About this ebook

This book is the result of the urgings of fellow Morgan State University Alumni to write an account of the life of my spouse, Carl Oliver Clark. Since he was the first in several areas to accomplish success and open the way for others to follow, it seemed appropriate to record these experiences for his children, his family members, and his friends to know and remember his journey.

    FOREWORD

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,

I took the one less traveled by,

And that has made all the difference.

Carl, who has been a close friend and mentor of mine for over thirty-five years, was raised in Baltimore, Maryland, and became the first African American to graduate from poly high school in 1955. By doing this, he helped to integrate and break racial color lines for generations of students that followed him in the Baltimore City Public Schools.
