About this ebook

From the eyes and ears of a former police dispatcher is a collection of stories that are so shocking, it is hard to believe that they could be true. But they must be true. Because there is no way that incidents such as those described could possibly be made up by anyones imagination. Anita Gunn exposes the corruption, the dirty tricks, and the just plain nastiness of those who abuse the power entrusted to them. But somehow, she manages to maintain her courage while she is fighting against the Broken Badge.

    Dedication

This book is gratefully dedicated to all those who wear their badges with honor and integrity. I salute you and thank you for your service.

And to Lindsy, the idealistic young girl who dreams of a career in law enforcement ~ you may want to reconsider.

    A Word From The Author

Obviously I’m writing this under an assumed name. There will be no interviews, as there is always the threat of retaliation. These stories, while they may sound unbelievable, are all true. In all of these, I have had some sort of personal involvement. While I had many good experiences working in police work, and worked with many good officers, there were those who should never have been there, should never have held a position of trust, and should not have gotten away with what they got away with. They are the weak links in the thin blue line, and they put the stink on those who wear the uniform with pride. This book is not intended to be a slam on the good cops. It is merely exposing the bad. I would ask the reader to keep that thought uppermost in their mind, to support law enforcement as a whole, while we try to repair The Broken Badge.

    Editor’s Note

Having spent many years myself in police work, I have to say that this is a book that I wish never had to be written. But unfortunately, there are cops who wear tainted badges, whose bad behavior ultimately gains bad reputations for all police officers, not just those with bad histories. Sadly, despite that there are those who are known as the hotheads or the troublemakers, there is that sense of misguided loyalty that is still prevalent in some police agencies; the idea that they must protect brother officers, even when they know that they are dirty. This book in no way is meant to imply that this is a problem that is widespread in any police agency; rather, it is meant to expose the problem in places where it does exist, and to wipe it out of existence. In any career, there are good and bad. Unfortunately, cops are more in the public eye. And when a cop goes bad, it makes headlines, which only makes a difficult job much more difficult. I fully support law enforcement. My wish is that those entrusted with the job to be responsible with enforcing the law in their own midst.

    Foreword

I was raised to have the utmost respect for law enforcement. So much so that I created my superhero Cat-Boy, with the intention that Team-Cat, as an extra branch in police work, would give our brothers in blue an extra hand. Of course, no one really gets hurt in the Cat-Boy series; my version of police work is more just good old cop-ping fun.

From a very young age, I was aware of corruption in the police force through television and movies, but I used to think it was all fictional; I knew that all police officers were heroes whose purpose is to help people. While that’s true of most police officers today, the BROKEN BADGE is a real eye opener to show just how dangerous that very real corruption has become.

THE BROKEN BADGE is a shocking book of the true stories told from the perspective of a retired police dispatcher who witnessed it all first hand. If you don’t want to fall down then you’d better be sitting when you read these stories. But be warned, once you read this book and see what goes unpunished and what kind of people are allowed to protect us in false uniforms, you will never again feel totally secure about dialing 9-1-1.

Thank God for most of our police officers. 99% of them are the real deal, who take their duty seriously, who want to do their jobs and do it well. They understand their purpose in keeping our cities safe. Unfortunately, they also have to share the uniform with those who slipped through the cracks, who think the title of cop itself makes them untouchable in the eyes of the law. Sadly, because such abuse of power goes unpunished, their behavior is allowed to run rampant. This book is intended to expose some of it. The skeletons that were covered up and buried long ago are being excavated and examined. Despicable crimes committed by horrible people, some of whom are still patrolling the streets to this day, backed up by corrupt prosecutors who refuse to do their duty by prosecuting those who wear dirty uniforms and broken badges.

The incidents you read in this book will stay with you forever, but they are things you should know, things you need to know, the reasons to remain ever vigilant to prevent such a breach of trust. Just don’t read it before bed, or it will keep you up all night.
