About this ebook

The angels greatest wish is to assist us in completing the tasks we set for ourselves when we wrote the contracts that guide our lives. Archangel Jophiel tells us that ego-identification is sidetracking us from our life purpose and destroying our planet. Here, in a message of great hope, she reminds us that our only purpose on earth is to love and care for each other, and provides a prescription for healing our lives and our planet through the act of unconditional love.

In Journey from Ego you will learn:

How the trance of living under the influence of the ego results in fear and anxiety, separatism, war and the destruction of our planet.

How the ego-voice manipulates us into believing its voice is that of our own mind.

How living outside of the influence of the ego-mind allows us to remember our life purpose and the reason for our incarnation into this earth-bound life.

To recognize the voice of the ego and to request the assistance of the angels in keeping it at bay

How quieting the voice of the ego allows us to clearly hear the voice of God and Her angels.

How remembering our essence and our holiness will heal our lives and affect the evolution of our earth.

—Helen Schucman, A Course in Miracles

    Preface

I’ve never considered myself a morning person. Going to bed early and waking at dawn always seemed to me like an act of extreme discipline. I’ve never been able to take friends seriously when they insist the hour between 5:00 and 6:00 a.m. is the best one of the day. I’d smile and nod, of course, and think, Have at it.

However, when the information contained in this book began to come to me, I found myself waking spontaneously at 5:30 every morning. I can’t pretend that this experience changed me into a morning person, someone who actually looks forward to waking early, because it didn’t. After six months, when I was told the information was complete, I went right back to my old habits. But I did learn the sweet newness and deep quiet of the early morning, the way it wraps itself around and seems to hold one in a blanket of peace.

When archangel Jophiel came to me the first time, I wasn’t sure that I wasn’t making it up, but as she continued to dictate to me, I became confident that the material that she was giving me was outside my knowledge. I had begun to read A Course in Miracles (California: Foundation for Inner Peace, 1976, 1998), but it was a slow process and my very literal brain was having a difficult time understanding, so I was reading it as an act of faith. That is, I hoped that the more I read, the more I would understand, and if not this time, then maybe next time. I had also read other inspired material which I found fascinating and my exposure was, no doubt, synchronistic in itself as it prepared me enough to not jump to the conclusion that I was having a nervous breakdown or just plain losing my grip on reality.

The first communication I received from her was as follows.

I am Jophiel. I will help you write our book. I will tell you what to write. I will tell you the words. I will give you the ideas. You will only need to listen to me. However, it will be your book, not mine. It will not have my name on the cover.

I had been meditating. I became compelled to pick up a pen and paper and that’s what came out of my pen. There was a lot more, but that was the gist.

I started writing for Jophiel in the mornings, but she said she needed more of my time, that I should start earlier. Hence, the practice of waking at the crack of dawn. About a month into it, Jophiel indicated that I should spend an hour or two more per day writing, so I added a couple of hours in the evening after dinner.

After being told that the book was complete, I spent months fashioning it into a book, sent out fifty query letters to agents and publishing companies, which either were rejected or went unanswered. Eventually, I just gave up on the project. It went into a drawer. That was nearly ten years ago! But I couldn’t forget about it. I felt guilty. It weighed on me. It was a gift I’d been given, and I’d been tasked with sharing it with the world.

Multiple times over the years, I pulled it out and edited and rewrote, but I ended up frustrated with no idea how to organize the material I’d been given or how to actually make this book happen. The information had not come to me in a consecutive order, or in any order at all for that matter. One morning the content was about how the ego tricks us, that evening it was about synchronicity, and the next day was about the connection between ego and creation. I’d thought, at that time, it should be formed into a book meant to be read consecutively from point A to point B. However, that format required me to insert too much of myself—my voice, my opinion, my understanding, my perceptions. The problem was the content of this book hadn’t come from me; rather, it had come through me. It wasn’t my voice; it was Jophiel’s voice.

Also, to be perfectly honest, I worried about what people would think. After all, I’m just an ordinary person with an ordinary job and life. What would my family think? My friends? My clients? Who would believe that I hear angels anyway? I didn’t want people to think I was a crackpot. So I kept it a secret and hid it away and fretted about it.

A year ago, it suddenly, finally occurred to me to ask my angels to guide the process, to assist me in completing this task. I’m a slow learner. A series of synchronous events have brought me to this place. And along with the angelic assistance came a deeper understanding of the material than I’d ever had in the past and the ability to begin to recognize how ego, of all things, was keeping me from following through with the publication of this book.

So now, at long last, here it is. I was chosen to write this book, to be the conduit and the scribe, as well as the vehicle in the earth plane to make it manifest. It has been a long and humbling opportunity. The content is the culmination of eons of intelligent awareness, and it is presented to all of humanity as a way out and a way in: a way out of fear and a way into love. If ego is equal to fear, then God is equal to love.

The journey away from ego leads directly to the unconditional love of God. If we can each learn to trust in that unconditional love, that it will always hold us up and never lead us astray but always set us forward on the path we created for ourselves, but have forgotten, we will no longer have reason to live in fear of any kind.

It is fear—ego—that generates a belief in dualism, separatism, and scarcity and feelings of guilt, shame, anger, sadness, loneliness, hopelessness, inferiority, superiority, insecurity, jealousy and all other negative emotions that undermine our ability to be aware of and to remain in contact with the light of our holiness. It is debilitating and destructive.

Love, on the other hand, obliterates fear. Love is a creative force. It generates connection, acceptance, abundance, joy, confidence, and peace. The choice to live from a perspective of fear or of love can be made in each moment. It is the choice to live life from a perspective of love, to love unconditionally the soul of each human being our lives touch every single day, to intend acceptance and compassion in each of our actions that will release us from the grip of ego.

Unless we are able to live our lives away from ego, our earth will die. Ego identification in the forms of belief in separatism and scarcity, and greed and intolerance, are causing climate change, environmental pollution and destruction, starvation, genocide, and terrorism, as well as the many wars that are currently flaring around the globe.

We must be willing to open our eyes, as well as our minds, to the fact that this earth is a fragile planet. It is a living organism, which in its breath supports our own; in its light and dark cycles, it feeds us and provides for our most basic needs. Without the gentle earth under our feet, where would we plant them?

It is not enough to recycle, reduce, and reuse. It is not enough to use biodegradable soap. It is not enough to support green movements and permaculture and to reduce the use of carbon-based fuels. Yes, these are important, very important, but they are not enough.

None of this even matters until we look at ourselves, our interactions with each other, and the manner in which we influence others. Are we motivated in our responses to others from a perspective of love, or of fear? Do we accept each other, or do we constantly judge? Do we fool ourselves into believing that we are nonjudgmental while we condemn the frustrated mother in the grocery store for yelling at her child or for not teaching him how to behave properly in public? Do we believe that it is wrong for the jail guard to torture the prisoner of war but all right for us to judge him for his conduct? What is the limit of violence? Is slight annoyance different from raging anger?

We must come to an understanding, at this very moment, that we are responsible for the future of the earth and the future of our country. We will leave our children and theirs with a heritage of some kind. I, for one, would prefer that it be one of peace and of an earth, which is able to nurture future generations. How can we expect to achieve peace on a global level if we can’t foster it in our neighborhoods or find it within ourselves? We must be willing to be responsible for the choices that we make. There will be no body but ourselves to blame tomorrow for the choices we make today.

I know that if you have this book in your hands and are reading it you either have some serious concerns about the future of the planet or you are curious. If you are curious, that’s fine. I do hope though that after you have read it you hand it to another person whom you believe might not pick it up on their own, someone whom you believe would think it wholly fictional, or wholly blasphemous, because otherwise, how will they ever be exposed to it?

The voice you will hear in the following pages, including in the introduction, is that of archangel Jophiel, who has guided the entirety of this project. The angels are God’s messengers. They carry messages of love to guide us, protect us, and assist us along the paths we walk as we make our way through our life. What follows is a message of great hope and clarity, a prescription for the health of our planet and for each life she supports.

Throughout the following pages, not only will you find many, many references to God, but you will also find that God has been referred to as She and Her. I will admit that all of my life God was, in my mind, not female but male—until recently. As worked through the material given me, I found the Great and Caring Heavenly Father image I had always carried in my mind give way to a more creative and female presence, which moved from my mind into my heart. Also, in my day-to-day life outside these pages, although many people do, I never refer to God as God but as the universe. I might tell someone, The universe has provided me with the opportunity to … Or The universe has unexpectedly conspired to allow me to have the entire day off. Please note that I’m not offended by other people’s references to God; it’s just always felt a bit too dogmatic to me, yet now here I am writing an entire book about finding our way back to God. The point is that it doesn’t matter which name we each use to refer to the mystery, as long as we know and are clear that there is One.

One last thing. You also, from time to time, will no doubt hear a scolding tone from archangel Jophiel. I had to ask her about this, because I wondered why, if there is no judgment where there is love, she would appear to be judgmental. That is, how should I explain this to my readers? She answered,

You should say that, yes, I do scold from time to time, but not from a sense of judgment; it is due to concern. There is a difference. If you have a concern regarding the manner in which a child behaves, you tell them, and the tone of your voice conveys the depth of your concern.

I believe parents get very confused about this issue of judgment and shame, fearing that scolding or disciplining a child is a form of shaming them, judging them, when this is not the case at all. Being judgmental does not facilitate the growth of another. It presupposes that the other should be different from who he is. A child is still learning, as is the human race. It is necessary to point out the mistakes that are being made, whether as a child or as a human. Otherwise, how is one able to take responsibility?

A parent should never assume that a child knows how to behave when he is observed to be misbehaving. He should be reminded of the proper manner in which to behave. Tone of voice can be either supportive or judgmental. When a parent is most fearful for the child’s well-being, it is likely that the tone of voice used will be more strident, but that does not presuppose judgment. It is the intent that defines the motivation."

    Introduction

Who among you will have the ability to hear the information contained herein? Who among you will have the ability to act upon the information provided you? It is not a difficult task, although many of you will not even try, despite the fact that your future and the future of your planet depend on it.

Many of you on the earth are far enough removed from the essence of yourself that you are unable to see the holiness in yourself or anyone else. You have forgotten your source and your purpose. You have forgotten the very reason for your presence on earth. Here I provide you with the process for remembering yourself—your reason for being present in the life you have chosen and the rationale for your presence on earth.

The process of remembering yourself begins with learning to recognize the voice of your ego and
