    PROLOGUE

    In my dreams forever.

For a week or two, I pray

that I get to spend with you

    three or four whole days.

I also pray that the sunshine will hold

    for three or four days,

as I make my way back to our home

    and back to you.

For us that is not enough.

Not enough of you for me.

Not enough of me for you.

For the last four hundred miles I have seen

    miles upon miles of green,

    gold and light brown fields,

    and stately farm houses.

    The road ever upward.

    The hill always rising

    until I reach the top

and then the peaks of the Rockies

    appear in front of me,

left to right as far as I can see.

The sun is up in the east as I head to our house.

The painted white dashes lead the way,

and mark the road to our home

where we live and pray, and plan to stay.

I chase the shadow of the truck down the highway.

There is not a care in the world going my way.

I am anxious for the moments I have missed,

and anxious to be by your side,

    to share your loving kiss.
