    CHAPTER ONE

I guess that I had better start with telling you all about me, which is not much really. I am in my mid-forties, single, I have my own home, no car, im too nervous to learn how to drive one! I do have a job, my own office, hardly any social life, mum and dad live far away, I do not have any real friends, sad I know but true, want to know the reason why? Well I will tell you, I am not much of a looker, spots and scars have left permanent marks, but I am used to it now. My dad and older brother always tell me whatever you have on the outside, it does not really matter, its what you have on the inside that does. I try to tell myself this a lot and try to believe in it to, there are too many pretty women that are pretty not just on the outside but on the inside too and when they see me, especially the ones I work with, they eye me up and down, especially the ones I work with, they laugh at me, others talk to me and invite ne shopping in London or for an after work drink, I know they mean well, but I also know that they are just feeling sorry for me. But I go along with it all, because company in whatever shape or form it takes it is better than nothing. Most nights I go home alone, I do not have any pets, once I get home I do my own thing, and I am in bed by 10. So a boring and sad life I live, but it is my life, yes I cry sometimes with loneliness and frustration, but I am used to it now, and I make the best of what I have, my weekends are spent shopping, cleaning, ironing and washing all of which I have, must be mad huh. Occasionally I am asked to look after my little nephew Jeremy, but I am not asked often only on Birthday’s, Anniversaries or when my mum and dad cant do it. But I enjoy it all the same, and I am afraid to say that if anything ever happened to me, my sister would not miss me. I was not even allowed to be bridesmaid at their wedding in fact the truth be known. I did not even know it had happened until they came back from their honeymoon, that hurt me so much and my dad refused to go when he found out they had gone behind my back, even her parents were unhappy, but it was her special day and I did not want to ruin it, my dad went to the reception after though. I was angry at my brother but we have never been that close anyway. I bet you are fed up and yawning now, okay well good bits are coming up, well some are and some are not good, okay that is the end of sad little me, lets get on.

    CHAPTER TWO

Another hard way of work finally finished, got stuff thrown at me when I went up to main office filled with workers behind their own little desks. I do not like going up there and I try to avoid it, but I do have to eventually and when I do have to I am filled with dread, but I quicken my pace and avoid being tripped up and now a days not so many things that are thrown actually hit me. I am to quick now, and yes I would complain but its only once in a while and when my boss does see it well he makes threats to the workers! I have been at the company the longest and he does tell them that I am better than they are, regarding my work which does not help, the plastic cups are the ones that hurt the most, and when I get back to my office and close the door, I do cry, but then I just look at the paperwork on my desk and suddenly all is forgotten. Sometimes I wait until everyone is gone, and if I can not do that then I go out, like some others do through the back way. I walk home while others rush past me to get a bus or train, but at nights I do decide to stand my office window and watch them, I hear them going down the stairs, past my door, out of the lift, so much noise. I get a few bangs in the door, but I ignore them, then I put away my things, turn off the phone, computer and main light, then I sit behind my desk once more, and wait for a familiar voice to say they are gone Miss Jane. That voice belongs to Bill, the old security guard who has been here longer than I have, and he I might add as another one that stands up for me, and he is also a supervisor, and he respects all and gets it back. I wait until he is gone upstairs then I leave and make my way out of the building, and I look behind and wave at bill to say thank you, he looks at me, waves and then smiles. Then I turn away and walk home, it begins to rain so I reach into my handbag for my umbrella, I open it up and continue my walk; the rain is heavy now, as I stand on the pavement waiting to cross the road opposite my home. I check both ways and see and then step out… I miss the step. Twist my ankle and fall into the road, I hear a car beep and speed past me like I wasn’t even there. I sit on the edge of the kerb, I notice my ankle beginning to swell up, the pain is bad but I know I have to get home. I get up. I reach for a near post, then using all my strength I hop across the road, people see me, but ignore me like once again I didn’t exist. I lean on my wall, then against my gate for support. I must make it inside I thought. I hop further on until I drop onto my doorstep, then I fumble for my keys in my handbag, and stretch up to open my door. I fall into the hallway then I crawl and use my unhurt foot to shut the door. Then I reach up using my hall table for support and lock the door, I cry with pain;tears strolling down my face. I remove my wet coat and my pair of shoes. I get up hop into the kitchen, I fall again and everything goes dark and that is when the terrible thing happens. All of a sudden a strange and very loud animal noise brings me out of the darkness, but instead of looking up and seeing the white paint of my kitchen ceiling, I see clouds, tall trees blowing in the wind, that I now feel hitting me in the face. I sit up and then I realise that I am not in my kitchen nor am I at home, I sit up more so my back Is straight, there is solid ground beneath me, wet and cold. I hear twigs being broken, someone or something is coming and knowing my luck it will be a something. I shuffle along on my bottom and hide behind the nearest tree, then I hear a snarling, growling noise, then I hear a sniffing sound like the sound of a dog when is he sniffing around. I am tempted to peep and see what it is, and I am trying to understand why I am getting the feeling that what is making that noise, is not a dog, it snarls and growls and seems to be getting closer. I close my eyes and say in my head Please leave me alone then it growls loudly and everything goes silent, again I look slowly around the tree, there is nothing… then I look down at my ankle and foot, there is no swelling and there is no pain, placing my back up against the tree, I use it to help me stand up. I put both feet on the ground- still no pain. So I take a few steps forward… nothing. I appear to be cured somehow, it is a place that I have never been or seen before.(I read a lot) The animal sounds that I have been hearing are unfamiliar, at first I thought I was in dinosaur land but I am not I can’t be, well for one the ground that I have seen so far shows no signs of Dinosaur prints, plus all the trees are tall and strong I take a few steps forward once again and as I do there is a sudden feeling that I am being watched telling myself to remain calm closing my eyes and in a low voice almost like a whisper I say go away well it worked before with that other thing I keep walking slowly all of the time looking left then right up and then down behind in front, this place where ever it is seems strange as I walk I listen sometimes stopping making sure of the sounds both old or new if I hear any sounds or become weary I will hide behind another tree this happens many times now as I am walking the feeling of being watched is joined by a feeling of fear that I am being followed by something that seems to be very close to me stopping I close my eyes and say what I said before walking on the wind suddenly changes blowing leaves down and out of the trees beside me or is it the something that as been watching me following me walking faster I hide behind yet another tree right opposite the one that is still losing its leaves my breathing becomes hard and fast those animal sounds I heard earlier have returned hugging myself in the hope it will stop the fear growing inside of me I do not want to be here any more I say in a low whisper please whoever has bought me here, please take me back home I am filled with fear now in the knowledge that if I move whatever is over in that other tree will try and hurt me and to my horror it may just succeed.

    CHAPTER THREE

I hear the sounds of trees being moved all around me, like a strong wind is blowing through them but it is not the wind that is making those sounds which is what I was hoping for, the noises belong to the some thing that as been watching me and following me looking up there is a noise above me then I see it, a creature that I have never seen the likes of before crawling down the trunk of the tree towards me then I begin to realize that hiding behind a tree was not a good idea after all so I look around and see rocks I run and hide behind the biggest one then I see a hole in a rocky surface that looks like it belongs to a mountain I head for it turn and look behind me feeling the hard surface against my back I move along until my hand finds the hole its small enough for me to get into turning over onto my belly was hard to do but I do it then I watch as branch like fingers with claws reach into the hole and try to grab me but I move back as far as I can go the fingers reach in further so I fumble around in the surrounding darkness there are rocks and small stones in here I can feel them finding a large rock I use it to hit the fingers of whatever is trying to grab me the fingers go but I know that I cannot stay in here forever and whenever I do climb out they will be there waiting for me there must be another way I can get away from them I feel all around me but there are no more holes using my legs and feet I feel behind me there is nothing, I am trapped in here. Closing my eyes I rest for a while outside there is snarling noises movement across the entrance of my hiding place fingers reach in again and each time they do I lash out with the rocks it hurts them because after each hit they make these high pitched whaling sounds what to do now is proving hard to think of, moving around in here is hard and soon my body will become stiff and sore staying in here is something I cannot do, well it looks like death may be coming to me here where ever here is. Crawling forwards I look outside they are no longer on the ground but I can still see and hear them up in the trees taking a deep breath in and out crawling I fall onto the ground I get to my feet quickly and reach into the hole grabbing all the rocks and stones that I had piled up sweeping them closer I collect as many has I can hold and stand ready for one of these creatures to try and come near me then one of them crawls really fast down the tree that is right in front of me once on the ground it stands up how would I describe them? Scary very scary, they are the same colour as tree bark, they even have leaves in places their faces are tree like but a little human too well its what I think, throwing my rocks at the creature it turns and runs up the tree again, then from another tree one more creature appears but before it gets any closer I take aim and throw rocks at it falling heavily it makes a noise like a tree falling then I witness a terrible sight one that I will not forget in a hurry.

    CHAPTER FOUR

Backing up against the hard rock surface that is behind me I watch has more and more tree creatures come down from each tree that surrounds me, they do not seem interested in me, they all gather around the one that is lying still on the grass they push and poke at it trying to see if it is still alive some of them turn to look at me so I reach behind me and grab some more stones from the hole then bending down I pick up bigger ones that
