If a poem, or any other work of art
Has to be explained,
It has lost its voice.
Read On and Listen!
PRELUDE
My God
By whatever name you wish to be called
My God
Forgive me for calling you
My God
As if you are not
Someone else’s God
But I have no other words
So, my God
Please help me confess to what I need to confess to
Please help me acknowledge all the ways in which I need help
Doing is only a glimmer of what you wish of me
For all I have been through
Do I even have the faintest clue
Of who YOU are
As opposed to ME
I worship you
I acknowledge you
As the source of everything
But
make yourself
as opposed to myself
real
I know you in my dreams
be real to me now

RIVER 1
I live next to the Willimantic River
It goes by whether I notice or not
It has been doing so for the last few tens of thousands of years
I’ve only been here for two
It got hot today
Hot enough to need some cool water
To calm me
