To my parents and my dear Tina

    Preface

This book is the fruit of years of study and hard work, through difficult circumstances and horrible atmosphere, suchlike hot, cold, and lack of health. The book that inspired me to draw a historical panorama was The Story of Civilization by Will Durant. Throughout my life, till today, I suffered pain, tiredness, and lack of art sources. Notice that in Iraq—specifically the Kurdish region where I lived—the capabilities to invent or achieve something in art or knowledge was almost impossible.

This historical picture is about 27 meters—88.6 feet in length and 3.2 inches in width. It takes about one year of daily work. But I’m lucky; I reached the United States, and I get a chance to publish my work.

I hope, also, that the book will make people give more respect for handicaps, disabled people, and those with special needs since I suffer with a disability throughout my entire life. I want to show the whole world that disabled people are not an exception through the ingenuity process in art, education, music, and all other kinds of human talents. In modern history, we have good examples of that, suchlike Stephen Hawking, the famous scientist and the famous culture minister in Egypt in 1970s; Taha Husein, who was blind but was a real researcher, author, and a pro-liberal thinking in a Muslim world. Maybe this book seems very simple in progressed societies! But as a background, this is a giant effort because the book is a result of a different environment, society, and unopened culture.

For example, some people called me infidel just because I drew human beings and living creatures, and that, for Sunni Muslims specifically, is kind of challenging God as creator.
