About this ebook
Helmut Heckscher
Helmut Heckscher was born in Hamburg, Germany to an assimilated, upper middle class Jewish family. His childhood coincided with Hitler’s rise to power. Helmut escaped Germany through the Kindertransport, a rescue effort that allowed about 10,000 Jewish children to leave Nazi occupied areas without their parents. Transplanted to the US, Helmut joined the Army and served after World War II in Asia. He married Bridget Heckscher (nee Tancock) and was the father of David, Zahara, and Rachel. www.HelmutHeckscher.wordpress.com
