    Family Secrets - Angel Braham

    Chapter One

    Let the church say amen

    Amen

I say let the church say amen again

    Amen!

Pastor Jones finished his message the same every Sunday. He was a young dynamic preacher well known in his community and well respected. He and his wife were the picture of what everyone thought to be the perfect couple. Mrs. Jones his wife was a young 27 year old minister of music for the church. Everyone thought she was the perfect match for Pastor Jones. She was quiet, submissive and not to mention beautiful to look upon. Mrs. Jones was about 5’6" tall, petite build, light skinned with shoulder length wavy hair. She supported her husband in every aspect of ministry. A marriage like theirs was the desire of every couple in town.

    Chapter Two

Mrs. Jones lay sobbing on the bathroom floor as she begin to make efforts to stop the bleeding from her nose. She crawled to the toilet paper dispenser and grabbed for a hand full of tissue as she begin to clean her nose and the blood spills from the floor. When she had finished she picked herself up off the floor and locked herself in the bathroom where she would spend the next few hours praying to God for direction. The bathroom became Mrs. Jones secret prayer closet. It was the only place she could release all of her feelings without being interrupted.

The next morning as Mrs. Jones lay in bed her husband awoke her by kissing her on the cheek.

    Honey he said.

    Hmm

I’m sorry about last night, but sometimes you push me over the edge. Let’s say I make up to you tonight with dinner.

I’m not feeling up to it stated Mrs. Jones.

That means I have to cancel dinner then. I had already invited the praise team over and told them I was treating you to a cooked meal.

    Chapter Three

As Mrs. Jones got ready for her guest to arrive she looked in the mirror and began to practice being happy. She worked on her smile, her posture and her tone of voice. She didn’t want anyone to pickup on the unhappiness of her marriage. She was too embarrassed for anyone to know that her picture perfect marriage was a nightmare.

Pastor Jones cooked T-bone steak, baked potatoes and had made a Mediterranean Salad. Mrs. Jones took out the dinnerware and began to set the table as the guests began to arrive. After about fifteen minutes the whole praise team was there including Mother Hicks who had been a member of the church for 30 years. She was the last of the original choir members of the church.

Mother Hicks was in her sixties, she was a gracious prayer warrior, full of wisdom and very discerning. Not much got past Mother Hicks which is probably why Pastor Jones didn’t care for her much. However, if there was anybody in the church that Mother Hicks loved the most it was Mrs. Jones. When Mother Hicks entered the Jones’s home she grabbed Mrs. Jones kissed her cheek and hugged her tight.

She then whispered in Mrs. Jones ear be strong daughter be strong.

Mrs. Jones wondered if she had let any signs of unhappiness show through her smile. However, she didn’t linger too much on the thought because she did need the hug. Somehow, she felt relieved that someone knew what was going on even if it was unspoken.

Dinner was going fine when all of a sudden Mother Hicks turned to Pastor Jones and asked How do you feel about abuse in the Christian marriage?

Excuse me? asked Pastor Jones in shock.

Mother Hicks calmly responded How do you feel about abuse in the Christian marriage?

    Why do you ask?

How about cake? stated Mrs. Jones in a brave effort to put an end to this strange conversation.

Cake will be fine said Mother Hicks while changing subjects at the unspoken request of Mrs. Jones.

Mrs. Jones excused herself from the table and went into the kitchen to retrieve the caramel cake. While in the kitchen she had a small panic attack as her heart
