About this ebook

In January of 2012 there were over 217,000 men and women locked up in Federal Prisons throughout the United States, along with another two million people behind bars in cities and county jails.

By far, the US incarcerates more of its citizens than any other country in the world, including China and Russia, as well as England, Germany and Japan combined.

Using poetic verse, this book tells a story about the feelings and emotions that many of the men and women in American prisons experience. It also describes a universal attitude they all share concerning the American Justice System, and those that enforce and control it.

Feelings from Within - CR Simon

    Arriving

All the leaves have fallen down,

now the snow is here, it’s on the ground.

But as I look around, all I see

are barren walls, and men like me.

Wire and fences are far and near,

to keep what’s bad, locked up in here.

And although the stars shine bright at night,

within these walls there is no light.

While some around me joke and play,

my thoughts and heart stay far away.

    Faces

Just look around, and you will see,

the faces of men that used to be.

Faces that stare in sad regret,

    for justice served, without respect.

Faces with eyes, that once shined bright,

    now show eyes without delight.

Faces all wrinkled from hurt and pain,

by a legal system that has no shame.

I see these faces every day,

all like me in here, they stay.

We faced injustice within our land,

by government forces too large and grand.

To no avail our fight we fought

and justice failed, so it’s not our fault.

    Justice

Some say our system is unfair,

    others say it’s not.

But if you’ve never seen each side,

you can’t really say a lot.

    When the other side disagrees

    that justice plays unfair,

it will wield its mighty fist at you,

then you’ve got lots to fear.

There is some fault in either view,

and some think it is a lot,

but those that favor the other side,

know the other side will not.

    Self Surrender

Ilooked out between the bars today,

to see the sun shine bright.

It made me think of my other life,

    when everything seemed right.

The leaves were falling when I arrived,

    to enter this new home.

I kissed my wife goodbye that day,

    and then really felt alone.

I found the guards cold and mean,

    hardened by
