    Chapter 1

G ood morning Rosebay, It’s going to be a hot one today, so get your sun block on and head down to the fair in town. Faith Heart rolled over and turned her alarm clock off. She brushed her long spiral curls from her face and stared at the ceiling Ugh, she moaned. I hope this day is better than the last.

Faith was twenty three years old, single and still lived with her parents. About eight months ago she returned home from college with a degree in writing and her parents welcomed her home with open arms, suggesting she live with them until she had enough money, was debt free, and live life without any worries.

Who were they kidding, as she always thought to herself, a life without debt was no life at all. Still, she was happy to live at home and for now she would not change that for the world.

Faith worked for the local paper writing columns that would appear every Thursday in the entertainment section. She also worked part time at Bud’s, the local bar. It was tedious work and the pay sucked, however the tips were great and paid the few bills she had as a resolute of living with mommy and daddy.

She never really complained though as a job was a job, and she did intend to find something better, but for now, it was all she needed.

As Faith pulled the covers off her and continued to get out of bed her sister Hope burst through the door.

Morning Faith, are you up yet?

Faith’s head fell back on her pillow.

I’m up, Faith said yawning as Hope bounced vigorously beside her.

Good, mommy says hurry up we are going soon. I’m so excited Faith, this is my very first fair. Hope continued, as she climbed on the bed. I can’t wait for the rides and the games, the cotton candy and those candy apples you like so much.

Yes bug, I know, Faith said.

Bug was the nick name Faith gave Hope when Hope was about three years old for the simple fact that she enjoyed playing with bugs.

Hope was now eight and turning into a girly girl, bugs were not her thing anymore and in fact she would tell people she hated bugs, but every once in awhile you would see her trying to catch lady bugs or chasing butterflies through the tall grass.

Hope was so bubbly and full of energy, Faith always said if she could have just an ounce of Hope’s energy she’d be able to get through a day.

She continued staring at the ceiling as Hope rambled on and on about the fair. Finally she paused to take a breath and Faith climbed out of bed, heading for the bathroom. Hope flopped herself on Faith’s bed and started talking about the fair again, her voice seemed to grow louder as it trailed behind Faith. She shut herself in the bathroom and quickly jumped in the shower. Twenty minutes later Faith entered her bedroom to find Hope sitting on her bed staring at her with a come on let’s go look on her face.

I know bug, I’m hurrying. I’m almost ready; I just need to find my cross.

Faith always wore a blue jeweled cross around her neck, although she wasn’t overly religious, she just felt comfort with it being close to her heart.

Hope found it on the bedside table and handed it to Faith

    Thanks bug.

Now can we go? Hope asked climbing off Faith’s bed.

Yes, Faith said struggling to get the necklace on. Tell mom and dad I will be down in five minutes.

Okay, Hope said skipping happily down the hall.

She finally got her necklace done up and put some lip gloss on, found her purse and headed to the kitchen to grab a couple bottles of water and an apple to eat on the way.

Everyone was waiting in the car when Faith stepped outside into the heat of the morning sun, she pulled her sunglasses out of her purse, slid them on and got into the car.

A few seconds later she received a text from Izzy.

    Are you on your way?

Izzy was Faith’s best friend. She knew everything about Faith and vice versa. The two met in high school and have been inseparable ever since. After high school they ventured off to different collage’s keeping close contact with each other and after graduating they both moved back to Rosebay with degree’s under their belts.

Izzy returned with a business degree and planned to open her own shop one day. She always told Faith when she turned thirty she would think about settling down and open a little antique shop in town but for now, since she got school out of the way, it was time for her to live life, have no worries and to fulfill some of the things she always dreamed of doing.

Faith always admired Izzy’s way of thinking and wished she could be as fearless to try anything that came her way, but like always Faith steered around life and never ventured out of her comfort zone.

Faith sent Izzy a text back,

    Be there in ten!

Was that Izzy? Mrs. Heart asked.

Yes it was. She is meeting us at the entrance.

Mr. Heart pulled into the parking lot and Izzy waved as they drove by. Hope jumped out of the car as it came to a stop in a stall and ran as fast as she could towards Izzy.

Hope please be careful. Mrs. Heart yelled after her.

I will mom. Hope entered through the gate and her jaw dropped as she stopped dead in her tracks looking around in amazement.

This is amazing. Hope began bouncing around Mommy, mommy can I get my face painted?

    Yes in a few minutes.

We can take her, Faith happily offered.

That would be great Faith, thanks.

    Let’s go bug.

    Yay, Hope yelled with excitement.

We will be over at the picnic table’s, Mrs Heart explained as they walked away.

Sounds good mom we will see you shortly

Hope had taken off already dodging the groups of people in her way.

Hey Bug you need to slow down and wait for us, Faith yelled as she hurried to catch up.

Hurry up then your too slow.

When they reached the booth, Hope was already standing in line. Faith and Izzy sat down on the bench next to the booth and waited.

Look at us Izz, we are so boring.

    Why do you say that?

We should be somewhere else living it up, having the time of our lives. Isn’t that what you always tell me.

    "Well yeah Faith but—

But instead we are at the fair, Faith proclaimed.

Nothing wrong with being at the fair Faith, it kind of reminds me of when I was a kid, all the smells are still the same. Izzy took a deep breath in as a group of guy’s walked by. Faith couldn’t help but stare as they walked by and one of them caught her eye. Her heart fluttered a bit as he smiled at her. She smiled back and turned away before he noticed the redness in her face.

A couple minutes later She looked back up and noticed him standing by the candy apple booth staring at her. She started to feel her nerves set in and began to get a little shaky.

Faith stood up and saw Hope sitting in the chair looking through a book of pictures.

Hey Izz I’m going to help Hope pick something out of the picture book

Sounds good, I’m going to run and grab a soda, would you like anything?

    No thanks Izz, maybe later.

Faith walked up behind Hope and peered over her shoulder at the pictures.

Hey bug, what are you thinking you might pick?

I don’t know, it’s between a butterfly or a flower, Hope said studying the two pictures.

Well I like the butterfly, it does have a lot of the color’s you like. You should get that one

I think I like that one too.

She passed the book back to the lady.

I would like this one please, Hope said with excitement. Oh and Faith do you think I could have some cotton candy? as Hope smiled at her and gave her the puppy dog eyes.

    Sure, I’ll be right back.

As Faith stood in line she felt a tap on her shoulder and turned to see the cute tall guy that smiled at her earlier. He was handsome with dark hair, beautiful blue eyes and a smile that made her heart melt.

    Faith

Yeah, how did you know? She asked confused.

I asked your friend Izzy over there. My name is James Carter.

That would be like Izzy to find the group of hot guys and begin a conversation with them, she thought to herself.

    Hi, Faith muttered.

James extended his hand out for her to shake.

I was wondering, I’m having a little get together at my house tonight and I was thinking maybe you and your friend wanted to join us.

Umm—, again Faith had no clear response.

Izzy said I should talk to you first.

Faith stared at him unable to speak cursing Izzy in her head for making the cute guy come talk to her.

Don’t worry we are not serial killers or anything like that.

Faith snapped out of her trance, Oh good, that makes me feel a little better.

I’m serious, we are just going to have a few drinks and possibly sit by a fire tonight.

    A fire?

James giggled, I’m not approaching this that well am’I.

Faith giggled back, Your doing fine, I’m just teasing you.

Good, that makes me feel a little better as well.

I’ll check with Izzy, but it does sound like fun"

Good, well I hope I didn’t scare you to badly Faith.

Not at all, serial killers and a fire just a regular Tuesday for us, Faith said as she continued to giggle nervously.

    Now your definitely teasing me.

    Yes, Faith laughed.

You have a beautiful laugh Faith.

    Thank you James.

Here’s my card, there is directions on the back and my cell number is on the bottom, just in case you decide to come He then winked at her as he handed her his card. She was about to turn back around when he pulled a candy apple from his pocket. Here this is for you.

Thanks, a poisoned apple will go good with our Tuesday theme,

Your funny Faith, glad to hear somebody still has a sense of humor in this town. Well I should get going, I hope to see you tonight.

    Okay, Well thank you.

James smiled at her as he turned and walked towards his friends. Her body began to tingle and a warm feeling rushed through her as she watched James walk away, she shook it off, grabbed a bag of cotton candy and hurried back to Hope.

Izzy was sitting with Hope when she got back.

Wow Faith, I didn’t know cotton candy made you so happy, Izzy said with a smile.

Faith handed the bag to Hope. It doesn’t Izzy, but this does, and she handed James’s card over to her.

James Carter. Izzy read as she flipped his card around to read the directions, What’s this all about? you never take guys numbers never mind their addresses.

I know Izz, but he seemed so sweet, I never even thought twice about it. Oh and thanks by the way.

    For what?

For sending the hottie my way.

    Izzy laughed, He told you?

    Yeah he did.

Well I noticed the way you where eyeing him up, so I sent him over.

    I wasn’t eyeing him up.

Oh Faith please, you were so.

No I wasn’t, Faith explained, But he sure is adorable. He has these perfect blue eyes, his smile is to die for and his—

Okay, Izzy interrupted, I get it, he’s hot.

I need to see him again, Faith turned to Izzy. Would you come with me tonight, please?

Izzy giggled, Sure Faith I’ll go with you. Just seeing how ridiculous you look right now with that stupid grin on your face, I can’t wait to see your goofy ass tonight.

Ha, ha Izz. Faith snatched the card back and stuffed it in her purse.

Wow Hope your face looks amazing, Izzy said as Hope ran up beside them shoving cotton candy in her mouth.

Faith grabbed her camera. Let me get a picture bug, say cheese

Hope let out a big cheese and smiled from ear to ear Now can we go play some games Faith?

    Sure, I guess we can.

Hope, being the typical eight year old had to play every game and after what seemed like an eternity, she finally left the games area with two stuffed dogs and a rubber snake.

Faith, let’s ride some rides now.

I think we should find mom and dad, eat and rest for a bit Hope.

But I just ate a whole bag of cotton candy, I’m full.

Okay let me rephrase that, let’s go get something a little healthier then candy. Faith looked at her with a straight face and Hope sighed as she headed down the path.

They found their parents sitting at a picnic table already setting lunch out for all them.

Hello, Mr. Heart said handing them sandwiches. Wow Hope your face looks really nice.

Thanks daddy, she said throwing her stuff dogs and rubber snake on the table. And I won all these too

Good job honey, Mrs. Heart said taking them off the table and tossing them underneath. I’m glad you had fun

I did mommy, but I haven’t gone on any rides yet and I really, really want to

Well you better eat first before we decide anything right now.

Okay, and she shoved her sandwich in her mouth.

Slow down bug, you’re going to get a stomach ache before you even get to a ride. Faith said shaking her head.

As Faith unwrapped her sandwich and took a bite she noticed James sitting a few table’s away. His eyes locked on her’s and they stared at each other until Izzy snapped her fingers in Faith’s face.

Earth to Faith she jumped and glared at Izzy. Sorry did I wake you? My god I think you stopped breathing for awhile."

    I think I did too

She looked back at James and he smiled so sweetly at her. She then turned away and finished her lunch as fast as she could.

Slow down Faith, your going to get a stomach ache as well, Hope said with a guilty smile. Isn’t that what you told me?

    Yeah your right bug.

Faith wrapped up her garbage and headed to the washrooms. She then walked out a few minutes later and met Izzy on the path towards the rides.

Your mom took Hope on the rides. Did you want to hit some rides or just take a walk around?

Let’s hit the rides Izz. I haven’t been on a ride for ages.

    Okay, let’s go than.

Faith walked slowly in a daze daydreaming about James, she just couldn’t shake that boy off her mind, no matter how hard she tried.

Faith! What’s up with you girl? Izzy asked breaking Faith from her thoughts of James Carter.

I don’t know Izz, why can’t I get this guy out of my mind? there’s just something about him that has me floating on the clouds.

To my knowledge, I’m pretty sure there is a love connection happening here. Izzy stopped and smiled at her. Now stop talking about this guy and let’s get on the roller coaster.

Faith stopped as she approached the coaster and looked up at the giant hunk of metal towering above her. You want me to go on that?

Yeah let’s go Faith, it will be fun, Izzy said as she grabbed Faith’s hand and pulled her to the back of the line.

If you are making me go on this with you then I get to pick the next one.

Fine by me, Izz said, but let’s do this, before you change your mind.

    Chapter 2

T he two finally sat down after being on a few more spin filled rides.

Oh Izz, we shouldn’t of ate before all that, my stomach is in knots.

Mine feels the same way. Maybe you should find James and get him to rub it for you.

    Faith’s eyes began to sparkle.

    I was kidding Faith.

Hey Izz, can I ask you a question?

    Shoot.

Do you believe in love at first sight?

    Of course I do.

Well I’ve never really believed it, but now I’m starting to. I’ve never felt like this before and just minutes after I meet the guy. To be honest it’s really scary.

Welcome to the world of love Faith. It’s scary, powerful and the most beautiful feeling in the world. Take it and run with it. You deserve to as it’s been a long time since I have seen your eyes sparkle this much. You should never let a feeling like that get away.

Thanks Izzy you always know what to say.

Well Faith I only speak the truth and the way it appears to me and it appears my friend is falling for a guy she only met today. So I say go for it and let yourself fall hard cause in my experience that feeling only comes once in a life time.

You remember who your talking to right?

Izzy laughed, Yes I do, but you need to free yourself from that shell you’ve been living in and just go for it. Let yourself love Faith, take a chance for once in your life.

    That’s a scary thought.

"Don’t let it scare you, but do me a favour, don’t take it for granted like I did, you will lose
