    1 Coincidence

    Candy Fole? Candy? CANDY!

Mr. Bandera’s yelling snapped me out of my daydreaming. Instinctively, I thrust my hand into the air and yelled the first thing on my mind.

BACON! (Yes, I was hungry and thinking about bacon)

    The class burst into laughter.

"Nice one, Dulce." My teacher said absentmindedly, while calling out other names on the attendance sheet.

Hey, Candy? Did you do last night’s homework? asked Blanca, a classmate of mine.

Oh, yeah. Here. I passed the worksheet to her, face still red from my outburst.

This is just your typical Spanish class in Pennsylvania. Papers are being collected, homework and notes being passed around, the sound of cars honking at slowpokes and sleepyheads, and someone hollering about someone’s mother. Yup. This is the life, so hold on tight.

For some reason, my teacher has the habit of taking attendance at the end of the period. Which he is doing now.

Thanks, you’re the best! Blanca said as she handed our papers in. Sure! I chimed back.

Ding. Ding. Ding. Ding. Finally, the last bell for the rest of the summer. See ya, Candy! I hope we’re in the same class next year! Blanca said. Riiiight, like she meant it. Big liar. Me too! I responded to her fake enthusiasm. Finally, the end of the school year.

I made my way through the crowded halls and headed to my silver Nissan Altima. There, leaning next to it, was Isis.

C’mon, Cans! We don’t have all day! Can it, Isis! It’s the end of the year, not the world, so I don’t want to hear your crap! I shouted back.

Although me and Isis are twin sisters, we are very, very different from each other. We are both 16, but… while I have gold, to-my-shoulders cornsilk hair (which I nearly always maintain in a high ponytail), and bangs, she has black, dark hair, straight and flowing, and deep black eyes that are somewhat different when compared to my brown, always-shining eyes. I guess, since our horoscope is Gemini, she has the dark, mysterious personality while I have the cheerful, bubbly personality (except when I’m angry or pissed off) . . . oh, look at me. I’m babbling.

Still, you get my point, right?

I climbed into my car and unlocked the
