

Rav puts the picture on the table and asks again, So Kelv did you and Joyce get married since you guys had a child?

No man I’m not married, you know she keep saying when the time is right but we are still together raising my boy I stay with my mom for right now until I get a better job then maybe we can start living together first then get married in the future, Kelv explains as he tries to convince Rav that things are okay.

Rav sat back in his chair before asking, Did you finish college?

Kelv didn’t bat an eye, Look man I did two years and tried to go pro and when I didn’t make it, she wanted me to go to work and helps take care of my kid so I had to get out and get it.

Rav was at a loss for words so he decided to leave the issue along, Anyway you guys are treating your lady and wife with love and respect…remember the promises we made growing up after seeing women being abused in our neighborhood.

The waitress begins putting their food on the table, Kelv said, Yeah man but today’s women are different from the mothers in our days, they are more aggressive now.

Rod quickly takes side with Kelv on that statement by saying, That’s true man…in both the home and workplace.

Kelv wanted to know what was Rav next move so he asks, Rav so what’s next for you?

Rav thought about it, wipes his mouth and said, Job, marriage, and family, in that order and why I’m on the path…I’m putting god first.

Kelv shakes his head in agreement as they all continue laughing, talking, and eating while time past.

Looking at the time Rav was ready to go spend time with his family before going to his classmate’s party.

Kelv took Rod home first then drop Rav off at the house after saying goodbye.

Night came and Rav has had a full day of enjoyment with his family and friends’.

Feeling on top of the world he was ready to go to his classmate graduation party.

He called Rod to see if he would go with him because Kelv had his little boy. He feels it would be wrong to ask him to come back out.

Rod told Rav he would call him right back. He needs to first discuss it with his wife to make sure it’s okay.

Rav agreed to wait on the phone call.

Rod hung up the phone, his wife Ann was standing behind him smiling. Hi honey…asks me what, what do you need to ask me?

Rod jumped when he heard his wife’s voice. He didn’t know she was behind him as he looked at her for a moment.

Hi honey, that’s was my longtime friend the one who just graduated from college. Well he wants me to go with him to a party so that he can have someone to drive him home in case he celebrates too much, said Rod with a smirk on his face as he tries to play it off.

She looked at him and smiled, didn’t give him an answer right away then she told him, Sure that’s what friends are for to help out; I don’t see why you can’t go honey.

Rod wasn’t sure what she meant by that but took the yes and ran with it

He gives her a kiss and heads towards the door.

She grabs him by the arm and asks, You need something before you go to keep your mind on your wife at all times.

She takes his hand and goes over to the couch letting him get his touches in (sex) before going to the party. She doesn’t feel save letting her man go out to a party and his needs having been taking care of.

She wanted to make sure he leaves the house with her smell on so when he comes back she wants to smell that same scent.

Moments later after all that… while in his car he rushed to call Rav and tell him he’s on his way. Once they arrived at the party and although it was late the party was still going strong with plenty of people partying and from the looks of it they weren’t planning on going home soon.

Rav college friends came over to say hi along with other friends as well.

Each person introduced themselves as Rav introduced Rod.

Once that was said and done the college friend who invited Rav told him and Rod to enjoy the rest of the night.

After the introduction was over, Rav looked across the room and saw one person that stood out; in his eyes she was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen.

Rav and Rod walked around talking to everyone as they meet new people.

Then Rav finally decided that he wanted to go back and find the woman he saw earlier.

He wanted to sit and talk with her. He wanted to at least get to know her before leaving the party

He went back to the location where he first saw her sitting and there she was still sitting. Rav walks over and asks if he could sit on the opposite side of her.

She gave a suspicious look, knowing he wanted something so she said, Sure I don’t see way you can’t, plus my girlfriend hasn’t come back yet.

Girlfriends as in lover, Rav asks with a slight grin!"

She laughs and said, "No, girlfriend as in she just graduated and I came with her to the party.

Oh well she a classmate because I graduated tonight as well, said Rav as he takes a seat.

Oh well my congratulation goes out to you as well, she said,

Once Rav saw the smile he knew that was the green light to continue the conversation, he introduced himself.

She looked over at him gave him a chuckled because she knew he was going somewhere with the conversation and repeating his name, Okay Rav, I’m Kim.

Rav was excited but didn’t show it as he asks Kim if he can get her something to drink or eat!

She said, No my friend and I are getting ready to go unlike you and your friend who is just getting here.

He notices that she was getting comfortable with the conversation they were having. He feels that it will be a good time to ask for her contact information before she leaves.

She went from smiling to laughing; calling his name as he continues to joke around with, saying funning things.

Rav felt that meant something and that was good because she wasn’t looking around for her friend or talking about leaving again.

After talking and laughing, it was very late.

That’s when Rod came over and asks Rav if he was ready to go.

Rav was full of laugher as he looked up at Rod knowing he wasn’t ready to leave.

But he didn’t want to disrespect Rod nor his wife.

He asks Kim for her contact information before saying their goodbyes.

After the exchange the love bug hit Rav, he is love struck as he gets in the car to go home.

Rod couldn’t get enough of him talking about the women he just met at the party.

Once Rod drop Rav off, he pulled up in his driveway, a light was on, the blinds moved as if someone was looking out of the window.

Rod watched as he turns off the car lights; he opens the car door and walks towards his front door of his house.

Behind the white fabric that hangs in his window was a shadow of a woman’s figure.

He opens the door and saw his wife standing in the middle of the floor with nothing but a t-shirt on.

With great concern before he could take two steps in the house she begins taking his shirt off, finishing up were she left off before he left for the party.

She wanted to see if some other woman has been touching his body, if her scent was still on him. She asks him, Did you see something you like at the party?

She stands in the front of Rod as she moves her nose up and down his neck on his chest smelling him in a sexy way.

Rod though it was a sex crave, he didn’t know what she was really doing.

She stands in front of him and takes her t-shirt off leaving her completely nude then licks him to see if she can taste another woman’s lipstick left from the kisses she gave and dancing so close to him.

She touches his body all over unzipping his paints going down smelling touching to seeing if there were any marks that would show evident of him messing around.

Rod was getting very excited as his wife stands in front of him naked with her beautiful body, touching his body along the way. He picks her up, looks her in her eyes and says, No honey I didn’t see anyone as beautiful as you.

She rests her head on his chest as he packs her upstairs to their bed.

Morning came and Rav slept in late.

It was just before noon, he was very tired from the party.

He walks into the kitchen and notices there is no smell of fresh breakfast.

Walking by the stove remembering how his mother used to come home from work every morning to make breakfast for his father and anybody else who wanted to eat.

He takes a big yawn as he sits at the kitchen table putting his hand under his chin thinking before grabbing the newspaper and saying, It’s much better to look for a job today than it was six years ago without a college education, he added as he open up the paper, "Now I can go to the section that requires a college degree and look for a career jobs.

Rav had an idea of what type of job he wanted.

A job in retail management, a company he can grow with by taking the time learning more about the company.

While flipping through the paper, he took a moment to think about the party last night and the beautiful person he met.

He takes out his phone turns to the information she gave him but he didn’t call feeling he shouldn’t call until he gets some type of job and some transportation, until he gets on his feet.

Later that evening when his dad came home from work, he asks his dad if one day this week they could go out to find a used cash car.

A car he could afford to pay the money back when he gets a job.

His dad was okay with that, letting him know he will leave work early one day so that they can go looking for the best used car.

Rav rest all day that day but at the same time prepared and wrote down what jobs he was interested in.

The next thing on his list is to ask his mother if he could use her car when she comes home from work so that he can go out and check on the jobs he had listed.

His mother was okay with that since her other children were gone away for the summer and she didn’t really need the car at the time he needed to use it.

Days went by since the graduation and as the first week past it’s another Monday morning.

Rav was up early with his dad talking about what his plans were before he went to work.

While talking Rav begins to make breakfast before his mom comes home from work.

The front door open and it’ was his mother; Rav comes out of the kitchen with a smile and says, Hi mama!

Good Morning son, something smells good in here, his mother replies with the sound of being tired but is able to give her husband a kiss.

Rav smiled and said, "Yeah, mom I’m cooking breakfast for you and dad before he goes to work.

His dad picks up his cup of coffee and said, I’m calling this cup of coffee breakfast son, as he gets up, See you guys later I must get to work, oh…and I might be home early so that we can go look for a good use care son Rav.

Rav walks him to the door and said, Okay dad I’ll be ready.

After his mother sat down, she waited for Rav to come back to the kitchen.

Once he returned she said, Well here are the keys, I’m going to bed, I’m going to take full advantage of your sitters and brother not being here see you later and good luck.

Okay, as he takes the keys.

She then walks to her bedroom.

He then makes a plate for himself, trying to put as much on his plate because he made so much food.

Before getting ready for his first job search since being home, Rav feels very confident that he will find something in his profession.

Before leaving, he pulls out his notes to see what will be the first company.

His first stop is a retail store for children, doing his research, he loved what the company stands for and the positions they are offering therefore making this company his first stop was a good choice.

Once all cleaned up, moments later Rav was out the door and pulling in the parking lot of the retail store.

He walks in with his confidence high.

It was as if he has this job in the bag.

He walks in by passes the retailers on the floor and heads to customer service.

The lady at customer service greets him with a smile, and then asks how she can help him!

I’m here for one of the positions you have advertised, Rav counters with the sound of encouragement!

She asks him if he would go over to one of the computers and put his information in the she will talk with him when he’s finished. But before he left the counter, she asks, Which position are you applying for?

Rav gives her eye contact and with a big smile said "I’m looking at the retail manager positions but I’m willing to start anywhere in the company as long as there’s room for growth and I feel this is a good company I can enjoy growing with.

Right off the bat she liked Rav’s approach and felt he may fit into their program but to verify she asks him how far he has gotten with education.

Rav smiled and was glad to tell her that he just received his college degree in business management and is ready to put it to use!

She wastes no time telling Rav that she is the store manager and there is an assistant management job available.

She also tells him he would fit right in with what the company is trying to do for the future.

After completing the information on the application and she looked over, she feels most likely he will get the job.

It’s just that for now she has to look at more applicants but she tells him she will give him a call at the end of the day.

Rav left the store very happy; he didn’t go straight home to tell his mother instead he went over to a dinner to get some coffee since he had time.

He wanted to take a moment to just thank god for everything.

Sitting for a moment very excited, he begins to look around as if he wanted to tell someone.

He pulled out his cell phone and calls Kim the woman he met at the party. He feels now that he thinks he has a job he can concentrate on his personal life starting with her.

The phone rings, Rav didn’t know what time she goes to work nor did he ever asks what type of work she does.

She didn’t notice the number because there was no name on the screen, Hello, to whom I’m speaking with?

Rav was surprised to hear her voice but couldn’t let her hear it in his voice, Hello, its Rav…we met at a party about a week ago.

"Oh, okay…I was wondering when I would get a
