Dedicated to Others Who Are Struggling to Survive
This book is dedicated by the survivor to all of the women who are fighting to survive because they aborted their babies. Many of you were coerced into an act that haunts you in your memory and conscious.
It was God’s will that I survived my mother’s attempt to abort me. It is God’s will that you survive your past wrongdoings and become my ally in helping other tormented souls find peace from their guilt and shame. The God I serve loves you and is your friend and will completely heal and make you a happy and successful citizen if you will only trust Him.
May you recognize who the true villain is. May you learn to love the one who gave me physical life, eternal life, and enabled me to live the abundant life. What He has done for me, HE WILL ALSO DO FOR YOU.
Your Servant,

Caution!
Don’t Mistake People’s
Actions for God’s
96405-WILK-layout-low.pdfMany people march and protest against abortion, as well they should. But their attitude toward the women who have had abortions is wrong. One of my favorite scriptures in the Bible states, "By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, [true Christians] if ye have love one another. Many professed church members or pro-lifers quote that verse as follows:
By this shall all men know you are my disciples that you go around straightening everyone out." Many people’s harsh, hateful attitudes are very harmful and offensive. They may mean well, but the harsh attitudes have a tendency to harden people in their beliefs even though they are seeking help and change. Please do not interpret their actions and attitudes as representative of God’s attitude toward you. God hates sin, but He loves the sinner.
Chapter 1
A Dark Secret Revealed
96405-WILK-layout-low.pdfFor the past thirty years, I have lived in denial. I did not want to face the truth.
My mom lay dying in the district hospital in Antioch, California, and was very restless. My wife Louella and I had hurried home in order to gather with other members of our family who were there because of her terminal condition.
As my mother struggled to breathe, I couldn’t keep from noticing how small and frail she had become. She hinted a time or two that she wanted me to leave the hospital room where she lay dying. I couldn’t understand this because my mother and I were very close. Then my wife spoke up and said, Jim, your mother wants you to leave the room.
I was startled and just stared in unbelief.
My thoughts were interrupted by my mother’s weak voice, It will be just a few minutes, Son, and then you can come back in.
I’ll go down to the cafeteria and get a cup of coffee,
I said as I bent over and kissed my mother on the forehead.
I was puzzled as I sipped my coffee and could hardly wait to ask my wife what was so important that my mother did not want me to hear.
My mother… with a deep, dark secret that she doesn’t want me to know until after she dies, were my thoughts. What could it be?
As we started home, I could hardly wait to ask Louella about my mother’s puzzling behavior.
My wife just sat there in total silence for a moment or two and then said, Your mother made me promise that I would not tell you until after she died.
She what?
came my startled reply. Yes, your mother’s exact words were, ‘Don’t tell Jim until after I die. Do you promise?’ She was so earnest and pleading, that I agreed.
I was totally shocked because my mother and I were so close. There had always been a very tight bond between us, which was very unusual and which I never really understood. I had elder brothers and a sister, but my mother seemed to depend on me. Now, what dark secret did my mother want to die with… before she could bring herself to tell me… ? It was troubling indeed.
My wife and I never spoke of the matter again until Mom went home to be with the Lord a few days later.
We were not at the hospital when Mom left us for her heavenly home, but my elder brother Clint, who was also a pastor, was. Louella took the phone call of Mom’s passing and came into our bedroom and said, "Your mom is with the Lord. She asked me to tell you after she died that while she was carrying you, she tried to abort you."
I heard her words, but they were so contrary to the mother I had always known that the words didn’t really penetrate my consciousness. Oh, I understood what my wife said, and the announcement that my mother had attempted to abort me was on my mind, but that was all.
After the funeral, the family was all gathered at my elder brother Joe’s house for dinner. After all the other family members had departed, I approached Joe and his wife Gerry and said, Joe, Mom sent me out of her hospital room and told Louella something that I can hardly believe.
What was that, Jim?
came their inquiry.
That before I was born while she was carrying me, she attempted to abort me,
I continued.
Yes,
affirmed both Joe and Gerry, she told us the same thing.
Joe and Gerry added, She told us as soon as she attempted the act she was so remorseful that she sought out your grandmother Wilkins, confessed what she did, and repented.
I accepted the fact that she had tried to abort me, but it was suppressed deep in the subconsciousness of my mind, because it was so contrary to the woman I had always known.
If you wonder what I thought about the fact that my mother tried to abort me, the answer is, I didn’t. Nothing could replace the thoughts I had of my mother! She was the greatest Christian I ever knew, and nothing could ever mar or penetrate my thoughts of love and respect for her.
The thoughts of this incident lay dormant until I walked into the home of my dad’s eldest sister Maureen, some ten years later. We were there to celebrate her sixty-seventh wedding anniversary.
As I entered her home she burst into tears and greeted me with the shocking words, Jimmy, I never realized how much you looked like your daddy, Vernon, when he was your age.
Those words were shocking enough, because I had never heard that I favored my father before, but her next words floored me!
You know you are a chosen baby, don’t you?
A what?
burst forth my answer.
"Yes, I was the one appointed to take care of your brothers and sister when they expected Vernon to die. I was there for months, and that was all your mother talked about! God was sending her a chosen baby!"
I must have stared in unbelief before someone else interrupted her unbelievable words by hugging me. I looked up to see one of my cousins who was saying, It’s good to see you. It was nice of you to come.
But my thoughts were upon my aunt’s greeting. Later, before I left, I approached my aunt about her troubling words.
She informed me of the attempt Elsie had made in aborting me. "There was a wicked old woman who kept telling Elsie
