    AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF THE EDDINGS-WARE FAMILY

    AS TOLD AND REMEMBERED BY

OUR FATHERS, MOTHERS, UNCLES, AND GRANDPARENTS

    Volume I

This book is about the family as seen by close relatives. These incidents that will be mentioned are presented as remembered by my aunt Georgia, Uncle Gentry, my dad, Jim H. Sr., and Patsy, Uncle Buck, Uncle Ola, and Uncle AC. God blessed our family. He has enabled us to survive through many hostile and dangerous situations.

One of the words of the family has been that we were on our way to somewhere. We should know where we are going and how we will get there. I will talk about a few of the situations in our forefathers and foremothers’ lives that have showed us that God has blessed and kept us for a certain purpose. My immediate family will be mentioned. We accept the fact that we are on a journey. Each of us knows that things, situations, and events are not staying stagnant. So we will consider the past, present, and future for this generation. We will focus on the three questions of going. On this journey, first consider where we are today, what kind of preparation are we making in order to be ready for the changes in our future? What will our future look like? I hope that additional family members will give me information to add to this book before publication. It is to be published in time for the holiday gift-giving times of 2010.

First let us consider where each of us is today. Do you have a goal for living, or have you come close to achieving your goal for life? Do you have the physical things that you value most in your life? Are you spiritually at the peak of you existence at this time? You may not have achieved your goal economically and spiritually. Since you are going somewhere, you should know where you are along this road of life. Do you think that you have your goal percentage-wise complete? You should have a clear picture of what you are involved with, which will carry you over into the future and beyond.

Consider your economic or financial situation and the style of life you are now living. Did you decide to be living like you are ten or fifteen years or more ago? You probably thought that you would be in an entirely different financial situation than you are now in. The choices you made caused you to be where you are now. One strong suggestion is that you be ready to meet any situation.

Our fore parents put their trust in God, which brought them through all forms of difficulties. You may think, How can I know what to do? We were left words by our fore parents to trust in the Lord always. James 1:5 lets us know how to get that wisdom that is needed. God will supply all the wisdom we need to know what to do. The church was a rich source of our fore parents’ information.

Our family has come a distance in the last 160-plus years. My grandmother Ebby (we called her Grand Mo) told my other grandmother and us that she was the daughter of ex-slaves. She told of the difficult time they had during the reconstruction days after the Civil War. In my search about our family, stories were made available from my mother, dad, sisters, cousins, uncles, and aunts. I also received valuable information from Paulette Allen. She is a granddaughter from the eldest member of this clan, whose name is Gentry. Her mother was named Willie Eddings Long. Her research was verified with facts from records.

Some of the other stories may not be completely accurate. For instance, the story about our grandfather/great-grandfather Foster Eddings. (Grandmother Eva’s first husband was given the name Foster, and the last name of her second husband was named Foster. So people called her Ms. Foster.) We were told that he was born in
