More than anything, Captain Sweedy longed for the day when the ‘Float-n-Star’ would be his own.

De Valor creates an unusual yet inspirational cast of characters who inhabit a fishing boat called the Float-n-Star. It begins with Captain Sweedy, an old man with bad hips and eyes, who rescues a critically injured puppy and pelican. He gives them a name and a home on his boat so as to keep him company while out at sea. Despite the characters’ physical handicaps, they are cheerful, curious, and ready to brave any hardships that come their way. They call themselves the I-Can-Crew as a tribute to their love of life and strong instinct to survive.

These children’s stories are classic, heart-warming tales of faith, bravery, and adventure in the midst of adversity. Sea Worthy, a three-legged and one-eyed puppy, is curious to a fault. He has a penchant for getting into mischief. Sam, a one-legged pelican, is the more cautious of the two. He tries to reason with Sea Worthy, but is often challenged by his friend. They repeatedly encounter Blue Beard on their travels, a cruel and selfish pirate who kidnaps children, bullies innocent sea-faring people, and desperately seeks to destroy the I-Can-Crew. Sea Worthy and Sam are put into nearly impossible situations where their perseverance and quick thinking need prevail.

The Pirate Adventures of Sea Worthy offers an important lesson to young children through the characters of Sea Worthy and his companion Sam–to never give up in the face of hardships. These motivational tales will appeal to children of all ages.
