Dedication
For all the children who haven’t yet learned the meaning of prejudice, this book is in their honor. May they continue to inspire and refresh us by seeking the truth about each other, by listening, and watching. May they also remind us that there was a time when none of us noticed skin color, clothes, or where someone went to church – or if they went at all. And for two very real little girls, Ava and Salomé, who added much richness and joy to my own life and without whom this book would not have happened, keep giggling, girls!
