FOREWORD
The Sweat Off My Back is a collection of my experiences, thoughts and feelings as I faced a multitude of situations. These trying experiences have universally formed and chiseled my attitudes, beliefs, and values. They have made me who I am today, good, bad or indifferent; they are my proverbial sweat.
With that said, sweat or perspiration usually happens during extreme physical or mental challenges. It is our body’s way of combating rising temperature or heat.
Consequently, these poems, essays, and inspirational pieces also represent and can be used as sort of an analogy describing how as we overcome our situations or trials, we are simply able to let them roll off of our backs, like sweat. Eventually the sweat, part water, part dirt, separates and leaves us with a residual compound that is added to our body’s makeup. Simply put, this book is my gift of expression to each reader that describes the hard-work, heart-ache, and pain that it took to get me where I am today. This collection or collect in the sense of a short prayer made up of an invocation, petition, and conclusion translates into the three parts of this book, Past (Solidarity), Present (Sensuality), and Future (Success).
