    The doors to the school’s entrance burst open and children of all ages and sizes came spilling out like the fizz of a shaken soda. It was the start of summer in Alexandria. The thought of no more school for a while made everyone wild with excitement.

    Nyla found her best friend Mia in the crowd.

    Let’s walk home together, Nyla shouted.

    Great, we can go the back way home, Mia replied.

    The two slowly separated from the chains of kids heading in different directions. They found the path that took them to the subdivision they both lived in. It took them across a couple of farm fields, through a small tree stand and next to a large pond. They stopped many times along the way to examine little treasures of nature that seemed to be left in their path for them to find.

    Nyla focused on the rocks that shined or had pretty designs on them. Mia was looking for creatures that moved, like frogs and bugs. The two would show each other their findings and brag about
