Mary F. Johnson
In 1970, Mary F Johnson became the first certified operating room technician at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital until her retirement in 1985. Ten years prior to that, she worked as a Practical Nurse at Florida A& M Hospital. During that period she and her husband Edward Johnson reared five children who were all active members of St. Mary Primitive Baptist Church in Tallahassee. The focus of this book is on the second oldest child Mildred who died over thirty years ago from respiratory failure brought on by thalassemia. Due to Mrs. Johnson’s love, training and faith in God, Mildred lived 25 years longer than her doctors’ prognosis. This is the story of a mother’s love. Since retiring, Mrs. Johnson has received numerous awards, among them are from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting 40 Year CST Certificate, induction into the NAACP Civil Rights Hall of Fame and face of the MitraClip surgical procedure at TMH.

BIOGRAPHY OF MARY F JOHNSON
I N 1970, MARY F Johnson became the first certified operating room technician at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital until her retirement in 1985. Ten years prior to that, she worked as a practical nurse at Florida A& M Hospital. During that period, she and her husband, Edward Johnson, reared five children who were all active members of St. Mary Primitive Baptist Church in Tallahassee. Because of Mrs. Johnson’s love, training, and faith in God, Mildred lived twenty-five years longer than her doctors’ prognosis. This is the story of a mother’s love.
Since retiring, Mrs. Johnson has received numerous awards, among them are from the National Board of Surgical Technology Surgical Assisting. She has receive a 40 Year CST Certificate, she has been inducted into the NAACP Civil Rights Hall of Fame, and is the Face of the MitraClip Surgical Procedure at Tallahassee Memorial Regional Medical Center.
