Hal Jacobson, author of Squirrel Soup, is a retired dentist and an accomplished sculptor of thirty plus years. His sculptures are displayed at Roslyn Museum, Museum Annex, Firehouse Gallery and L.I. Art League. Gun Addiction is his second book of prose. He is the proud dad of Myra, Marc and Jill and grandfather of Carly and Lindsey

Awake from their underground hibernation

Copernicus is right
Galileo and Einstein are right
Earth circles round the Sun again
More light, sunshine and longer days
Our steps are lighter
We feel we can accomplish so much more
Back in 1791 we said we must protect ourselves
The British army was all around our new country
We needed a militia
With muskets and single shot dueling pistols
How times have changed
In 2008 the Supreme Court ruled
That every person could defend himself
With a multi-shot pistol
If his state approved
Like carrying a lynch mob
Inside the handle of a pistol
Used for self-defense

The weather changes
