Dr. Jennings is Founder of A.C.T., Inc. – Adults Caring for Teens, a non-profit organization based in New York. She founded the organization to provide quality mentoring programs for at-risk youth. Dr. Jennings designs mentoring programs for government agencies, corporations, learning institutions, and community/faith based organizations. Dr. Jennings earned a Bachelor Degree in Business Management and Economics, a Masters Degree in Social Policy, and a Doctorate Degree in Law and Policy from Northeastern University, in Boston Mass. Dr. Penny has received numerous awards for her work in mentoring. Most notably she received a proclamation from the New York State Senate, and was named “New York State Woman of Distinction”.

    I am pleased that you have taken the first step toward changing your destiny. You are destined for success. You can, and will succeed at everything!

    Through the use of this journal, I will mentor you and help you to change your life. Together, we will make it happen.

    My beliefs and understanding of the benefits of mentoring are grounded in my own life experiences. You see, my life has been full of challenges. The greatest challenge came forty-one days after my fifteenth birthday.

    That day, December 3rd, I came home from visiting a friend to learn that my mom, who was completely fine when I went out, had died. It was unexpected, as she was not sick, and it was devastating, as my sisters and I were completely unprepared for anything so life shattering. However, I found a mentor and she made a difference. The fact is, MENTORS MATTER!

    The need for a mentor transcends race, class, gender, and age. Everyone needs a mentor. As we find ourselves working more, studying more, tweeting more, blogging more, and texting more, we neglect to take time to focus on the things that are necessary to equip us to fulfill our dreams and be the best we can be.
